What is the best SEO friendly way to combine two websites.
-
I have two websites, eg:
widgets.com - sells expensive widgets as gifts
everydaywidgets.com - sells cheap widgets for everyday use.
I would like to combine them both under the widgets.com domain name, because its easier to run the SEO campaign for one rather than two. But i still want two different product collections, and two different sites.
widgets.com is by far the larger of the two sites so my current thought is to have that the main landing site, and have a button at the top to take the user to widgets.com/everydaywidgets where they have a similar but different site, and different products.
I can set this all up no problem with the correct 301 redirects from everydaywidgets.com, but is it SEO friendly? Does anyone know of a real world example of a business doing this?
Cheers

Luckily, 301 redirecting from one site to another (when moving a site) and using the Google Change of Address Tool has taken out a lof of the risk that used to exist. if done properly, you should benefit from combining both sites and not lose any rankings.
You're on the right track, I would outline the content and make sure that there's not any content that overlaps--every product/service and every page should be unique and not cause any duplicate content issues.
Generally speaking, you'd want to do what you're planning, which is to use a directory off of your main domain and then 301 redirect the pages from the old site to the new pages on the new site. Use the Google Change of Address Tool to tell Google about the change.
I would fully integrate the pages into your main navigation on the site rather than just provide a link--it's important that the new pages get all the internal links that they can.

Doing 301 is always going to be a risk But if you do them right they can work fine.
I can't give you the site sadly but we had to do this for a very large client about 18 months ago. They sold shoes and they had two brands they wanted to put into one site.
What we did was a full reband and put everything under the one style and layout. This helped a lot because users were able to flow between the different products without getting lost.
From an SEO point of view we 301 each page to match the new page. there is easy sidewide ways to do 301 but as we were moving to a new flow. So we put the time and money into customising each 301. We also made sure to take the same seo onsite over too.
hope this helps and best of luck too.

Changed the trailing slashes - how it effect SEO?
Hi, I'm doing a project called https://www.machinerygate.com/ Due to trailing slashes issues, our developer requests to remove the trailing slashes from the URLs. However, the homepage with and without trailing slashes the same effect right. How about the inner pages affect SEO. Because we just started to do SEO and not even one single link of Inner pages done with the process. However, for example, the URL for https://www.machinerygate.com/machinery/cranes/ is before with trailing slashes and it is on google indexed with trailing slashes. Due to some bug, google inspection tool has been not functioning nowadays and I'm finding hard to index the new URL without trailing slashes https://www.machinerygate.com/machinery/cranes to index on Google. If this gets indexed, how the URL with trailing slashes will be, does it automatically redirect to URL without trailing slashes or not? Please share your thought about this concern.

Should I let 22-year-old website go or revamp it?
Hi, I’m trying to decide whether to renew annual hosting for my old website and hoping a wiser brain than mine in these matters might be able to advise me. The website was the home of a weekly website review column, e-newsletter, content writing tips and other web content/marketing related content so has lots of backlinks since 1997, though hasn't been updated for about 10 years. The domain email address is listed on some spam lists as I suspect it was harvested from the site by crawling spambots. I haven't bothered trying to de-list as don't use the address or website anymore. The site has never been used for PBN or sending spam (at least not by me). There's lots of good content in there, and some would still be relevant, but not sure if it's worth keeping for backlinks and for redirecting to my new website when it’s built. Plan to build a new WordPress website for my new writing as no longer in the content marketing business. It's a country-specific domain so can't really sell it as need to own the business name to own the domain name. I no longer use the business name either as plan to set up new brand for new website. But it might be useful to direct traffic to my new website domain once it's up and running if I cleaned up all the many broken links to expired websites in the databases of hundreds of website reviews. It's all on archive.org but I'm still very attached to the old site, even if it's no longer useful from a business point of view. Did a Moz check which showed: Domain Authority

20 Linking Domains
89 Discovered in the last 60 days
1 Lost in last 60 days
4 Inbound Links
1.9k Ranking Keywords
0 My web host stats show the site gets between 300 and 500 visits a month. Had about 138,200 visits since October last year. And about 653,200 hits. Is that amount of traffic worth the time and expense of pruning the site of hundreds of expired links and fixing up other glitches? It's very dated in design and layout and is written in .asp I could send you the URL in private message if you would like to look at the website first. Been agonising over this decision for months as budget is very tight but don’t want to lose the site if it might have future value. Would greatly appreciate advice from someone who's up on this stuff as I've been out of the game for a long time and the deadline to renew the site hosting is very soon. Thank you in advance for your time and help.0 -
Is my content strategy focusing on the best vertical?
Help Mozzers! I've been struggling to find a solid content and posting (social media) strategy. This particular client has an ecommerce website within the home and garden industry. Her products include: screen magnets window hangers outdoor metal art switchplates (outlet covers) The recent content I've been posting is DIY related home decor ideas. I would love some ideas on niches or verticals I can tap into. The audience is female dominant, ages 35-65+. I'm wondering if I should stay within home decor and trying to work the products in, or there is another vertical my mind is blanking over. Thanks for the help Mozzers!

Viral Video :Best use - What to do with it?
So I was told that I have video that should be the next "viral video" in a particular vertical market. (It is an animal) Anyway I have 4 offers from different companies now that want to market it for me. Junkin Media, Rumble.com, Newsflare and Storyful. Junkin wants ownership in perpetuity the other groups want for 1 year to market to news agencies. They are offering 60/40 revenue split with me getting 60. plus an extra $1 per thousand hits on the video. Supposedly they will market it to for me to news agencies etc. Anyway I was wondering if it would work best for me to market it myself and embed my business website link in the video for link juice on my home page. Then I can post the video in various places and the link strength might help my domain or page authority. Any suggestions about viral video use? Boo

Local SEO - Review's Strategy
I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas for obtaining positive reviews for a my client who's a local business on Yelp and Google+. I think it's best to capture a customer in the "happy moment" after a successful transaction with that business. I'm thinking integrating the option for customers to leave a review on Yelp or Google+ during the transaction process would be best. Do you have any suggestions or experiences on the best way to integrate this into a transaction process where a customer physically walks into their business to make the transaction? (it's an Auto Body Shop BTW) Also any other strategies for getting customers to give reviews? Much appreciated!

Can we publish two guest posts on one domain with same pen name but different linking website?
Can we publish two guest posts on one domain with same pen name but different linking website? Actually I have been doing guest posts with pen name “Jane Andrew” for “abc.com”(bit old and well performing website). Now I need to post for a new website “xyz.com” on some old domains (where I have already published my articles) so the situation is that I want domains and pen name to remain same but linking website would be different. I had few questions in my mind regarding that and I would be grateful if you help me getting the required information. Is it right from SEO, branding and marketing point of view? How Google interprets this? Is there any harm for the old well performing website or for the new one? And also both websites are owned and managed by the same owner.

Best to have separate private and the business twitter accounts?
Just starting to use twitter and can see its potential but I have a personal account, one my holiday letting business and one for my CCTV installation business. Obviously the problem is I have to login to each account separately and post relevant tweets. I like the idea that people following because they're interested in the subject but the downside obviously is that I have to split my time and my total followers across three accounts. What do you do with your twitter presence focus on one account or have separate accounts?

Creative way to secure local addresses for Google Places?
For those of us that operate business in other areas that we technically dont have an "address" in... are there any creative ideas/ways anyone has run across in securing a physical address that you can use for local listing? I have already tried the virtual office type of companies, and their inventory is limited to major metropolitan areas.
