Why would I be ranking for a term when it's not anywhere in my page or pages linking to it?
-
Hi, I have a keyword that's not anywhere in my page in page-grade tool nor are any pages linking to it with that term, why would that be ranking. The term is "dynamic card solution" This is a company we used to have 5 years ago and merged with our company. This term is ranking #1 for this page- http://www.datacard.com/instant-issuance-solutions . I can't figure why that would be even as this is a newer page in the past year.
Thanks for any insight as I'm newer to moz.

Very simple,
Your old site http://www.instantissuance.com uses a 301 redirect which can be seen here
http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/
It then redirects to http://www.datacard.com/instant-issuance-solutions which is the exact page you mentioned above. In tools like Majestic and MOZ you can see that the most common term used in backlinks to the site apart from the domain name is "dynamic card solution".
When you perform a 301 redirect all the positive signals that a site has are passed to its new home. This is a clear indication of that happening.
I hope that makes sense!

Sounds like Google's Semantic Search update called Hummingbird. We are seeing a lot of traffic for keywords that don't appear on our pages. Pretty impressive on the part of Big G.

Hi Laura,
I think your key insight is in the next result in google serp. I can read that datacard acquired DCS and Cardwizard. It seems that you may be beneficiating of the strong relationship of DCS with the query you're highlighting.
Well in fact DCS is exactly the exact match for the query you show, so I think that google finds relevant to show the company that acquired the one leading that space.
Look at their facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dynamic-Card-Solutions-Instant-Issuance/92503396903
I'm not very confident with your market but I definitely understood that datacard is the new DCS and it seems that google understood that too
Welcome to the semantic world that hummingbird just brought!
Hope this helps!

Moz can't see my link from an external site
Hi, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. I've had a followed link created from http://www.dubaisharks.com/ pointing to my website - http://www.yallarugby.com but in the reports it doesn't show that there is a link coming fro this website. The link has been active for a few months now, but still no record of it. Any ideas?

"Too many on page links" phantom penalty? What about big sites?
So I am consistently over the recommended "100 links" rule on our site's pages because of our extensive navigation and plentiful footer links (somewhere around 300 links per page). I know that there is no official penalty for this but rather that it affects the "link juice" of each link on there. I guess my question is more about how places like Zappos and Amazon get away with this? They have WAY over 100 links per page... in fact I think that Zappos footer is 100+ links alone. This overage doesn't seem to affect their domain rankings and authority so why does SEO moz place so much emphasis on this error?

Need to find all pages that link to list of pages/pdf's
I know I can do this in OSE page by page, but is there a way I can do this in a large batch? There are 200+ PDF's that I need to figure out what pages (if any) link to the PDF. I'd rather not do this page by page, but rather copy-paste the entire list of pages I'm looking for. Any tools you know of that can do this?

Find pages containing broken links.
hi everyone, for each internal broken links I need to find all the pages that contain it. In the Seomoz report there is only a refferer link for each broken link, but google webmaster tools indicates that the dead link is present in many pages of the site. there is a way to have these data with SEOmoz or other software, in a csv report ? thanks

"Issue: Duplicate Page Content " in Crawl Diagnostics - but these pages are noindex
Hello guys, our site is nearly perfect - according to SEOmoz campaign overview. But, it shows me 5200 Errors, more then 2500 Pages with Duplicate Content plus more then 2500 Duplicated Page Titles. All these pages are sites to edit profiles. So I set them "noindex, follow" with meta robots. It works pretty good, these pages aren't indexed in the search engines. But why the SEOmoz tools list them as errors? Is there a good reason for it? Or is this just a little bug with the toolset? The URLs which are listet as duplicated are http://www.rimondo.com/horse-edit/?id=1007 (edit the IDs to see more...) http://www.rimondo.com/movie-edit/?id=10653 (edit the IDs to see more...) The crawling picture is still running, so maybe the errors will be gone away in some time...? Kind regards
