Preserving Authority of closed website
-
Hi,
I have the opportunity to acquire a domain of a company that is closing in a similar industry who currently have a decent Authority - 51DA, 5,752 Linking Domains.
I cannot do anything with the new business yet but if I acquire the domain the existing website will turn off.
If I crawl the existing site and 302 redirect all pages to a holding page on said domain, will that preserve authority while I start the new business and build the new website and like-for-like pages?

@seoman10 I'm still a newbie here most of the SEO strategy here is getting me confused
I read some articles saying some link building can turn to spam how will I really know where to paste my links and when not to ...
Heres my site very young -
Short answer is probably not. Search engines have long since got wise to such tactics. For instance Google have their own closely guarded method of calculating authority, this has a reset mechanism for the very sort of situation you are talking about.
Expired domain link building is a very old tactic, I believe it did used to work many moons ago but Google has got wiser and a lot cleverer.
The only safe option is to acquire the domain and website from the company before it expires.

Domain forwarding or 301 redirects?
I have two domains and one of them is being phased out. Currently, there are some 301 redirects in place for the main pages but I was wondering if it would be better / easier to just set up domain forwarding? I can't seem to find anywhere that tells you the "type" domain forwarding, is it 301? 302? etc. Thanks,

I have a question from SEO experts and web developers.
I want to setup a job website for 5 countries. for each country i will provide daily jobs listing on the basis of
1. jobs by categories - for example : accounting jobs. IT jobs, Sales jobs
2. jobs by city - for example : jobs in boston, jobs in chicago
3. jobs by companies for example : jobs in facebook, jobs in emirates case :
a company name " emirates " located in "boston" having vacancy of "accounting job " having position of full time this case job will be present in following categories . 1. accounting jobs in boston
2. jobs in boston
3. jobs in emirates and open any above option there will be filter box on left side showing
position i.e full time
salary i.e 1000-1500
location i.e boston,chicago Q.1
i want to know when user search on google these terms "accounting jobs in boston " or "jobs in boston" or "jobs in emirates" same job will display which url structure is recommended in for each search term? Q.2 how we can do on page SEO for these terms because jobs listing will be changing daily because of new jobs addition and content is changing not Q.3 should i create website on separate domains for each country or same domain but with different folders in it
.co.uk or com/uk for UK and .ae OR .com/uae for UAE Note : i will also attach blog on it and each blog will focus on specific country knowledge for example for USA , how to find jobs in new york and for UAE how to find jobs in Dubai etc . Thanks in Advance0 -
Removed Product page on our website, what to do
We just removed an entire product category on our website, (product pages still exist, but will be removed soon as well) Should we be setting up re-directs, or can we simply delete this category and product

Big Mess - Multiple Websites
I have a customer, a Psychologist, who put up +/-20 websites many years ago. He has 1 main site (with his name as the domain) with hundreds of pages of quality content. The other sites are all exact match domains - anxiety counseling, couples counseling, etc. Some are single page sites, others have a good amount of quality content. Many of the EMD sites were getting ranked on the first page, as was the main site. The money site was ranking on the first page for the best keywords All of the EMD pages linked back to the main site, many with site wide footer links. The main site did not link back. All of the sites are on the same IP address. These sites have been in place for years. I don't believe that he has a duplicate content problem. About 8 weeks ago, the rankings for the main site crashed, moving 10 or more SERP pages deep. The EMD sites are still ranking. He has not gotten any nasty-grams from Google in Webmaster Tools. The Psychologist relies exclusively on organic for his business, and it has taken a significant hit. 1. Has anyone else seen this happen? 2. Is it safe to assume that Google finally nailed him for using a linking scheme? 3. How can we unwind this? The other sites are still generating business, and if those go away, he is really screwed. 4. Will taking down all of the links from the other sites be enough? Would moving the money site to another hosting company on a different IP make a difference? Ideas? I think the white hat answer would be to take down the EMD sites, and 301 redirect to the main site. The problem is that the loss of business from this process could be catastrophic.
