Is having one blanket h1 tag across my site bad?
-
I've been working on figuring out if my site host (jigsy) is hindering my seo. The site editor doesn't allow me to assign individual h1 tags for each page, it just blankets one across the whole site as part of a theme.....is this normal?...would it be better to have individual h1s?....is that a thing? Or should I work on making a better one since all my pages should technically be related to counseling/therapy?
Site: www.joeborders.com

You Should have a self hosted website. Do not use Wix or Squarespace. SEO is terrible on these platforms.
-
What does the h1 tag say. The words... That's copy.
-
...but now I'm reading through their material on seo and it looks like they do support individual h1 tags for each page? lolol
-
you guys, I'm losing my mind lol. Just talked with a representative at Squarespace and he said they do the exact same thing! Is this something thats maybe not a big deal and I'm just worrying too much?
-
Ugh! this is what I've been trying to solidly figure out. I also just learned that they don't have any way for me to do redirects on blog pages and....soooo I've got all these old ones with bad permalinks Im stuck with.
This brings up another problem though, They are making it really difficult to move to another host. There is no way to transfer my site aside from doing something manually....and I'm afraid of messing up stuff that might damage my seo. What do you think?
by the way, my host is jigsy.com...a couple of times when I've asked them about something they have said they are on "ruby on rails"?
-
Change hosts as soon as possible!
If you don't you will shoot yourself when you finally find out how much traffic you are losing by not having each page optimzied with the proper title tag.
-
I'm not sure what you mean by the copy of the h1 tag the site is producing. My site address is www.joeborders.com
I contacted customer support at jigsy again today and they said I have no option about the blanket h1 tag and that their system uses all other headings as h2s. They did say that I can add additional h1 tags to the html code on individual pages....not sure if Google would hate me for this
-
You should have control over your h1 tags. What is the copy of the h1 tag that the site is producing? Is the site a wordpress site? You would not want to have just one h1 tag with the same copy for every page. The H1 acts like a title. It is the most important tag when it comes to SEO

Page Speed or Site Speed which one does Google considered a ranking signal
I've read many threads online which proves that website speed is a ranking factor. There's a friend whose website scores 44 (slow metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Despite that his website is slow, he outranks me on Google search results. It confuses me that I optimized my website for speed, but my competitor's slow site outperforms me. On Six9ja.com, I did amazing work by getting my target score which is 100 (fast metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Coming to my Google search console tool, they have shown that some of my pages have average scores, while some have slow scores. Google search console tool proves me wrong that none of my pages are fast. Then where did the fast metrics went? Could it be because I added three Adsense Javascript code to all my blog posts? If so, that means that Adsense code is slowing website speed performance despite having an async tag. I tested my blog post speed and I understand that my page speed reduced by 48 due to the 3 Adsense javascript codes added to it. I got 62 (Average metric score). Now, my site speed is=100, then my page speed=62 Does this mean that Google considers page speed rather than site speed as a ranking factor? Search visibility of website that only uses H2 tags - will not having H1 damage my visibility?
Excuse the basic question. I host my domain and website on Squarespace. I use a specific theme and after doing a site crawl of my site Moz picked up that Pages and Blog posts 'Missing or Invalid H1' tags (450 issues!). I discovered that my Squarespace theme only using H2 tags. Is this a serious issue that affects my search visibility? What would you recommend that I do to fix this, if anything? I'm starting some SEO and lnikbuilding, but wanted to see if this is an issue that I need to consider. Thanks!!!!

Would merging a site with strong DA with one that has weak DA be a smart move?
I am working on a project for a client that has two ecommerce sites each with several thousands of products. Site A has a strong DA, is ranking well on Google for thousands of competitive keywords and generating high traffic and conversions. Site B has a poor DA, ranking poorly and much less traffic. We are considering the idea of merging the 5,000+ product pages from site B into site A. How can we evaluate whether this would be a wise move with the least risk to site A?

How to create site map for large site (ecommerce type) that has 1000's if not 100,000 of pages.
I know this is kind of a newbie question but I am having an amazing amount of trouble creating a sitemap for our site Bestride.com. We just did a complete redesign (look and feel, functionality, the works) and now I am trying to create a site map. Most of the generators I have used "break" after reaching some number of pages. I am at a loss as to how to create the sitemap. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

How to handle mobile site with less pages than the main site?
We are developing a mobile version of our website that will utilize responsive design/dynamic serving. About 70% of the main website will be included in the mobile version. What (if anything) should be the redirect for pages not included in the mobile version of the site? Also - for one specific section users will be redirected from that page to the homepage, what is the redirect that should be used for this? Thanks!

Multiple H1 tags on same page
Hi Mozers I have a doubt regarding H1 tags. I know H1 tags will not give some special SEO value. But is there any issue if we are using multiple H1 tags on a same page? For example on the seomoz.org blog home page I saw 16 H1 tags (seomoz.org/blog). Is that ok to use like that? Can I completely ignore all my worries about H1 tags?

Do I need to add canonical link tags to pages that I promote & track w/ UTM tags?
New to SEOmoz, loving it so far. I promote content on my site a lot and am diligent about using UTM tags to track conversions & attribute data properly. I was reading earlier about the use of link rel=canonical in the case of duplicate page content and can't find a conclusive answer whether or not I need to add the canonical tag to these pages. Do I need the canonical tag in this case? If so, can the canonical tag live in the HEAD section of the original / base page itself as well as any other URLs that call that content (that have UTM tags, etc)? Thank you.

Redirecting a old aged site to a new exact match site?
Hi All, I have a question. I have 2 sites with me in the same sector and want some help. site 1 is a old site started back in 2003 and has some amount of links to it and has a pr 3 with some good links to it but doesn't rank much for any keywords for the timing. site 2 is a aged domain but newly developed with unique content and has a good amount of exact match with a .com version. so will there be any benefit by redirecting site 1 to site 2 to get the seo benefits and a start for link bulding? or is it best to develop and work on each site? the sector is health insurance. Thanks
