Sudden Drop from #1 to #12
-
Hello Moz community,
I am really happy to be here and I start right away with a quite tricky question I'd say.We are running Star-Registration.com and in March switched platforms to Shopify. All the Redirects etc were done according to standards.
Nevertheless, Star-Registration.com dropped in May (2 months after the switch) for "name a star" and "buy a star" from #1 to the 2nd Page of Google Results after being on #1 for almost 3 consecutive years. We had a similar case with their german website but the german one is back on the top 3 rankings again for all the important keywords.

Any suggestions? -
This can often be because of a major Google algorithm update that's rolling out, as sometimes, it might just be what is called ranking flux that makes your business move up or down in the serps.
After this your business might return to where it once ranked, but do consult with an seo agency for advice.
We had this with a garden room company that moved on to page 2 without any changes; it moved back onto page 1, and that was because of a major core Google algorithm update.

Looking at your results I would hazard a guess that you were affected by the Google core update Dec 3rd.
There was a major upheaval, I felt if too. All that can be done is to analyse your sites and read through why you may have been hit.
Take a look at the MOZ blog post here: https://moz.com/blog/googles-december-2020-core-update

I have over 12,000 permanent redirects. Is this okay?
Hey guys, I have moved my website to http://www to https:/www. I use a plugin called Really Simple SSL on Wordpress. Now I have 12,000 permanent 301 redirects. It seems like my whole site has been moved. Is this the right way to do it? I am quite new to SEO and I quite don't understand if this is good or bad. From my intuition, it seems like a lot of redirects for Google bot to crawl through. Is there a better way to move to HTTPS without all these redirects? Thank you. Paul

What will happen if we 302 a page that is ranking #1 in google for a high traffic term?
We're planning to test something and we want to 302 a page to another page for a period of time. The question is, the original page is ranking #1 for a high traffic term. I want to know what will happen if we do this? Will we lose our rank? Will the traffic remain the same? Ultimately I do not want to lose traffic and I do not want to 301 until it has been properly tested.

Enormous 7 page drop after switching servers and adding load balancers. Thoughts?
Hello Everyone, I'm a longtime Moz user but I had to switch accounts after switching jobs. I was hoping someone might be able to give me some insight on whats going on if possible. Our startup had first page position for our most valuable keyword: "Crowdfunding real estate" for about 6 or 7 months. Once we launched and switched to a production server behind load balancers, we dropped almost overnight to 7th page and we've been there for about a month. We don't have many links yet and some of the ones we DO have are kind of spammy (no idea where they came from and in process of trying to get them removed) but we thought it'd be strange to see that massive drop. We are even pages below a competitor who has NO links and basically zero content on the page. We don't have any notifications in WMT about a manual penalty or anything. I'd really, really appreciate any advice and If anyone has any ideas, the page is at: PatchofLand.com Thanks, Jason

Why the sudden link drop?
A the end of November I am showing that our total links were 118k. Current links are 22k. We changed sites early November so that was about three weeks before. What would cause the drop of about 100k links? Or where should I start investigating?

Sudden drop and Rise in SERPs
Our site was affected by panda but now we have recovered almost. But some strange things are going with our site for example Traffic for some pages has been dropped(over 100 position) overnight and recover. (graph is attached for a page). We have dropped(over 100 position) on all keywords for a page except a single keyword (staying on first or 2n position). Our home page is not ranking in top 100 position for title keywords. Is our website under any type of filter or penalized by Google?. What is your opinion about our internal link structure and content? URL http://bit.ly/rvxzDm and graph for this page is attached for sample data. looking for your opinion and suggestions. Thanks IXT0m.png

Site #2 beats site #1 in every aspect?
Hey guys, loving SEOMoz so far and will definitely continue my subscription after the free trial. I have a question however, which I am really confused about. When researching my primary keyword, I have found that the second ranked site beats the top site in every single aspect, apart from domain age, which is almost 6 years for the top one and 6 months for the second. When I say every single aspect, I mean everything. More authority for the page and domain, more links, more anchor text links, more authoritive links, more social signals, more relevant links, better domain (although second ranked site is a .net), better MozRank, better MozTrust etc.... I have noticed though, that in the UK SERPs, those sites are switched, so #2 is actually #1. Could it be that the US SERPs just haven't updated yet, or am I missing something completely different.

Why does this 1-page doorway rank #2?
Search on "santa cruz custom cabinets." In my SERPs, I'm seeing exact match santacruzcustomcabinets.com rank #2. This is a 1-page site provided by Yellow Book as part of an ad it sold to this cabinet shop. The site has no other pages, no inbound links, etc. So much for Google saying it's going to turn down the meter on exact match domains because that's all I see this website, if you want to call it that, has going for it. what do you see? Why is it ranked so high? Why is it above the site below it for example? And why doesn't Google lower the boom on Yellow Book for these doorway pages? Thought you'd all find this interesting. Any comments?

Why DBDResults.com is #1 on Google for "Internet Marketing Agency"?
They have a new site, no links, no content, their page isn't optimized for this keyword (it's not even one on the page or their page title)... They only have 5 incoming links with the keyword in it, but its competitors have way more. Can someone solve this mystery?
