What is a good "white hat" content distribution network for link building?
-
I am helping a client with Local SEO efforts who has hundreds of blog posts (they have been doing 5 a week for the last 3 years) that contain full length articles about their industry. The client's website itself has been very well optimized for all regards (CRO, Mobile, download speed, citations). However they have very weak domain authority compared to their competitors.
I am looking for a bona fide content distribution network I could use to promote my client's blog posts/articles. I have used Linkvana in the past but I have become wary of them after the penguin update. I also had functionality problems using their interface.
Are their any bona fide content/article distribution networks out there?
Thanks

John Mueller of Google Search recently shared quite a bit on the topic of links and website ranking factors in a Google Webmasters Hangout.
Naturally gaining affirmative incoming links pointing to those blog posts will substantially help. Creating the post is only a first step, I find that marketing the post afterwards takes longer - but also is what really gets the content used.
How I understood the conversation with John Mueller about on-page linking.
When a link is no followed, Google doesn’t pass link juice.
When a link is followed but is no indexed, in this case, Google does pass page rank because they are aware of the page.
When a page is no indexed and the link is nofollow, Google essentially sees it similar to a 404 page and skips it will flag to the spiders that this page is now relevant and to re-crawl the page.
CONCLUSION: When conducting a link audit, reviewing the link risk and considering factors currently ranking sites, the need for SEOs to understand NoFollow links is still necessary. This goes beyond the scope of the content distribution networks that we've tried.
When something is this central to building your domain authority, I agree with Egol that a more hands-on approach has it benefits.
Strong social signals also help a lot: each platform is unique from Google+, to Facebook and LinkedIn for lead generation.

I don't use a content distribution service for any of my sites. We simply post content and our visitors do the sharing for us.
The most instructive thing that you can do, since you have a nice body of content already on the site, is to look at that content to identify patterns of the types of articles and topics of articles that pull the most traffic, generate the most shares, accumulat the most links. This information is extremely valuable for informing future content development.
If this company is posting five blog posts per week they are either posting "quick stuff" or they have a lot of people writing for them. If they have a lot of people writing then look at which of those people are producing the valuable work. Give them a raise, have them work more hours. Those that are not producing valuable content can be given different work or not engaged in the future.
My "quick stuff" usually doesn't go anywhere. "Quick stuff" might not be substantive enough, compelling enough or valuable enough or whatever enough to be shared or linked or liked by visitors. Out of all of the content on my site a small number of things are rocket fuel, most is pedestrian and some is simply dead wood. None of that was quick stuff, it is all substantive stuff that we produce and learn from. Learn what the rocket fuel is made of and make more. Or, improve the pedestrian to make it stronger.
If you make rocket fuel you generally don't need a content distribution service.... and if you are making quick stuff or dead wood you don't need a content distribution service for that either... instead you need a magician.

Thanks Andy
We are trying to find a method to better utilize the library of content we created. I was hoping to find a content distribution service that assist with this process. -
Hi Rosemary,
I'm not too sure you can use 'bone fide' and 'distribution networks' in the same sentence
Quite seriously, I would be looking to make some headway in their market niche rather than trying to make use of networks. I am sure that between your client and yourself, you can find top industry influencers to engage with and start to build their brand a bit more.
I would be trying to take a more natural approach to this and find forums, discussions, questions (Quora?) and Social Media to make a start with this. Perhaps some of the older articles can be checked to see if they are still relevant and if not, update them with something more current.
I hope this helps.

Should Multi Location Businesses "Local Content Silo" Their Services Pages?
I manage a site for a medical practice that has two locations. We already have a location page for each office location and we have the NAP for both locations in the footer of every page. I'm considering making a change to the structure of the site to help it rank better for individual services at each of the two locations, which I think will help pages rank in their specific locales by having the city name in the URL. However, I'm concerned about diluting the domain authority that gets passed to the pages by moving them deeper in the site's structure. For instance, the services URLs are currently structured like this: www.domain.com/services/teeth-whitening (where the service is offered in each of the two locations) Would it make sense to move to a structure more like www.domain.com/city1name/teeth-whitening www.domain.com/city2name/teeth-whitening Does anyone have insight from dealing with multi-location brands on the best way to go about this?

"spammy structred data" search console message
Hey gang, I want to first say thank you to anybody that tries to help me with this. I'm not quite sure where to start. So first I get the message in search console for my locksmith website that it looks like I have some spammy structured data. I remembered that for one landing page I did have the stars short code on it and it was displaying the stars. Well, I went and looked and they were indeed no longer showing. So I simply deleted the shortcode, but I wanted to do a thorough check of my landing pages, one by one. Now I have project supremacy on my wordpress site, which I stand by, it's a solid product and I have been able to make my per page schema look really good, zero errors. So I went through each page that had errors on it and fixed them and sent it all back into google for 'reconsideration'. BUT today (sorry this is getting long) I look in my search console and I see that ALL of my blog posts have errors on them. Something wrong with the hentry. As I test one of the posts in structured data tester tool I see 4 errors and 4 warnings. I don't have the author displaying which is not true and some other things. But I have never ever tried to schema any of my blog posts and there is ZERO site wide schema, I already checked. Where is this bad schema living, and could that be the reason for the spammy stuff? Thank you crew!!! mwDd8

How does duplicate content work when creating location specific pages?
In a bid to improve the visibility of my site on the Google SERP's, I am creating landing pages that were initially going to be used in some online advertising. I then thought it might be a good idea to improve the content on the pages so that they would perform better in localised searches. So I have a landing page designed specifically to promote what my business can do, and funnel the user in to requesting a quote from us. The main keyword phrase I am using is "website design london", and I will be creating a few more such as "website design birmingham", "website design leeds". The only thing that I've changed at the moment across all these pages is the location name, I haven't touched any of the USP's or the testimonial that I use. However, in both cases "website design XXX" doesn't show up in any of the USP's or testimonial. So my question is that when I have these pages built, and they're indexed, will I be penalised for this tactic?

Search Result Discrepancy: Keyword "Dresses" shows international sites in the search results of Google.co.in.
Hi All, What would be the reason that Google shows international websites in the first page results while there are huge local players available. Eg: Dresses - Keyword that shows results with almost all the results from International websites whereas the local big players in the same category are not shown. This is not the case for other keywords like Women dresses, Clothing, Shoes etc., Is it a bug or any particular reasons? Thanks,

Do more page links work against a Google SEO ranking when there is only 1 url that other sites will link to?
Say I have a coupon site in a major city and assume there are 20 main locations regions (suburb cities) in that city. Assume that all external links to my site will be to only the home page. www.site.com Assume also that my website business has no physical location. Which scenario is better? 1. One home page that serves up dynamic results based on the user cookie location, but mentions all 20 locations in the content. Google indexes 1 page only, and all external links are to it. 2. One home page that redirects to the user region (one of 20 pages), and therefore will have 20 pages--one for each region that is optimized for that region. Google indexes 20 pages and there will be internal links to the other 19 pages, BUT all external links are still only to the main home page. Thanks.

Want to move contents to domain2 and use domain1 for other content
Hello, We would like to merge two existing, fairly well positioned web forums. Contents (threads and posts) from www.forocreativo.net would be moved to www.comunidadhosting.com. We are testing some scripts which will handle redirect 301 for every single thread from forocreativo.net to comunidadhosting.com. But here is the thing: once all current contents are moved out of www.forocreativo.net, we would like to use this domain to point it to a specific geographic region and to target other niche/topics. Would you say we can do this and Google will not penalize neither of those 2 domains? Any input is more than welcome. Thank you! 🙂
