Trust Symbols

I have 2 eCommerce sites and question the value of trust symbols such as McAfee & BBB – Would the addition benefit me in rankings or conversions?

It's been about a year since my post and they have changed the page. Now, if you want to see trust symbols you must go to individual sites.
Look near "buy buttons" and in highly visible parts of the page such as upper right.

Sounds good, just hadn't come across it here in the UK.

US only - Better Business Bureau. Most other countries have their local equivalent.
Its definitely worth looking into adding to your site as they are a kind of 'quality local business provider' as each member goes through a good practices check before they are allowed to use the logo and links.

I place significant value in trust symbols. I know for myself they make a difference in my personal online shopping. I have often asked others very specific questions in this regard and the answers have always been positive.
There are many less recognized companies which offer trust symbols. The ones I prefer are:
BBB - non-profit organization which is well recognized in the USA and offers dispute resolution
TRUSTe - non-profit organization offering privacy policy compliance and dispute resolution
Verisign or McAfee - certification of site being malware free and offering additional business verification
In each case, you are mainly paying for the symbol. It is a very easy decision for big businesses to adopt these symbols. Small websites can find the costs quite high.
Also consider the various industry-based trust symbols. For example if you are purchasing a domain it's nice to see the ICANN certified registrar symbol on a site.
Taking the above information and combining it with what EGOL and Arnie shared I would say YES, trust symbols definitely improve conversion rates. They are a factor in distancing your site from your competitors. I would also say I am not aware of any solid evidence which shows trust symbols have any impact at all on rankings. We do know Google desires the best user experience and these symbols clearly add to user comfort level. I believe there is either an unproven ranking factor or will be in the future.

I haven't come across BBB, I guess this is a US thing?

Rand did a great training webinar about branding symbols. He mentioned BBB specifically as a way to increase your value in Google's eyes.
Plus... I seem to remember an awesome youmoz post about a site that went up like a rocket just 18 days after they were BBB accredited. Lots of link juice on that oneSomeone more organized than me can probably find those for you The webinar is still in the Pro zone.

Lots of people believe that adding a trust symbol to your checkout pages or even to your sales pages can lift your conversion rates.
Even the placement of the trust symbol can have an impact on conversions as shown by this study on the SiteTuners website...http://sitetuners.com/case-studies/luggagepoint.html

Requiring customer agree to shipping terms at checkout
I work for an ecommerce company that has many of its shipments go by LTL freight. Our customer service team has issues with a few customers per month that aren't equipped to receive freight shipments which leads to returns and other issues. In an effort to better inform our customers, the customer service team is requesting that we add a checkbox to the checkout that requires customers to agree to our shipping and returns policy, including a link to the policy page. I am wondering how concerned people here would be that requiring the customer to check a box agreeing to those terms would lead to more customers abandoning during the checkout process. Or do you think it's not a concern? Thanks for your thoughts.

Issue for Sales Team & Funnelling Smaller Orders
Hi, Hoping somebody might have some suggestions for funnelling smaller orders and larger orders on different journeys. Basically, 90% of our business comes from 10% of customers with larger orders, like contractors and organisations who fill out leads or call us. But about 90% of the sales teams time is taken up from handling lots of smaller calls, which account for <5% of our revenue. Obviously we still want these smaller orders, but would anyone have any suggestions on moving these customers away from phone calls? We've tried to add as much content to the site as possible to answer they're questions, but they seem to just call anyway. Hope you can help!

Redirect Management on Headless Wordpress w/ React Front End
Hello everyone, As Headless Wordpress becomes more and more popular, it becomes more complicated to manage and track 301 redirects. I'm reaching out for advice on this. Our main issue right now, is that after migrating from Drupal to a Headless Wordpress/React platform we lost the ability to track, manage, and view traffic analytics for users hitting those redirects. This was something we were able to do in Drupal. Example: If we have a redirect in place we could see how many times in the past x number of days that redirect was hit by users attempting to access the old URL. Unfortunately, Yoast Premium, has been helpful with other SEO needs, but this is one that it is not able to manage. Anyone have any ideas, experience, or thoughts on this issue? Thanks for your time

Reducing Negative Impact of Webpage Login Form
Our real estate website (www.metro-manhattan.com) now requires visitors to login in if they want to search our listing database. The result is that. 9 out of 10 visitors leave without searching; they simply refuse to set up an account. I have attached images of the search bar and login form. Is there a way to increase the percentage of visitors that login? We have tried to make it as simple as possible, allowing visitors to login by Facebook, Google or by providing their email address. We do not send any verification email. We are forced to. keep this login unfortunately. But is there anything we can do to reduce the visitor bounce rate? Thanks,

Anything Good or Bad about Google Trusted Stores ?
We are looking to implement Google Trusted Stores. We don't use PPC but we think that the badge on our website will be helpful for us and our customers. Do you have any experience, positive or negative, with Google Trusted Stores as either a merchant or a customer? I am looking for moz member experience before we make a commitment. $2000 for trust badges, is it worth it?
Hi, I just got off the phone with TrustE and McAfee. They want approximately $1400 and $900. Needless to say these are significant amounts. Is it a must for a small business selling luxury goods (transactions above $1000). Thanks
