What are your views on link submitters / directory submitters?
-
I have no real opinion on them to be honest, I don't really have any experience with them personally:
eg: http://www.fastdirectorysubmitter.com/downloads.html
http://www.thelinksubmitter.com/
I presume they will be negative or a waste of time?
-
In general - tools like this are rarely worth the time or hassle at all, as has been said - however, thats not to say that all directory submission is a waste of time.
If a directory stands up to scrutiny - then submission can be worth it, for example:
It has a good DA and the subject section has a good P/A
It has a relevant section to your niche
It will actually give you a link and not strip it out after you post it.
The page on which you link is displayed is not buried deep in the directory structure (like dmoz)
The directory and its pages are not stuffed with adsense or advertising
The directory is not full of dupe content.
The chances of any bulk submission software or tool finding a significant number of directories that meet the above conditions are virtually non-existent, and the handful that will apply to your business and be worth getting a link on will be reasonably easy to find yourself.

Spend the money on a well written piece of content to add to your site. Much better investment.

I did a trial about a month ago, after the last panda update. 770 submissions and after 2 weeks I could find only 5 in Google (and of that only 1 provided a link back, the other 4 sites had stripped them out)
This is one of the reasons im turning to stuff like myblogguest, but im not convinced of it yet
-
Exactly what I thought. Thanks both.

Pure fluff, a waste of time and it makes it harder for a good SEO to do their job.
The analogy I like to use is an electrician doing their job. You want to move power from point A to point B. You want to monitor the flow of that power as well. If you have 10 power cables then you can clearly view your power flow. If you have 1010 cables but only 10 of them are actually flowing power then it's a mess to sort through.
The only caveat I will add is there are some sites with good DA and decent PA which can be manipulated to flow rank to your site. For example there are some Chinese government sites that don't nofollow links and a few asian blogs as well. I am confident Google will catch on but for now, it works. I don't believe the submitters you shared use these particular sites but they are examples. They could anchor their sites which lack value with one or two sites that actually flow link juice right now, but it's only until Google pulls the plug.
-
That was exactly my feeling.
-
Just an opinion...
I don't use these products. I believe that any link that can be obtained by anybody using any form of automatic submission is not going to be worth much. I believe that those sites will be stuffed so full of manipulative links to manipulating sites that their value will be zero. I honestly would worry that having a bunch of these links would put a bad odor on my site.

We're looking at providing SEO for a website that has the majority of its incoming links from websites created solely to provide links. Few have bad spam rankings. How worried should I be about those links?
The majority of incoming links to a prospect's website are from website pages apparently created solely to provide links to the website. Few have high spam scores. The sites linking to the main site have versions of blogs with linked text. They seem to be providing positive SEO value now, but I'm concerned they might get noticed and hurt the main site in the future.

Removing bad/poor quality links from the site
Sometime back my site was penalized due to unnatural artificial and deceptive links. Then we got removed the penalty by uploading file in Disavow Tool. Bad links are decreasing gradually now . What i am concerned to ask is that: 1: For how long i should wait till Google removes all the requested bad links 2:Second, i believe there are still many bad links that I dont want to keep. How to remove them now onward? Should we send Google a reconsideration request for removing the remaining bad links (site has been recovered already and no more under penalty banner) Tanveer

Will short linking to my site affect SERPs attribution of inbound link?
Some brand partners are using their short links to link back to our site (like bit.ly but they have their own). They have a high domain authority and trust so we want that link back to be read by Google. When I downloaded all inbound links from Moz, this brand's site was not listed, making me worried that the inbound link isn't being seen or considered! Haven't been able to find any info on this...

Does This Link Have Value?
Hi Mozzers, A client paid to publish a white paper, thinking that the link to the web site is beneficial. The link does redirect back to the web site, but is in a format that I've never seen: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001YdyyLrzOQJxM87SJZkJYVbQKSdCmFpwqg1fuX3yqVqpGboUjdSaHv9IdW5HsQpgmvwOrg5N4T3DNHYV8e1UVe_YCua_XQCFykoSJvu1HzDyb-3x-aFcPU-ER-vwWxq4- Does this link have any value?

Is link exchange a reliable source to get back links?
I read a latest post on seomoz that _“Do not buy or exchange link with anyone who contacts you. This is completely against Google's policies and if they were to find out, you could be penalized." So I went through Google's ''Link Schemes'' and found that ''Excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you")'' can negatively impact a site's ranking . _ So is it the ''excessive'' link exchanging that can cause a negative impact? Exchanging links with good quality, cached sites (without excessive doing) can do good or bad? Can anyone please explain to me in detail?

Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.
I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. (Non-Paid) http://www.yoganza.com http://www.wkool.com http://www.wee-directory.com http://www.voicelet.com www.hotfrog.ca http://www.webdirectorieslist.com http://multiplelistingboard.com http://mozdirectory.net http://freedirectorypr.info Industry specific below: http://bestautolinks .com http://automotivedome.com http://automobilebuzz.com http://craigsautolinks.com Thanks so much for the help!
