Multiple brands issue
-
My client has his main brand on the domain name .com and then 3 brands that exist on .com/brandA , com/brandB and .com/brandC
We created a lot of content for .com main brand and we noticed that brandB copied some of our content and put it on .com/brandB . How to deal with this? Canonical tags?
-
Hi Alicja,
When you say "some of your content," how much do you mean? If brandB copied a paragraph or a few sentences and used it as an intro to a unique piece of content, you should be fine. Google understands that there's naturally going to be some overlap on the same domain.
If they copied an entire page, yes, I would recommend using canonical tags, or removing the content. I assume that brandB understands that a canonical tag will mean their version of the page probably won't rank on Google?
Best,
Kristina

301 Redirects for Multiple Language Sites in htaccess File
Hi everyone, I have a site on a subdomain that has multiple languages set up at the domain level: https://mysite.site.com, https://mysite.site.fr , https://mysite.site.es , https://mysite.site.de , etc. We are migrating to a new subdomain and I am trying to create 301 redirects within the htaccess file, but I am a bit lost on how to do this as it seems you have to go from a relative url to an absolute - which would be fine if I was only doing this for the english site, but I'm not. It doesn't seem like I can go from absolute url to an absolute url - but I could be wrong. I am new to editing the htaccess file - so I could definitely use some advice here. Thanks.

Piggybacking on a domains authority - Unsure on whether to move a sub brand or not
Hey guys, We are a higher ed website and we have a conference centre that would like to have separate brand identity to the college. They have the local keyword friendly domain confrencecentre.ie redirecting to their conference centre landing page on the higher ed site. We are considering going back to the conferencecentre.ie and redirecting the higher ed landing page to this domain. My main concerns are if we do this are we taking a risk with loosing are rankings? Currently we are ranked very highly for many keywords related to conference centre and most of our traffic is from organic. I'm afraid of recommending this move for this reason as I feel the conference centre is piggybacking of the authority of the our higher ed website. I'd love to here your thoughts? Thanks Rob

Order and multiple match when 301 redirect ?
Hi, I'm migrating a single domain to a multiple domain for each language, using apache redirections: Redirect 301 /partners http://www.itris-automation.com/
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | 2MSens
Redirect 301 /partner-si http://www.itris-automation.com/system-integrators-partners
Redirect 301 /partner-institute http://www.itris-automation.com/institutional-partners
Redirect 301 /fr/ http://www.itris-automation.fr/
Redirect 301 /fr/support http://www.itris-automation.fr/support
Redirect 301 /privacy?lang=fr http://www.itris-automation.fr/politique-de-confidentialite Redirect 301 /de/plc-converter http://www.itris-automation.de/plc-converter
Redirect 301 /de/services http://www.itris-automation.de/
Redirect 301 /de/plc-quality http://www.itris-automation.de/sps-qualitat .... However it doesn't work properly: For example automationsquare.com/privacy?lang=fr redirect to http://www.itris-automation.com/privacy instead of http://www.itris-automation.fr/politique-de-confidentialite Does the order of the redirect has an influence? Am I missing something? I've seen that the command [L] can be useful to avoid mismatch? Thanks, Best, Benoit.0 -
Canonical Issue with urls
I saw some urls of my site showing duplicate page content, duplicate page title issues on crawl reports. So I have set canonical url for every urls , that has dupicate content / page title. Checked URL http://www.cyrusrugs.com/bridge-traditional-area-rug-item-7635 dup page content http://www.cyrusrugs.com/bridge-traditional-area-rug-item-7622&category_id=270&colors=Black_Tones&click=colors&ci=1

Search engine should identify the canonical url as original url and only should consider that. Thanks0 -
Issues with Google-Bot crawl vs. Roger-Bot
Greetings from a first time poster and SEO noob... I hope that this question makes sense... I have a small e-commerce site, I have had Roger-bot crawl the site and I have fixed all errors and warnings that Volusion will allow me to fix. Then I checked Webmaster Tools, HTML improvements section and the Google-bot sees different dupe. title tag issues that Roger-bot did not. so A few weeks back I changed the title tag for a product, and GWT says that I have duplicate title tags but there is only one live page for the product. GWT lists the dupe. title tags, but when I click on each they all lead to the same live page. I'm confused, what pages are these other title tags referring to? Does Google have more than one page for that product indexed due to me changing the title tag when the page had a different URL? Does this question make sense? 2) Is this issue a problem? 3) What can I do to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated Jeff

Does anyone else have issues with atomysolutions.com?
Nearly all of my domains in webmaster tools show thousands of links to me from atomysolutions.com. Problem is only a couple links show up to them in OSE so can't learn much there. I try to access their site but every page I do I get a 403 forbidden error. All I can gather is they are some kind of health and beauty thing. I did a site search in Google and looked at the cached result of the first page but it took me to sexyshoes.co.uk or something. I honestly cannot figure out. OSE shows them as one of my linking domains, but I can't see any of the pages linking to me. I need to know if this is a spammy site that I need to disavow. I have no idea how or why they link to me. Any insight from any Mozzers is GREATLY appreciated! 🙂

Penguin Update Issues.. What would you recommend?
Hi, We've been pretty badly hit by this penguin Update. Site traffic is down 40-50%. We suspect it's for a couple of reasons 1)Google is saying we have duplicate content. e.g. for a given category we will have 4-5 pages of content (products). So it's saying pagenum=2 , pagenum=3 etc are duplicate pages. We've implemented rel=canonical so that pagenum=2 point to the original category e.g. http://mydomain/widgets.aspx We've even specified pagenum as a url parameter that pagniates. Google still hasn't picked up these changes. How long does it take - it's been about a week 2)They've saying we have soft 404 errors. e.g. we remove a category or product we point users to a category or page not found. is it best to block googlebot from crawling these page by specifying in robots.txt. because we really don't care about these categories or product pages. How best to handle? 3)There are some bad directory and crawlers that have crawled our website but have put incorrect links . So we've got like 1700 product not found. I'm sure that's taking up a lot of crawling time. So how do we tell Google not to bother with these link coming from specific sources e.g. ignore all links coming from xxx.com. Any help will be much appreciated as this is Killing our business. Jay
