SEO Certification + SEO Experience = Ideal SEO Consultant ???
-
Since the responsibilities of SEO have increased so much, I think there has to be a kind of basic industry wide Certification / Degree system. Many people may argue that experince is much more important than certification but how about like any other trade or profession; we have (1) SEO Certification PLUS (2) SEO Experience for the Internet Marketers.
One of the reasons, I get so many calls from people that they claim they are SEO experts and they are trying to sell their services to us, but when you talk with them, you can easily tell that they do not have any knowledge about it. But they sell the service to business owners that do not understand SEO. It is very sad to see small business owners believe those people.. and I understand it is business owners responsibility to check the background & portfolio of SEO agency, but wouldn't it be nice to have another credential that they can ask "are you also certified SEO"?
what do you think about "Certified SEO" or "Certified Internet Marketing Consultant" concept?
can there be an international or national organization to coordinate and superwise the certifications?
Thanks,
Lewis

I got a SEO certificate a couple of years ago.. Very official looking paper and all!.. and then my kids got to it and colored on it. Looks much better!

Place your money on "track record" - preferably in your topic niche.

Bruce Clay might be a good place to start researching the topic of SEO certification. He offers a lot of SEO training courses and certifications. SEMPO is an organization that might be able to institute something like this. However, it is unlikely that an SEO certification will ever be widely accepted.
I understand the desire for a certification process, but personally, I think certification has the potential to be more damaging, by giving companies a false sense of security when hiring an SEO consultant/agency. Knowing how to do SEO and acquiring certification doesn't mean you won't take the easy way out with your clients and resort to black hat tactics to get quick results. Like with anything in business, the more research you do yourself, the better decisions you'll usually make. Don't rely on people who aren't really invested to make important decisions for you like whether someone is a credible consultant, especially when knowledge usually isn't the biggest factor in the success or failure of a person.

Does Sticky Post in WordPress Have Impact on SEO?
Hi, I Have a Blog that I have attached a "sticky" post, obviously the content in the "sticky" post is the content that I want to ensure that everyone sees. I do update, by adding new posts daily or at least everyother day, my question is: Is the "sticky" post hurting, helping, or is it indifferent to SEO? I know the SE enjoy fresh content, and was wondering does that fresh content have to pop-up at the top of the page otr not. Any input would be great. Thanks. Jimmy

PR Releases? Do they help your SEO?
Do PR releases help? Do links from PRweb.com carry no value? Was Matt Cutts being specific to the user's website in the Google Webmaster discussion, when Matt said "I wouldn't expect links from press release web sites to benefit your rankings, however." https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/webmasters/O178PwARnZw/discussion

Build a site, do SEO work on it and sell it?
Does anybody do this? With success? I keep finding industries right here in my local area (concrete work, home security, painting) that have 4-5 local companies that are competing and NONE of them are doing even the most BASIC items to seo their site or capitalize on ANYTHING online. I could pick 7-8 of these industries and have somebody who works for me spend a couple hours a week on each building links and writing a half way interesting blog post, etc. and once they rank higher than most of the competition sell em for 2-3 grand I bet, especially since I can prove how much traffic they are getting. Thoughts? Thanks for weighing in. Matthew

Also, we require general SEOs who can perform the usual technical tasks such as creating 301's, canonicals and SEO audit reports on client websites. Ideally we only want UK based, white hatters with at least 2 years SEO experience. Please pm me if this interests you. Thanks Aran

Managing SEO Partners
Hi, Up until yesterday my main role was to implement & create SEO strategies and analytics for varying clients, and our own agency. Going forward I have been tasked with sourcing and managing SEO partners for our existing and future clients. This is totally a new concept for me, and I was wondering if any mozzers out there have been tasked with similar roles and could give me some ideas on what questions I should be asking, or maybe have an SEO matrix to rank agencies to help match to clients? Your help as always is greatly appreciated. Many thanks Sean
