What is more important, tweets/shares or traditional link building?
-
SMM has a presence that is just growing and growing. I'm hearing all these back and forth talks about how tweets/shares are influencing rankings more than traditional link building would.
If so, would this be a short term ranking improvement, long term? What percentage would you say SMM (ranking factor) has when ranking a website in the SERPS.
-
I operate on the assumption that the tweets will have zero value for rankings. They are simply a way to spread the word about content and hopefully that word will spread to other social media channels.... then if the content is strong enough to earn links I will see ranking value. I consider social media as a way to attract links without syndicating my content.
-
So with what I am gathering here, the retweets are going to be beneficial for quick rankings, and for what Google sees on the social side of things, the external links are going to have the long term effect but will not have as quick of an effect as the retweets would. Am I on the right path here?
-
That last line was like poetry perfect answer to the question too!
-
The links.... but you gotta get the retweets first.
-
Yes, but let's say you have 100 retweets and than 100 new external links to your website. Which is going to be more beneficial?
-
It depends what you are tweeting about.
If you are tweeting about garbage content (or even content that is a little better than average) then the benefit will disappear when the tweets roll deep into twitter.
However, if you are tweeting about awesome content then everybody will retweet, and those will retweet and lots of the people who see those tweets will link to your content from their blog submit it to digg and reddit.... it will be like throwing gasoline onto a fire.
The tweets will still roll deep into twitter but the glow over the web will be lasting.

Blog keywords for wordpress/duplicate keywords an issue?
Would you treat the blogs that businesses do the same as their subdomains/landing pages and putting different focus keywords in their blogs/wordpress and meta tags? So you put something different for each of the blog based on content/location/etc and nothing duplicates? Would that affect the rankings that much in regards to blog seo keyword similarities/duplicate descriptions?

Social Media / Articles
Hi Mozzers, I have a couple of questions regarding starting out into social media with an e-commerce website. Most of my experience lies in niche content where a social media following is more natural. Having completed most of the site audit (at least the planning). Its time to begin planning the next move into writing articles on the blog and heading out into social media to facilitate link building whilst i finish off creating the last of the updated website content. I have plenty of subjects I can think to write about and many keywords to target with articles on the website. But I could do with some advice linking this into social media. We have youtube, google+, facebook and twitter accounts but all of them are inactive bar profile information and have almost no following. We sell technical measurement equipment across a selection of niches. My plan is as follows so far, 1. Write 5-10 amazing new articles across the selection of products

2. Link to them all on each social media platform to begin populating each with content
3. Populate the website homepage with links to all our social media accounts to encourage following
3b. Include adverts stating discount codes etc can be obtained by following us on social media a little unsure where to progress from this point, I have no budget available at the moment, but may be able to obtain some if I can achieve some results without. As always thanks for your time.1 -
Best Facebook content to share?
What is the best kinds of things to share on Facebook pages? I read conflicting results on the matter. In my experience memes and funny pictures get the best results. Next is creative art or user generated things. Videos and links to my site, even when they are funny or high quality pieces, get almost no interaction. Videos will basically get ignored and sent out to very few people.

1.5m pageviews / 400k uniques. What are we missing though?
We have built up our site to 1.5m pageviews / 400k uniques per month. But I am sure there are a ton of things that we aren't doing correctly. Please take a look at DenimBlog.com and let me know if there is anything we can do to improve the site. We would love to figure out a way to get to 2m pageviews. Also we would love to have you take a look and check out our google analytics. You can see our 3 years of great data and see if you see anything we aren't capitalizing on. Just drop me your analytics gmail account and I'll add you. Ywo13.png

Influential users who have retweeted my tweet
I was wondering why I see my account in most of the "Influential users who have retweeted my tweet"? As I know, I don't retweet my own tweet 🙂

Incentivisation Strategies for Social Sharing of Product Pages
Hey, What are some great tips for gaining social shares on ecommerce product or category pages? I understand great images and video will go along way, but it's difficult on a large scale ecommerce store. Receiving an offer for sharing something is great - I honestly cant think of a way to track this strategy in a large scale manner. I can send an email after a purchase making an offer to go back to the page to share, but how would I track this? Thanks.

How do I control the thumbnail image for a link on a Facebook post?
Hi, All! I've spent about an hour working on this with no success, so I thought I would ask the community: How do you tell Facebook which image to put in for the thumbnail on a link you're posting? And I would like it to be a different image for each post, and I don't want to have to deal with programming PHP (the main solutions I saw). I'm on a Wordpress based site, and I've tried putting images in as the featured image, made sure they weren't huge (under 200x200), made sure they were .jpeg... and the only thing that Facebook offers me as a thumbnail is a generic "green globe" image that I don't believe comes from my site at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
