Why is the blog link so often found in the footer?
-
Hello,
Can someone tell me please why are the links to a site's blog not displayed prominently?
Why are they hidden away in the footer? Wouldn't making the link to the blog more visible increase traffic?

it is one of the link building strategies. Please want to take credit of design theme or do indirect advertising.

As per Gregory, I think it depends how prominent your blog is and the purpose it serves.
In my case the blog is quite prominent as we use it for a soft sell organic approach as the blog brings in a huge amount of organic traffic and is also a key area for our 100K strong mailing list whom we like to keep in touch with.
We also have active news pods pulling in content from the blog where appropriate and offers additional support information.
If you have a pure E-commerce site then it may dilute your offering and lead to a higher drop off, but in my instance we use it to build a stronger relationship with our customers who are in a once annual purchase cycle.
For many other sites, the blog/news content is simply just not seen as a key area of investment, hence why it may appear down the bottom.
Cheers
Tim

There are probably dozens of reasons, not that they are good reasons For my ecommerce sites it is because we want to keep the viewers (potential customers) focused on the product pages (where they can buy stuff)
The blog pages BRING a few people to the site, and that's good. But for the people who are already on the home or product pages, we don't need to show them that there is a blog available, we just want to keep them focused on shopping.

A colleague is embarking of her new years resolution to get in shape and is blogging about her experience, which has so far been successful. Can anyone suggest any good free blog directories where I can list her Blog? Or any other ways to market her blog? (she will be doing one post a week over the next 20 weeks)

How to encourage guest bloggers to link back
Hi, we have just started to allow guest bloggers on our site www.in2town.co.uk where we offer them two links within the articles, but what we would really like to do is to encourage them to link back to their articles. I am trying to find information on how we can encourage guest bloggers to link back and would love to hear your thoughts.

Typepad.com blog migration & duplicate content
I've migrated a typepad.com blog with a bunch of content (but little traffic) onto a hosted WordPress site under my own domain name (the way I should've done it in the first place). Now I don't want to confuse Google that the new site is duplicating content from the other site, so would I be better off with: 1) meta-refresh redirecting each typepad.com post to the same post on the new blog, or 2) just killing the typepad.com blog entirely so Google will not find duplicate posts anywhere. In favor of #2 is the fact that these posts get very little traffic today. I figure I will lose more traffic from duplicate content ranking penalties than from losing the posts themselves in the original blog. What do you think?
