Paid Link Backs?
-
I know I have read that Google doesn't give much value to paid link backs. My company has worked with a charitable organization (marine research and conservation) in the past and we were considering a corporate donation to them. My question is, would there be value in this from an SEO standpoint? There are many many other company links listed on this page. The area we would be listed would be towards the top of the page. Also, they have a really good DA, 71. I don't believe I have many if any .org / charitable organizations in my link profile. Thanks!

This doesn't sound like buying links to me but rather giving a donation and receiving a link as a by product as a charitable deed. Would be surprised if this didn't do you more good than harm as stated above.

Although Google didn’t really like Paid links but the method you explained sounds like a link against a donation with is a pretty decent activities to many within the industry.
This post by SEO Book tells you a little more about it: http://www.seobook.com/archives/001455.shtml
I personally do use this idea based on client’s link profile. I believe if your link profile is supported by other good links as well these links are only going to help instead of hurting you in most cases.
Just a Thought!

As with most things in SEO, a single link like this isn't going to land you in a penalty and honestly, it's more likely to do good than harm.
What you don't want to do is make a habit of this. If you're part of an organisation that has a membership fee and you get a link out of it, it's happy days. If you're just identifying strong sites and throwing money at them for a link that's a different story.
Many will make the logical case that search engines can't tell the difference and a link is a link but they're constantly getting better at understanding context and there are quite a few consistent factors that help them understand the legitimacy of a link. One of many of course being relevance.

Should You Get Link back from Customers
In the SEO guide on Moz, it states as one of the link building strategies: Get your customers to link to you If you have partners you work with regularly, or loyal customers that love your brand, you can capitalize on this by sending out partnership badges—graphic icons that link back to your site (like Google often does with their AdWords certification program). Just as you'd get customers wearing your t-shirts or sporting your bumper stickers, links are the best way to accomplish the same feat on the web. We design websites for churches and non-profits, and put a link back to our site as the designer. We recently have been told this is spammy and not a good idea. However, from what MOZ says, it sounds like they are promoting you do this. Please comment. Thanks.

Link Building
Hi Mozzers, I work for an IT company specialising in outsourcing Cisco Engineers worldwide. Due to being involved heavily in outsourcing, I'm finding it impossible to generate genuine and organic links to our website. My question is that is it essential to have back links back to our website to achieve high search engine rankings? I'm unable to get clients and other partners to provide links as we're the outsourced company, but I can get backlinks from unrelated c ompanies. For example we're running a CSR initiative with a National Gym relating to health & fitness, also links from our web designers etc... Do these links have any type of value? Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Jason 🙂

Links from sites with iffy link profiles?
So the site http://www.cadenas.de/ appears to have good decent scores from the various Moz ranks, but when I check out the site in OSE there are a lot of really sketchy links that jump out, online pharmacy/drug type links. I should also add that the negative links are seemingly going to a weird blog deep in the site and only appear when I select all links to the root domain in OSE. Everything about the site appears very legitimate except for the link profile which has me nervous. Would you guys pursue a link from this site?

Nasty links
Hi My first q on here (hoorah!), and it's about links (boo!). I've got what appears to be a handful (but worryingly, increasing in number) of links pointing to my site like this: http://condos.mrgulffront.com/florida-condos-for-sale/320-scenic-gulf-drive-miramar-beach-fl-32550-mls-567591/ I've made contact with the sites concerned, and had only one positive response who flatly denied all knowledge of it. The issue (as far as I can see) is that as in the above example the links (on the bottom right in the grey box) are forever changing so not always visible. Can anyone offer any guidance as to these kinds of nasty links.... I'm right at the v beginning on this "path of seo understanding" so please don't assume prior knowledge! Thanks in advance.... tom

Hi guys i wanted you views on changing the anchor text of links. I have quality links coming in but with year terms such as 2012 in there, if i want to change them all to 2013 for example would it be badly seen by Google? I cant say i feel comfortable about doing it but they are my links and are related to our products. Any advice much appreciated.

What to do with some good links I have?
I have some pretty strong links from relevant sources linking to the homepage of a site I deal with. The links are usually from a PR3-5 pages and display specific result about the linking site. Sometimes they come from badges. We offer several services, so sometimes the page is about one service and next time about the other. Currently all of my pages link to the homepage. Would it not be better to link to the specific product page related to the page I have? Also I can do a canonical to the service pages? Which would be best?
