Why do some websites that have hardly any backlinks, poorly optimised get placed above sites that are doing all they can with SEO?
-
For example take these two websites. www.rfasecurity.co.uk is a site that Iam working on and have had some success with yet snifferdogs.org.uk seems to be poorly optimised with little backlinks and still gets place higher. is it due to the key word in the domian name?
The key search word is sniffer dogs
New at this so any help would be appreciated
regards
Dave

I do some local SEO work and regularly see exact match domains with little or no other SEO positives (relevant links, great content etc) outperforming much better, optimised sites.
That is why people believe that exact match domains have to be knocked down a peg or two at some point although it doesn't seem to have happened yet.
My advice is to continue to ensure you have relevant, keyword targetted, unique content and to build up your link profile so that even if that isn't enough currently to overtake the exact match domain site, when the expected algorithmic tweak occurs the site is perfectly placed to leapfrog its rivals.
Likewise where I manage/advise sites with exact match domains I tell them not to be too complacent and that they have to follow the best practices so that if they lose their domain name advantage at some point in the future that the site will still remain number 1 on merit.

Thank Barry for your comments which are taken on board. Dont you just love SEO? We must of jumped a place overnight how weird is that?
-
I see you ranking higher than them.
However, that video the EGOL linked to and the exact match domain are definitely things to recognise.
-
Hi, had a look at the video, and understand whats being said, but still doesnt stack up in this case. If the site had great content then OK that combined with the domain i could live with. I need more evidence somehow
-
thanks I will have a look now and come back to you,

ExactMatch.com keyword domains tend to rank a little higher than optimization and backlinks warrant.
However, watch Matt Cutts in this video....

Building a high-traffic website in a jobs-related domain
Hi, We are currently planning upon starting a website that’s targeted towards people looking for government jobs in India. Here are the primary / base keywords that we are targeting: Sarkari Naukri Government Jobs / Govt Jobs Latest Government jobs Banking Jobs Bank jobs Railway jobs Employment News IBPS SSC We’re confused that how should we go about ranking on top for these / long tail keywords around it? Because, we think that this is not a domain where you can write long and information-oriented posts (1400-1500 words) to crack SEO. People come to websites under this domain to look for latest jobs and that might or might not be around the high-traffic keywords mentioned above. Secondly, it might not be possible to write a lot of long & information-oriented content around these newer job posts. How do we go about building a high-traffic website in this domain? Thanks...

Is it possible to create "hidden" backlinks?
Don't miss interpret this... I DON'T mean hidden backlinks that you would stick on a page using html/css. What I am trying to figure out is if it's possible to create backlinks from sites that aren't visible by crawlers or SEO tools like Moz?... Does that make sense? Another words, let's say I place a visible/genuine/follow backlink to any external website from my blog. Is there a way to keep crawlers like Moz or other SEO tools from "seeing it"?

How can stale, poor quality sites rank above fresh, high quality sites?
Dear Community, How is it that a Google search for temperature sensors shows the second result as site **A **(http://goo.gl/zRS1L) in a higher positionthan site B (http://goo.gl/3Xy2O) which is on the 2nd page of the SERPs. Site A blatantly does not follow Google's webmaster guidelines and recommendations for design, content or code. Site B scores an 'A' for on page analysis using SEOmoz, it also has a much higher number of root domains in and Moz rank, we have checked that site B has only quality inbound links, and anchor text is natural, it follows Google's guidelines for content and code diligently, and it is on an older domain. We are satisfied that site B has not been penalised by Google, e.g Penguin algorithm updates. We have also done a website verification with Google. Site B has fresher content compared to site A. Site B also has a sitemap yet site A doesn't. We're satisfied that we can rule out the following Algorithm Factors: Penguin algorithm updates Google Notified penalties Dodgy Inbound links Dodgy Anchor text Website verification with Google Fresh vs. static content Sitemap present Server Speed Server location Domain age and about 170 other algorithm factors Does anyone have any ideas as to why site A is ranking higher than site B in Google.co.uk? Thanks in advance. CD.

Keyword Search - another site bypassed me and they are not ranked well...
I was trying to optimize the keywords "music for kids" . This is a no brainer because my URL is "musicforkids" My On-Page Report Card for "music for kids" gives my site a "A". The on page report card for the other site gets an "F". But the other site comes up number ONE in the organic Google search and my site comes up number three. The two sites above me receive a crappy on page Keyword report for the key words "music for kids" but they still come up above me for that search term. What's the deal?

I use traditional methods for keyword discovery, but occured to me that perhaps competitive keyword software should be applied to competitor's sites for further possibilitites. Any opinions or experience using this strategy? I know it used primarily for PPC, but value for SEO KW discovery? Any personal recommendations on which programs considered most effective? Thanks.
