Your question is especially good, because it perfectly highlights a practical concern and actually points to an answer. You're right: it would be hard to find something different to say about 1 inch screws vs. 2 inch screws vs. 3 inch screws. So, if the screws are all actually the same brand, why not combine them onto a single page with a dropdown for purchasing the various lengths? Think of how clothing retailers sell a pair of pants. They don't have one page for small, another for large, and another for extra large, right?
So, the idea here is to envision that you've got a single page for screws made by X brand and it has all of the different length purchasing options on it. Much easier for the customer. And, you can come up with some good content about this brand of screws. Is it aluminum or steel? Why is that good, in terms of durability? Is it made in the USA? Is it suitable to particular projects (appliance repair, home building, fixing screen doors?, etc.). Does it come with a satisfaction guarantee? Are there photos of the product? Videos of it being used? Consumer reviews of the product? Quotes from the boss?
If you can put all of this content once onto a single page instead of finding ways to repeat it on 20 pages for 20 different lengths of the same product, you're likely to come up with a much stronger page with a better chance of ranking well.

Meta descriptions are not direct ranking factors, but they help get people to click on your result in the search results pages.
Google will not necessarily use your description—it shows what it thinks is most useful to the searcher.
If I am searching for 1-3/4 inch Bugle-Head Coarse Thread Sharp Point Polymer Coated Exterior Screws, those are the words that will likely show up in the descriptions I see, regardless of what you write in the meta description header.
So be, well, descriptive in the meta descriptions and on the page.
Do some searches on the generic product you are promoting and look at a) what their meta descriptions look like and b) what you actually see when you search. (Try different search queries, ones you think your customers might use.)

Hi Guys, I know that is not good having any kind of duplicate content on your site, but SEO is above all "competition", so I have to see what my competitor are doing to find the best way to outrank them. So this is my question: is it good or not having site wide content like "why choose us" just above the footer on every single page? At the moment, I can see many - too many - of my client competitors having the "Why choose us" as site wide content above the footer. The funny thing they don't use a couple of sentences, they have placed many words and 10/20 internal links, in other words, they have enough stuff to put down a stand alone page. What do you think: this is just a bad SEO practice or it may work, as I can see so many sites ranking well with this kind of piece of junk on each page. I am not going to recommend this to my client, but as am trying to detail every decision I make showing what the competitors are currently doing, my concern is that my client finds it and therefore will ask to have the same shiny piece of garbage above the footer. Duplicate content issues - page content and store URLs
Hi, I'm experiencing some heavy duplicate content Crawl errors on Moz with www.redrockdecals.com and therefore I really need some help. It brings up different connections between products and I'm having a hard time figuring out what it means. It is listing the same products as duplicate content but they have different URL endings. My Site's Name Not Ranking in Google
Hey all, I've seen a few posts like this. But I wanted to start a new thread in hopes I may find the underlying issue. I've had my site: http://www.ctrl-alt-success.com for about 2 years. Recently I've started really adding a lot of content to it. (about 2-3 posts a week). I get zero organic views which is fine as I know it's still in the beginning. But here's my main question. If I type "ctrl-alt-success" into google. I get some site that shows up. "ctrlaltsuccess.com" I've been looking at this issue forever. That site has been "coming soon" for nearly 2 years. lol My site doesn't even show up on the first 10 pages of google. However in Bing and Yahoo it ranks on the first page. What could my site be doing wrong that it's not even ranking for the exact domain name? Keep in mind, if I google "ctrl-alt-success.com" my site comes up fine. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I know that creating original product descriptions is best practices. What I don't understand is how other sites are able to generate significant traffic while still using duplicate product descriptions on all product pages. How are they not being penalized by Google?

ECommerce Product Meta Descriptions vs. Product Descriptions
Wondering if using on-page product descriptions as the individual product meta descriptions is a best practice for an eCommerce site? Instead of writing two product descriptions (one regular and one meta), I am thinking if the product copy is SEO rich, we'd be good to use just the one for both purposes. Thoughts? Ideas? Do product pages need unique content or does having duplcate content hurt on those pages?
We are adding product rapidly to our website but this requires allowing duplicate to exist on our product pages of furniture-online.com. From an SEO standpoint do we need to make this content unique for each product. Since we aren't link building to specific product pages and we don't anticipate product pages being found in a search result, are we ok leaving the duplicate content in place and spending our dollars elsewhere?

Post Title - Use the blog's name or not?
In the tile of my post, shoudl I used my blog's name in it at the end or emit the blog name. EX: title of post with keywords | name of blog OR EX: title of post with keywords The site's name is 3 words long, so I'm worrying that those extra words are diluting the keywords in the post's name that I'm trying to target.
