A tale of two pages - one ranks great and one doesn't - but they are set up the same way
-
Hi everyone,
First time poster
I will keep it simple - we have two pages on our website that are set up in the same way (or so we think) but achieve vastly different search engine rankings. We have spent weeks trying to figure out why this should be the case, but to no avail. Perhaps you guys can do a little diagnosis and see what we are missing:
for search term:
used machine tools
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools
Is working well for us.
for search term:
new machine tools
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools
is a disaster In  fact, Google ranks our home page which is optimised for other terms, higher.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Look at to your Search Console and see your backlinks and internal links
1 - search console > search traffic > links to your site
2 - search console > search traffic > links to your siteBefore to start an outreach stratege you have to make sure of accomplish all the technical seo tasks. Add Canonical Tags, internal link structure, header optimization an so on
What I'm traying to say is first improve your page (onsite optimization).
You have to optimize the page "New Machines " but you can not doit without optimize other ones. For me the best tool for that are semrush, moz, ahrefs and of course Search Console

I am assuming this is a matter of competitor and also internal/external links pointing to the particular page. I would increase the quality (add more unique content, pictures) of the unranked page, add some internal links to it, and re-index it with Google Search Console's Fetch and Render tool.

Hi Roman,
Yes - this seems more on the right track for me, as there are measurable differences for the pages based on the following metrics:
Links 2
Reffering Domians 2
Keywords 20
I will use the Moz tools to check these out. By way of further explanation as to why we are so stumped by this problem, here are two summaries of our analytics performance for the two pages over the same period - the differences seem unbelievable:
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools
284 sessions, 74.91% new sessions, Organic referrals 246
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools
5 sessions, 80% new sessions, Organic referrals 4
I will update the thread. Any other suggestions are welcome!

Hi Shalu,
Thank you for your answer. However, our competition, that we benchmark against, has far less content on page than we do. To make matters more interesting, this page:
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools
ranks second to the competitions page for the search term:Â used machine tools
but this page:
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools
ranks 51+ to the competitions number 1 ranked page for the search term: new machine tools
It's the sheer difference, when the pages are so very similar from a content structure perspective (they each focus on new or used machines of course) that I cannot understand.

I think that, a good outreach strategy, can make a big difference in your traffic and your authority, so you can create 10 or 20 post (can hire a freelance copywriters), very well written post, of course make the keyword research and then look for some guest post where you can send your articles with links pointing to your site.
-Buzzstream for me is the best tool for Outreach

Keep in mind to you have to find, I really useful website with the same level of your page, remember the anchor text of those links needs to be related with the topic and keywords of your page -
I have gone through your webpages and found that it has lack of quality contents in comparison to the pages that are ranking better than yours. The possible reasons for both of two could be high competition. You need to optimize your webpages as per the quality parameters.

Page authority questions?
I've been analyzing some IT communities ...in order to check how relevant is the page authority vs PageRank. I found one main site which is organized by "communities'..and every community is a sub-domain. The root domain has an authority of 90/100 which it should be great......so the sub-domains "inherit" part of this authority.... Until here everything seems to be perfect. However, I went deeper and I picked one of these communities. Analyzing the "Linking Root Domain" I discovered it only has only 5 root domains pointing to its home page. Those 5 Root Domains have generated more than 134k links. That doesn't seem to be "natural". Checking those 5 Root Domains I discovered that they have been registered by the same Root Domain site. Ex: Main domain: Domain.com Community1.domain.com Community2.domain.com.... Linking Root Domains:   DomainXY.com DomainABC.com DomainRST.com DomainFGH.com DomainOPQ.com It seems to me that it is easy to cheat  the authority domain score. Just creating others sites developing the same topic and generating back links to your main domain

Duplicate page reported in Wordpress site, but I can't find it in All Pages list
In a crawl report a duplicate page content warning has been displayed. The two urls are 1. http://www.superheroes.com.au/shop
Moz Pro | | Andyfools
and
2. http://www.superheroes.com.au/shop/category/catalog/ It's a WordPress site and I cannot find the second page anywhere in the list of All Pages in the Admin (I want to add canonicalisation code) When I view the 2nd page and click Edit Page, it redirects to the 1st page. Any ideas where SEOMoz would be finding this 2nd page or how it might be being generated? (btw I didn't build this site) Thanks Simon0 -
On Page Optimisation rankings keep yo-yo'ing
Hi All Can you please clarify this for me as its getting a little frustrating. Â I get the weekly reports from the SEO Pro campaign tool and from one week to the next it keeps changing the ranking. For example cheap a boards For this page I have a on page score of A through the campaign: http://www.cheapsnapframes.co.uk/cheap-a-boards.html Last weeks report showed it was an A and then I get this weeks snapshot after the crawl and its saying its now an F but when I click on the link on the onpage tool it then is showing me an A and then changes the ranking again on the campaign. I am seeing this a lot - why is it happening? thanks Tracy

Why does my crawl report show just one page result?
I just ran a crawl report on my site: http://dozoco.com  The result report shows results for just one page - the home page, but no other pages. The report doesn't indicate any errors or "do not follows" so I'm unclear on the issue, although I suspect user error - mine.

SEOmoz Crawl CSV in Excel: already split by semicolon. Is this Excel's fault or SEOmoz's?
If for example a page title contains a Ă« the .csv created by the SEOmoz Crawl Test is already split into columns on that point, even though I haven't used Excel's text to columns yet. When I try to do the latter, Excel warns me that I'm overwriting non-empty cells, which of course is something I would rather not do since that would make me lose valuable data. My question is: is this something caused by opening the .csv in Excel, or earlier in the process when this .csv is created?

Ranking better
Hello there, I am after some specific guidance on how to rank well for the keyword âTranslation Servicesâ. I have managed to get the site www.pstranslation.co.uk to page 2 of google UK for this key term. The difficulty is I seem to have run out of steam now on how to get higher rankings. After spending a considerable amount of time creating content and gaining links I managed to get the site from around page 15 on google uk to page 4 then to page 2. Thatâs where it seems to have stopped. I (think I) have got the onsite SEO pretty well nailed. I have got some good linkable content (http://www.pstranslation.co.uk/infog_languages.html,http://www.pstranslation.co.uk/language_resources_indus.html) and have plans to produce a more. Experience working within the language industry tells me that a top 3 position on page 1 for this keyword can very lucrative so my main focus of SEO is to rank well for this key phrase. There is a very good chance you reply will simply be get more (better) links and if it is thatâs fine but is there anything else I can do? Am I missing a very obvious trick anywhere? Looking forward to your reply.
