Does applying filters in Google Analytics affect Moz Data?
-
Hello,
I'm dealing with spam in google analytics, applying filters (and using segments for historical data)
Does applying a filter in GA affect Moz data, future or historical?
Is there a way of doing this?
Thank you!
-
Charles-Olivier - Yep, you got it!
Radi - So, to answer your initial question:
- Simply applying filters in GA will not affect Moz data.
- However, creating a GA profile in which filters are applied and connecting it to your Moz campaign will result in your campaign showing filtered data.
Many thanks to Erica, Chiaryn, and Tori, because to be honest I had no idea about #2.

I think it makes sense.
I just looked back at how you connect and you choose an Account - so far it ain't hard. The profile is a collection of all views found in your different Analytics Properties.
So let's say I choose my Account and the Profile dropdown gives me;
- "Raw DATA (UA-XXXXX-1)"
- "Filtered DATA (UA-XXXXX-1)"
- "Test DATA (UA-XXXXX-1)"
- "Raw DATA (UA-XXXXX-2)"
If I want to pull data that is filtered, I'll select the "Filtered DATA (UA-XXXXX-1)". Since Google just filters out the data, it can't really give Moz the raw data since the source is filtered and, therefore, "can't be reprocessed".
Am I understanding right Matt?
Croy,

Actually, you're half right, and I should've been more clear. If you're using your default GA profile, the filters won't apply to Moz campaigns, because the GA API only gives us the raw data.
You can, however, connect your campaign to a filtered GA profile, but you have to be using the filtered US code as the GA profile in your campaign. So, if your primary GA profile has the code has the suffix "-1" and the filtered one has "-4," your Moz campaign will have to be connected to "-4" in order to reflect the filters.
Does that make sense? I'm finding this weirdly hard to explain.
-
I disagree, it should be using filters as they're applied on the view this is also the data that will be gathered from the API that Moz is using. So if you apply filters (not to be confused with segments) than it should be reflected on Moz as well, but only with future data.
-
Thanks Matt. So is there a way of 'cleaning' my moz data of ghost/spam referral?
-
This is exactly what I was thinking! Thanks for the clarification Matt.
-
Hi Radi! No, it does not. Google doesn't share with us what filters you've applied.

Funnel Problem in Google Analytics - Please help
Hello, I did set up a several funnel steps in my analytics account to get the funnel visualization report. But it's look fishy, something's clearly wrong that it shows only 10 visitors at the first step but actually more than 5k visitors has visited first goal page and followed through the another all steps. Everyday we are receiving 5k to 10k goal conversions but it not showing in the entire funnel steps through first step to last step. Please see the attached screenshot URL for funnel setup (Admin) and funnel visualization report comparing last two months traffic. Total goal conversions received 3,605 in last two months but in funnel chart (report) it showing only 2% conversions in last step. Anybody can tell me what is the problem with that or analytics not tracking properly?si65Y

Cross domain tracking setup in Google Analytics
I really need help on this, I can't figure it out. I need to track a few subdomains and and couple of seperate domains in one profile in Google Analytics. So I have: www.maindomain.co.uk sub1.maindomain.co.uk sub2.maindomain.co.uk www.anotherdomain.co.uk So the code I have placed on all of these domains is as following: I have then set up seperate profiles which filter out the data by domain. E.g. for sub1.maindomain.co.uk, I have user the fitler: Custom filter > Include > Filter Field = Hostname > Filter Pattern = sub1.maindomain.co.uk For the www.anotherdomain.co.uk, I have used the same filter. Now this all seems to be tracking visits and unique visitors okay, but I always have a very low pageview count, less than visits and sometimes zero. Could anyone shed any light on what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance mozzers.

Track image searches on google analytics
How can i track image searches on google analytics? To filter the refferers by image.google or /imgres does not work in new google analytics (and brings an impossibly small number on old GA). also, this would not cover local google image refferers, that don't come from image.google.com. anyone knows how to find image search sources? i haven't found anything helpful in google's documentation or forums. thanks!

Seeing / and no / in Google Analytics
When I look at my Google Analytics code, I see that the same content will show up twice, once with a / at the end of the URL, and once without. My site is at http://www.skypeenglishclasses.com. Does anyone know why this would happen? Is it duplicate content?
