How To Encourage Google To Discover Links?
-
I got a valuable backlink from a high authority website (MSN), but the link is placed in the middle of a slideshow with 20 pictures, and the only way to reach it is by clicking through the slideshow.
After 6 months, this link still hasn't been noticed by Moz or Semrush, and I assume Google hasn't seen it either, because it's in the middle of a slideshow.
Is there any way to encourage Google to find this link? Or am I all out of luck?

PageRank is a Google metric, which underpins their search engine. It's likely evolved since it was last publicly available, around a decade ago. When people say it's not used anymore, they tend to mean that it's not publicly visible anymore, or that Google is using some improved (renamed?) equivalent.
Page Authority is the equivalent Moz metric, which measures the strength of a page, and can be used as a proxy for PageRank. Obviously, being a Moz metric, it isn't used in Google's algorithm, but it's still useful to SEOs to estimate the value of a link. I must admit that Page Authority as a metric can be a little imprecise for new or undiscovered pages, though, which is unfortunate for your use case - similarly to Google, we initially guess the strength of a previously unseen page, before properly calculating it.
Domain Authority is another Moz metric but for evaluating domains rather than pages. Domain Authority attempts to answer the question "all things being equal, how likely is a page on this site to rank?". It's not very useful for evaluating links or pages though, because most sites have pages of vastly different strengths between their various pages. Again, being a Moz metric, Domain Authority isn't used by Google.
The two articles you link seem to support this distinction, but if you've found a Moz page that says otherwise, let me know, and I can get it updated.

Thanks, but I'm actually more confused.
Pretty much every SEO resource I can find on the internet (including Moz) says Domain Authority counts for much more than PageRank, and PageRank apparently isn't even used anymore now.
Here are two examples:

Unfortunately, this stumbles upon a common misconception with "high authority links".
The website (MSN) may be a high authority domain, but it's the strength of the page that links to you that counts, not the strength of the domain. Google's original PageRank methodology is based, as the name suggests, on using pages as nodes to estimate the prominence of other pages and their links.
As such, the fact that Google, Moz, and other tools may not have discovered this link, likely means it isn't a valuable link in the first place - despite the domain it's placed on.
That said, there are ways of forcing tools to discover links. For example, you could link to this page prominently on your own site. Really though this would achieve very little, unfortunately.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Is it worth buying an entry on Wikipedia-type sites?
Recently I've come across a few websites offering (for a fee) to research, write and publish an entry on the likes of Wikipedia, Citizendium or Wikitia - I thought this might be helpful when it comes to marketing and link building for a brand or individual. Purchasing guest blog posts is a standard way to obtain a high domain authority in-context backlink, but I wondered if purchasing an entry on one of these human edited encyclopedias would be as effective, better or not worth the money? It costs quite a bit more than guest posting and blog outreach, but on the other hand they are authoritative websites that also include backlinks. Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Do You Risk A Penalty From Local Paid Directories in 2022?
Hi there, I have a client who wants to advertise in a local directory along the lines of "find your nearest plumber". The directory only has paid listings and they are follow links and they also mention your site or generated landing page may get a nice bump on google. Is there a risk that they may get a penalty for using this directory? The client wants to use it regardless of if it gives them an SEO boost but obviously wants to avoid any penalties at all costs. Thoughts on this? Thanks in advance

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

Google Webmaster Tools Message regarding unnatural links - how to respond
I acquired a small website which was subsequently hit by Google Panda for unnatural links. Since the previous owner was involved in the link building, I'm not sure what to look for. Here's the message I received from Google: ** Message from Google ** "We've reviewed your site and we still see links to your site that violate our quality guidelines. Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass pagerank or participating in link schemes. We encourage you to make changes to comply with our quality guidelines. Once you've made these changes, please submit your site for reconsideration in Google's search results. If you find unnatural links to your site that you are unable to control or remove, please provide the details in your reconsideration request. ** End Message from Google ** I'm not sure how to locate "unnatural links" when there are so many pointing to the site. For example, are there specific domains I should look for that are known offenders? Or, should I look for sites that are using obvious anchor text that seems orchestrated? Any insights would be appreciated on creating an action plan. Jerry

How to improve (ASAP) the linking root domain, the followed linking root domains and the linking C-Blocks? Linkbuilding (or whatever) techniques.
I have a small site (.com) like any website in my sector. 30-90 pages. I have no crawls errors. Everythings is fine, just I need to improve my linking root domain, the followed linking root domain and the linking C-Blocks. Example: my competitors have 300 (one of them have 1300) of total links. I have 30. Anyone know some good strategies? techniques? tips? I just dont want to be in a farm directory, I want free links. I'm already running two strategies but it works so slowly. I want something faster at this moment. Also, any recommendation will be thankful.
