Search shows site links, but not hyperlinked?
-
2 of our competitors on Google have site links show in their results which brings you to that specific page. In our listing we show up with the same results a few spots behind them with our site links visible showing very similar content, but are not actually hyper linked.
Is there a way to fix the issue and let people actually be able to click on our site links instead of just reading them?

Forgot about this for a few days, thanks for the reply!

Sorry, either I read that wrong or was mixed up your source with a competitor while reviewing the question - I'm not seeing missing quotes now.
I'm wondering if the dual class designation for "url event_link" is causing a problem. It's something pretty finicky, I'm afraid, because sites with a very similar structure seem ok, even ones with two links to events.
For example, this site actually has a pretty weird linking structure (they link to the teams individually, but the team text still shows up linked in the snippet):
http://www.gotickets.com/sports/nfl/afc/new_england_patriots.php
Might be a good benchmark to use.

Peter,
So we have simplified the summary classes, however quoting looked okay so we were scratching our heads with that one. Would you be able to call out an example where we are not correctly quoting our attributes?
Thanks for all the help.

Thanks Peter,
I am new at ace so I will be sure to bring this to our back-end devs attention. Excellent find and thank you very much. If it all works out I will let you all know the results.

These aren't regular site-links - you appear to be using the hCalendar microformat. I'm guessing there's just a validation problem. I notice you're not quoting ("") your attributes in the table. While the browser may read that ok, it's probably screwing up the microformat.
You've also got 2 "summary" classes for each event. It can get a bit tricky, and the specific code for any given site is a bit tough to tackle in a Q&A, but I'd see if you can add back the quotes and simplify the structure a bit. I strongly suspect your code isn't validating and the microformat is being parsed wrong.

Not sure if you saw the action on this, decided to reply directly:
Thanks for the replies, unfortunately these site links do not show in webmaster tools (sorry I did not mention that in the last post)
To see what I am referring to you can check out:
Currently we are top of page 2 (aceticket) for the query "patriots tickets". Futher down the page you will see competitors with these links working and on Page 1 you will see 2 of the big guys (stubhub & ticketcity).
The only thing I have found that we do different from these guys is having our actual event pages use underscores instead of hyphens (top layer pages of ours use hyphens). That would lead me to believe that was the issue, but then I looked further down page 2 and saw a competitor using underscores and having these links be active.
I am new to Ace and I have not seen something like this happen for SEO results so I am not sure how to handle it.
Thanks for the help!

To demote a sitelink URL:
- On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
- Under Site configuration, click Sitelinks.
- In the For this search result box, complete the URL for which you don't want a specific sitelink URL to appear.
- In the Demote this sitelink URL box, complete the URL of the sitelink you want to demote.
Once you've demoted or undemoted a sitelink, it can take some time for search results to reflect your changes.

Stephen, I think I'm following you, but I want to be sure... is there a way you can send a link to show an example of what you're referring to?
(If it's regarding the mega-links, there is way to exert some control of what site-links appear, or, rather, what you don't want to appear through Webmaster Tools.)
Thanks,
W

Non ecommerce site with high DA, being outranked by lower DA sites with ecommerce - help?
I have a website that we look after, up until January this year the rankings were really strong - the site has a much higher domain authority than the competitors, much more links and much more relevant content (all measured with moz's tools). About 6 months ago the rankings started to dive for national search terms. Now one thing ive noticed is that nearly all of the other sites in the search sell products online where we have no such function - could this be correlated - has anyone else experienced this?

Why has my authority article gone from P1 to below the top 50? Along with the rest of my site...
My site has run into some serious and unexplained SEO issues over the last 6 months, i.e: I wrote the content at http://www.flatroofs.co.uk/flat-roof-insulation/ about 3-4 years ago, and ever since it's competed for position with the huge PLC websites and hovered around the top 3 spots in google.co.uk. However, since May this year things have declined rapidly and now isn't even in the top 50 for [flat roof insulation]! Why?? I am aware that this content has been pretty heavily plagiarised since day 1, with some other sites making the effort the 'rehash' my wording and others just blatantly copying. At the same time it's also been relatively well linked to (for a very boring subject) since day 1. Over the same period (since May) the site has suffered a huge decline in traffic and rankings, as can be seen here http://www.flatroofs.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Capture.png, but I find the huge drop harder to justify for a relevant article than for the homepage/site in general. What strikes me about the above is the two step changes in traffic volume; one in early June and the other in late October. I am vaguely aware of the penguin update etc, but it seems to me like I've been manually banished somehow? Thanks in advance for any advice!

How on earth is this site ranking so highly?
I'm trying (& struggling) to rank for the keyword property in italy. Yet in the past 5 weeks I've seen this site -- betterpropertyitaly (dot) com -- rocket from about #30 to #2 for the keyword and am trying to figure out why. The obvious is that it's in the domain name, but that can't be the be-all-and-end-all, surely? It's a 2 yr 9 mth old site, so why the sudden spurt? I look in Open Site Explorer and the metrics look pretty weak: Domain Authority: 17 Page Authority: 29 Linking Root Domains: 9 Absolutely zero social shares. Good luck to him and all -- but I'm trying to figure out what he's doing right and I'm not. My site apart, he's beating some pretty big-hitters.

Confused about sites ranking when compared to each other
I'm looking at the keyword "snow guards" for two competitor websites: snogem dot com (SG) snoshield dot com (SS) I've been watching these two for about 4 months. SG stays in the top 5 SERPs consistently, while SS bounces around from 15-20 on Google. I've looked at the competitive link comparison and SS appears to have a much better link profile when it comes to DA. Page specific metrics in OSE show SS with a higher mozrank, moztrust, internal followed links, linking root domains, total linking root domains, and linking C Blocks. It appears to me that SG has many more links, but their links seem to be many site wide exact match keyword links, and paid for advertisements on a major site in the metal roofing industry. Honestly the linking profile of SG surprises me that they rank so much higher than SS after the Panda/Penguin updates. I have two questions: 1. When competing against these sites, should I model SG's link profile? I'm nervous to because of my previous statement thinking they will get hit with Panda/Penguin like updates. 2. What would it take to bounce SS to competing with SG on the first page? Is the number of links the only thing this site is missing, or is there something else to focus on.

Looking for a recommendation for a site ranking comparison tool.
Hi, It seems that SEOMOZ provides only link ranking comparison with competators. I'm not conviced that this is valuable for my purposes as the comeption often has few links tool, probably the nature of the business.. First, is it worth trying to compare keyword ranking with competators? I think it is, but I'm not that experienced with SEO, especially with Wordpress/Buddpress sites. Second, any recommenations for a tool that will make this easier? Larry

Does InAnchor count partial match links?
Here is what Google says about the InAnchor operator. I am curious to know if this will show results with exact match or partial match anchor text. Does anybody know?
