Domain authority of competitor went up drastically
-
Hello Moz community,
I’m following one of my competitors on Moz, and I noticed a huge bump in his domain authority overnight, going from 8 to 53.
I figured there must have been a reason for that, so I checked their links overview, and noticed they got tons of new external followed links, followed linking domains and total linking domains (see screenshot 1).
I clicked on the external followed links to see what they are, and I saw tons of redirect notices (see screenshot 2).
The links are from google:
And .fr is just an example, they have tons of other cctlds like .it .ca .es… the list goes on (see screenshot 3)
Do you know where these redirect notices are from? It may be worth noting that some of these redirect to the http version of his website, while others redirect to the https version.
I’m guessing this must be a bug on Moz’s end or some sort of SEO trick, but did his DA really go up that much, and does it positively affect his website or will Google penalize this?
Thank you in advance for your answers!

Make a list of the content pages that you could write that would be most valuable for your site visitors.
Start writing, don't look at DA for six months, do what is valuable for your visitor, create what they want, create what will help convert sales on your site.
Do you know that Google does not use DA? It is a Moz number. It will not win anything for you.
So instead of watching a number that means nothing, spend your time on content that will win your wars. The more you look at DA the less work you will get done.

His rankings are steadily going up for a few weeks now, but I haven't seen any particular change for the keywords we're tracking since I saw the links appear yesterday. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow's update to see the changes in rankings.
Please let me know if you would like more infos! Thank you or helping

How about the site's rankings, have they changed since you started seeing the links?
-
Well I'm not sure if it's a problem from Moz, I would just like to know why and how his domain authority could get increased this way
Since it's not my website, I'm not really looking for a way to fix this, just trying to understand
I will send a message to Moz support though just in case they have an answer

Someone else was asking about links similar to these and Staff asked them to email Moz support about it. Have you gone that route?

Get number of OUTBOUND link from a domain ??
Hello I´m doing some link profile audit and I noticed that there are some data that would be nice to know for a proper evaluation. The case is the following: Imagine I have a link coming from a blog, so (besides other factors) would be really great to know how many external links follow-nofollow this blog has. I dont mean external links pointing to them (what opensite gives you), what I would like to know is the total number of links this blog has pointing to other external websites. With this data, I would be able to guess in a better way if this blog is selling links or if is spammy. I would be able to know also how this blog/domain distributes its link juice and if the link gives me some value or if is dangerous. I have found some tools/sites but i just get the number of links a specific url has, not the domain info: Screaming frog (but the free version gives you almost nothing, link count checker, etc... ) Do you know any way to get this data in a domain level? You think this data would be important to decide about keeping a link or taking it out? Why none of the powerful tools of the market (opensite, majestic, etc...) provide this info? Many thanks for your help

Use 301'd Domain for a new campaign
Hello everybody, My company is getting ready to start a new mediacampaign on a very specific subject. The mediacampaign is not directly targeted at our core business, the goal is more to inform our customers about a subject and do a little branding for our company. A nice (and expensive) infographic was built that is going to be the core content of the campaign. We want the infographic to get shared a lot and therefore some of my colleagues want the url to be as short as possible. The idea is to host the infographic on a url on our companysite, but use a 301'd, shorter domainname in our communications. We are going to be getting a lot of links to this empty 301'd domain which does nothing else then 301 to our companysite. I know that linkbuilding to a 301'd domain is an old blackhat tactic, that's the main reason I don't feel good about this. But i can't really find any info on this subject.

Link building when your domain name is your head term.
Hello, I am working with a company that their domain name is the same as the head term. For example, if I was going for the head term coffee, and my site was coffee.com. This is specifically in the medical space, and i'm competing directly with Web MD and The Mayo Clinic, my advantage on the term is the EMD. We have a legitimate site with thousands of pages of relevant content, and I am starting a guest blogging campaign on relevant health sites. My real challenge is when I go for anchor text links should I ideally go for [head term] or [headterm.com] as the anchor text. Thanks in advance for your insights Zach

Link from or 301 Domains?
I have 3 domains that are in the same niche as my main site and not connected in any way. Now my question is should I just link to my main site from each of them on a page that is relevant to my main Keywords or should I 301 them to the site? I am thinking that building a link to my main site would have more effect than 301's. Thanks in advance!

9306 inbound links but onle 143 root domains?
I need help with my link building efforts so I have started to search around for companies and/or freelance contractors to hire. I always ask for examples of sites they are working on. In many cases the number of inbound links are high (9306) compared to the number of root domains that are linked to (143). Or as in this sample (120792) inbound links compared to (157) linking domains http://www.shortsalesafe.com. How can this be? To me the only logical answer is "link farms" or some other form of black hat magic. Am I right in my assumption, or is there another logical answer for so many links with so few linking domains.? Thanks Gary
