Automatic links from other domains when we create a new landing page - Is this a spammy technique?
-
Hi everyone,
Recently we've discovered 2-3 sites (which we own the domains names) and these sites seem to automatically create links to our new landing pages on our main site. Those sites also can't be accessed in your browser as it redirects straight to our main website.
So, for example, we create a new landing page on our main site, and then Moz has been picking up links to this page from these other domains with text such as "Book now".
I think historically someone in the company set up loads of sites with redirects and there must be something automatically happening. Is this likely to be a spammy technique? Ie we seem to be getting "follow" links from other domains every time we create a new page."
Also as this could be quite a negative thing we've discovered I can't really give our out business links, but really appreciate your tips and advice.
I'm trying to work out what to do if this is a spammy technique and also affecting our trust scores etc and what we should do about it.
Thanks for your help and input.
Mike

Thanks very much Nick.
I will have a read of the article you sent and we're probably going to remove all the redirects and disable the domains that we're not using but are causing this to happen.
I think this setup was created years and years ago. Our rankings are generally good (page 1), but we ideally want to clean up our link profile.

Hi there,
Personally I would simple remove the sites from the server first before even considering disavowing; depending on how many links Google has crawled disavowing could be a massive time sink which doesn't actually yield any benefits...
There's some decent discussion around Disavow here in the era of Penguin 4.0 algorithm update: https://moz.com/blog/do-we-still-need-to-disavow-penguin
I can't verify this but by Google logic those dodgy links shouldn't be having any impact.
As per EGOL, I would definitely get to the bottom of how these are being created, you need to know where the server is or how they are being added.
If you can't do this and don't need any of the main wildcard redirects then simply find where the domain is hosting and remove the DNS entries which point to the server...
Good luck!
Nick

Thank you very much EGOL. Appreciate your input and suggestions! We'll be submitting disavows today as a first step.

I think that it is a very spammy technique.
First items of work.
-
submit disavows to Google
-
remove this trash from its servers

find out who did this. If a current staff member, I would consider their current worth to the company. If it is low I would be discharging them. If it is high, then I would educate them. If a SEO service provider did this I would cancel any current contracts and not do business with them again.

Tracking New Links
Hello, We are looking for tools to be able to track new links to one of our pages. I've explored OSE, Google Search Console, ahrefs, and Majestic. I've noticed that there is a delay in which new links are found; that not all the links are reported; and that many of these tools do not provide info on which links are new (vs. old). Are there certain tools you recommend over others to track new links as they come in? Any insights or best practices on link building tracking would also be much appreciated. Many thanks!

Low Page Authority for key landing pages
Hi guys - I am struggling to understand why I have a Page Authority of 1 (!) for most of my key product landing pages. All of them are linked to directly from the Homepage, which has PA 46 and DA 40. Many of them are also linked to from high ranking external sites. Less valuable pages on the site, with far fewer links, seem to have much higher PA. For some reason these just don't seem to be registering the link juice which is flowing to them. In fact, OSE doesn't seem to register any links for them - perhaps this is the biggest clue? I am at a bit of a loss. Some of these pages still rank highly for relevant keywords on Google. But something clearly isn't quite right. Has anyone experienced similar?

Why Links from Top Level Domains doesn't Pass Link Equity?
Hello, I have a doubt about Equity-Passing links report of OpensiteExplorer.org According to Sam Weber http://moz.com/community/users/432678 links which pass value from one page to another including followed 301 and Meta refresh links are under Equity-Passing links. I am surprising after looking at the links report generated by opensiteexplorer.org. Most of the article and directory links which have low DA and PA are under Equity-Passing links. Whereas websites like EzineArticle or Articlebase which have good DA and PA are not found in either Equity-passing links or under only nofollow category. Please suggest me if the report of Opensiteexplorer is not good enough or the links from the site like Ezine Article doesn’t pass the link equity. Thanks.

Links to main landing category page or links directly to products
I have an ecommerce website and a manufacturer is providing links directly to my website from their products pages because they do not sell directly online. What is my best linking juice power for this situation:

my.com/manufacture-A/brand1/product2
my.com/manufacture-A/brand2

--or something else? Thank you and I can provide more details if need be. Denny0 -
How long does it take for new links to show up?
Hi all, We just kicked off our first infographic to start a content marketing strategy: I'm wondering how long it will take for SEOMoz to add this to our link profile, and I suppose more importantly, how long it will take Google to recognize the links that have been generated from it. The response has been pretty good and I'm excited to see the results. Thanks!

Are Links/Resources pages considered spam?
I'm dabbling with link building in a non link-happy industry, traffic safety (IE Traffic cones, barricades, safety vests, etc...). We currently are doing #RCS in terms of giveaways for college students as well as discounts in a wider EDU Outreach campaign as well as legitimate guest posting. I have started to use Link Prospector, and got a list of links/resources pages that we can get info from. I found some great links through here, including ways to get links from higher-profile .gov domains, but was wondering if it is worth it to go after the high(er) quality links/resources pages. By higher quality, I usually set a floor of a DA 25-30 and have a limited amount of external links per page. These would be for branded keywords (IE the company name/domain) and not exact match anchor text. I'd really like to see how other SEOs feel about this. I have 87,636 links to my website from a single domain, is this bad?
Hi guys I have 87,636 links from one website, of which 75,189 of those link to my homepage using my website name as the anchor. Another has 29,811 links back to my website, again the majority of the links using my website name as the anchor. Is this a bad thing? Let me explain how this has happened - a company by the name of Daylife uses our RSS feed and distributes this to hundreds of their clients, which include indiatimes, usatoday, dallasnews etc, now I noticed that the majority of these websites all link back to our website with the same anchor text used several times on a single page. Attached is an example. Would this be a bad thing seen as the majority of these links have the same anchor text and link to my homepage? Looking at my GWT there is an estimated 183,373 backlinks that are all like this. Our traffic has dropped since Mr Panda hit and I am trying to find out if this could be adding to the problem. Thank you for you time links.jpg
