HTTPS websites in Directories
-
Hi Everyone,
Whilst trying to submit some client sites to directories we have been struggling to post any of our clients sites that use the HTTPS protocol. When trying to submit they usually come up with an error stating that the website could not be found etc. It doesn't accept it if I remove the HTTPS or replace it with the HTTP version either.
Any ideas, or has anyone else had any issues with this? Couldn't find much information about it online anywhere.
Thanks

Thanks for the responses!
We only submit to decent niche or local directories but have found a few of the smaller directories have this problem.
The site is set to redirect to the https version so it sounds like it is just the directories using the old scripts to validate the URL.
Cheers for the help though, it has cleared it up

A lot of directories, specially those based on old scripts, have issues with the regex which checks if the URL is valid, and forces the address to start with http:// instead of accepting https:// . It is a problem with the directory, and not of your website.
You should make sure you have a redirection from your http to your https version, and then post the http URL to the directory causing that failure. Please make sure website is loading with http via a redirection, and not serving the content directly, or you will have a serious duplication issue.

Hi David,
Am I right in thinking that the sites are configured correctly to point from http to https? If you go into Google and enter the non-https address in, does it forward correctly?
And I couldn't help but notice this word... Directories. Are these niche / local directories? You just have to be a bit careful where you submit is all.
It sounds to me like something in the directory itself that is causing the issues, so ruling out configuration issues at your end, I could be tempted to make contact with them

Selling Paid Directories
Hello Mozzers! Like most, we have greatly reduced the number of paid directories in which we enroll our clients. We do, however, still utilize a few. For those of you still using select paid directories, what approach do you take in marketing these sites to your clients? Thanks in advance for your input!

What tool can be used to provide a list of links on a website that points to other websites?
For example: On a website there are items in the news listing that point to articles about a company that appear on online news sites; items that point to collateral hosted by vendors we use, etc. What tool can be used to provide a list of these links?

Linking strategy between my websites
Dear all, I am quite new in SEO and I am very confused about linking strategy. I have several websites proposing proofreading services in French and I don't know how to link them together so they get the best chance to have a good ranking. What strategy would you suggest ? Thanks a lot for your help, Yafiz

Article submission to multiple directories
We know the general consensus among the crowd here is to avoid free article submission directories. But we have to do this as part of our overall deliverables and have hit a roadblock. A couple of our agencies are insisting that we submit one article to multiple sites - which we contend would trigger duplicate content issue and render all links useless. Any feedback on submitting one article to multiple article sites?

Brand new website, should I nofollow almost all internal links?
Hi, As I am creating a completely new website for my employer (she will have zero incoming links, even the URL will be different), would it be advantageous to allow follows to the other internal pages from the home page, but disallow follows on all other internal links on each subsequent page? So, for example each page will have this many internal links: Home page: 5 (all 5 service pages) Recruiting: 1 (home link) Services: 1 (home link) Talent Assessment: 1 (home link) etc. Does this make sense to bolster the home page until we can get some links coming in?

Is the whoisbusinesslistings.com directory a good place to get a link?
I stumbled across the whoisbusinesslistings.com directory and noticed that it's home page is page rank 4 and in the listing it allows do follow links to your site. They don't have pricing listed on the site though which scares me. Only a link to a sales person. Anyone know how much they charge and if it would be worth looking into? Thanks mozzers! Ron10

Blog Directories
Will links from blog directories to our subfolder-located blog within our website help the ranking of our overall site? Â In other words, will it just help the rankings of the main blog page (where the directory links are pointing to), or will it pass the link juice to the rest of the site? Thanks!

I cannot get any links indexed to this website http://atglimo.com.
I have written nofollow, follow links, issued a press release, and submitted to the Universal Business Listing.  None of these links are showing in the Yahoo index.  I did a nofollow bookmark with delicious and it disappeared the next day.  The people that built the website will not grant FTP access and modded the HTACCESS file incorrectly to point to a WWW. version of the site.  I had them remove the index.html duplicate content problem. What is going on?  Why are no links showing in the index for this site?
