This might do what you want http://apps.shopify.com/power-tools-bulk-edit-tags
The TLD you use can be worth money as far as SEO I would take .com homebuilder.com over a homebuilder.construction every day.
the power to point a .com .net .org at the country of your choice is a big SEO plus
if you can get the .com it is still #1 in the US at least.
Tom
I don't know how much knowledge your person that's going to be doing the fixing has on WordPress.
I do know that to fix the issues that are going to be brought up in Moz reports; you have a lot of information here. https://moz.com/academy & https://moz.com/learn/seo
My best advice is to check out https://distilled.net/u/
Yes it is something they might have to watch they can learn from reading, and doing on the site and skip to whatever topic they need to brush up on in order to fix the issue at hand
Check out https://www.distilled.net/u/interactive-html/ That is used one of many modules found in https://www.distilled.net/u/home/ Distilled University they have some fantastic tips for both search and HTML.
Distilled U will give you the basics on HTML that you need for search engine optimization, and I would say that is one of the best resources and possibly have.
But if you're doing search engine optimization and you want to learn about HTML, they are an excellent resource.
If you need help with SEO
There is also a company called Credo https://www.getcredo.com/ Both Moz & Rands new company Sparktoro, recommend credo it’s owned by John Doherty They can match you with the right person or agency.
You may also want to want to chat with John himself https://www.johnfdoherty.com is available to hire for consultation at his website look.
For the development side of WordPress
Is a fantastic resource for WordPress and PHP all website development if you combined the resources along with the resources you have here at Moz
Depending on the theme that you are using you could use information from companies such as woothemes.com or copyblogger.com studiopress.com
http://yoast.com covers almost 100% WordPress
http://www. performancefoundry.com/
It is a true WordPress Development expert and offers the ability people to call in, and you will walk them through the problem.
http://www.evolvingseo.com/services/consultant/
Another true WordPress and SEO expert is Dan Shure
he offers phone-based consulting as well.
I can tell you without a doubt he knows what he's talking about I just ran into him at Searchlove Boston a fantastic conference that is worth its weight in gold. Dan also has a series of videos with search and WordPress tips.
https://www.distilled.net/events/searchlove-boston/schedule/
I also offer similar consulting for WordPress and search engine optimization.

I don't mean to sell you because everyone I've listed is fantastic because I love the subject are talking about I threw my hat in the ring.
One thing you can do that will save you a lot of money is using a managed WordPress hosting company.
By utilizing a company that specializes WordPress as well as hosting, you get access to people that have an extensive knowledge of WordPress.
I would recommend looking at Pagely.com Pantheon.io ,Presslabs.com ,Getflywheel.com WPengine.com Kinsta.com or Pressidium
The lowest cost starts at $15 a month with Getflywheel and is a great deal. The average cost is around $24 to $30 a month Pressidium offers a lot for $25 a month all of them have the ability to save you a lot of time and money with WordPress specific questions. One of the very best is PressLabs.com their prices start at $150 a month however they are extremely good answering any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Thomas
Honestly without seeing the site or the links that you are talking about for me to tell you yes or no is impossible.
Unless you told me that you have purchased these links then I would disavow them.
It seems that if you're not concerned then it should not be an issue.
Are the links relevant to your site?
Are the links from any sites that have a strong domain rank?
Are any of the links no follows? (if so don't worry about them.)
If there forms and blogs that are related to your site that does not make them inherently evil. Nor does it make them so bad that they must be disavowed if they're just from any form or blog.
However if it there in any way shape or form set up to trick Google into ranking your site higher than it is then that's one worry about.
I imagine Google is taking its time indexing your site I am certain that as long as the no index, no follow you are correctly in place that when you're site is indexed, and Google's cache expires and then reflects the change you will see the difference as well. You can check on the last time Google indexed your sites pages that you have no index no followed by first going to Google than inside the search bar typing in cache:http://example.com/noindex-page/
I have done this with Moz.com and you'll see an outcome like this below for your site. As you can tell this means the homepage for Moz has not been indexed in two days Google indexes more popular higher page rank sites more often than newer or I not as popular sites. So look at the date when it says this snapshot of your page has appeared on
This is Google's cache of http://moz.com/. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on Mar 7, 2014 21:17:30 GMT. The current page could have changed in the meantime. Learn more
Tip: To quickly find your search term on this page, press Ctrl+F or ⌘-F (Mac) and use the find bar.
Hope that helps,
Thomas
Hi
I would use
https://moz.com/researchtools/rank-tracker
the Max a day 0 of 200 rankings checked today.
is lets you put in keyword domain or url & you get the rank
hope this helps,
if for whatever reason the Moz tool is not what you're looking for. As far as the API goes and scripts I'm sure there are quite a few out there if you Google them
Thomas
Hi John & Matt,
Matt did a great job of giving you the links to how to use the tools. I thought one thing that might be helpful if it's your first week is running a crawl test it comes back a lot faster than running a campaign it just hit me that it might be of use to you here's the link you simply place your domain into The box and it will email you the crawl test showing any errors with the website very useful tool for quite a few things.
I love crawl test that Matt recommended it's a very good thing to start off with
https://moz.com/researchtools/crawl-test
I think any as he should have one additional tool in their toolbelt and it's free this is a great tool that spoken about quite a bit by Moz & I added a guide that is very helpful just something I thought would be helpful to anyone conducting seo
I use it with screaming frog SEO spider
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
Free for the base 500 pages
&
http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/screaming-frog-guide
I think it's a real help with the use of the Moz tools (they are the best) this just adds to it.
All the best,
Thomas
If you want to learn all there is about SEO I would go to Moz.com/perks then find https://www.distilled.net/u/
As you can save on the cost you can also
With a Distilled U membership it can be paused meaning you do not pay when when not using it. I believe the cost is around $40. And you get 25% off with Moz perks The amount of knowledge that you get access to finish into the videos alone worth $400 each that you have full access to our well worth it
The fact that it is so complete and allows you to take tests that you own speed that require you actually learn what you have seen and read I found it to be fantastic.
Combining Moz Academy with
Distilled.net/U
Is probably the most powerful way to learn
http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo
These are other places I would look to strengthen my knowledge on search
Please continue asking me as many questions as you like I am more than happy to answer them I really do enjoy it. When you mentioned that you were learning a lot from the SEER blog I thought this would help you as well.
Sincerely,
Thomas
**I will send you a private message Please look for it by going to the top right of the screen and seeing the little person in line with the hourglass click on the little person you will see private messages then you'll be able to check them. **
_1) I will keep growing FAQ in its current format. On my Blog I will make a Wistia video out of the FAQ and from the FAQ I will link to the Blog Video matching the FAQ. _
I would not continue to grow what's going to be duplicate content it would be much better if you simply answered the questions with the video and transcription via blog. So I have a question I go to your FAQ which stays in the same place it is now instead of clicking the question and having the answer popped down it takes me to the video/text answer on your blog. If you do not do it this way you will build up way too much duplicate content and your FAQ will work just fine by being a link to your blog ( interlinking to relevant content adds a lot of power to your site) if you are going to continue adding to the FAQ it should just be links to the answers on the blog.
2) "Speech Pad" is there a tool which automatically gives me the content spoken accurately or how does it work?
The speech tool is extremely accurate it is performed by real human beings, and the pricing varies on how long you want to wait. For instance they charge by the minute and if you want to wait more than 24 hours it gets a lot cheaper.
on whiteboard Fridays when normally Rand or another guest speaker does a presentation every Friday they use
Video transcription by Speechpad.com
you can even take a look by going to one of the whiteboard Fridays and looking at the bottom of the text underneath the video
http://moz.com/blog/weighting-the-clusters-of-ranking-factors-in-google-analytics-whiteboard-friday
Google and human beings like the ability to read if it's an option. Especially the deaf a group that is left out of a lot of websites using video unfortunately but remember Google wants you to have an accessible site for everyone so if it's handicapped accessible it's not only good for and user it's also great for you because of the text it creates and the proof that you are trying to make the end-user experience the best you can.
I would only use the 2nd level in the pricing I would not consider using just translate because you want to have it captioned inside the video as well.
I would use their "Standard Captions"
https://www.speechpad.com/offerings/services/compare
https://www.speechpad.com/captions
Wistia Has their own tool that is described
Upload your own time-coded captions or have us create one. Then, display as captions on top of the video. The captions text will be included with the embed code to help with SEO. "
_3) I will 301 redirect sub-domain current blog posts to new URL's in sub-folder. _
_ exactly you will_
http://white.net/noise/5-wordpress-seo-subdomain-to-subfolder-migration-steps/
http://pixert.com/blog/moving-wordpress-blog-from-a-subdomain-to-a-subfolder/
Who is your hosting provider? this matters because some will do it for you others will not.
4) http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/100-panda-recovery-what-we-learned-to-identify-issues-get-your-traffic-back - this was a GREAT read. Easy to understand and makes sense. I liked concept of linking to deep pages, as way to often we all focus on inter-linking to BIG keywords, which isn't always most natural way…
Interlinking is a fantastic method of getting link juice to flow through your entire site and helping users navigate your site more easily. It's a win-win
there is a tool called scribecontent.com you can get it for free if you use websynthesis.com as a WordPress host however you can just buy the plug-in it really does wonders.
_5) I have a LOT of "read more" which expands when clicked on. It is best for user as you can see here: http://www.honoluluhi5.com/kahala-homes-real-estate/ - do you see that as a potential issue? _
I would make it more conspicuous because you want readers to be able to understand what's going on. I would not have known personally that page had a read more because of its placement it's very small, and it's on the top right most "read more" links are at the bottom of a page and you easily find them because when you're done reading you click read more. I would restructure that or make the link into a button that is much more conspicuous
** the feed the bot tool was able to find your text however I found some pretty big problems your developers decided to make one of your photographs 3000 pixels?**
** that's crazy it's just going to slowly down, and it's a very bad idea to make oversized photographs you need to make the photographs the exact size that they should be. 3000 pixels is too large for almost any monitor in the world except for those ridiculously sized 4K monitors if you use Google analytics you'll see most people use under 1200 pixels total width in their entire monitor**
** another issue is that they failed to use alt text properly or put it in**
** take your URL that you gave me and put it into this**
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/alt/
http://www.honoluluhi5.com/kahala-homes-real-estate/
** you will find that the developers did not put alt text in and when they did they sometimes made it 9 words it needs to be a very short quick description of a photograph**
"
Above image has 12 words in the alt text.
The ALT text of this image appears to be following the Google guidelines, but has a lot of words. You may want to ensure the ALT text is describing the image, not just repeating key words."
You have a problem with your developers why would they put something like this in your site?
** then you have this issue it's a big one it looks like they're trying to profit by getting Google plus clicks for themselves on your website I've seen people put their URL on a sight built by so-and-so but a pop-up Google + wow if that was put there by your developers to give them Google + points you should call them and ask them exactly how that will benefit your site to have them put something that is against Google's guidelines on your website so that the developer ranks and you don't? I would be very upset with them if this is the case. Look at the screenshot below.**
http://f.cl.ly/items/3x451j0F0z1n1T411l40/Screen Shot 2014-02-16 at 3.51.24 AM.png
and another big problem
sorry to have to tell you this really quickly your using Wistia and not using its SEO/ super embeds therefore your not allowing Google to see that you have a video therefore no ranking for videos in Google you need to go into to Wistia and go into the embed choice choose SEO embed and place that where you have an i frame something that cannot be read by Google
<iframe src="<a class="webkit-html-attribute-value webkit-html-resource-link" href="http://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/76kiexp41x?videoWidth=728&videoHeight=435&videoFoam=true" target="_blank">http://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/76kiexp41x?videoWidth=728&videoHeight=435&videoFoam=true" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" class="wistia_embed" name="wistia_embed" width="728" height="435"></iframe src="<a>
you have a choice and your choice should always be SEO embed for your own website with the ability to allow people to copy your IFrame embed because they will simply drive links back to your website if they put it on theirs
look at a screenshot I just took of one of my Wistia accounts see how you have the choice this is how you should choose
http://f.cl.ly/items/2E0Y3u441k3f3A2I1E1T/Image%202014-02-16%20at%203.21.05%20AM.png
I hope I have answered everything.
Sincerely,
Thomas
You do have some links pointing at your blog only 3
here is a copy of every link in your blog and a full export using the paid version of screaming frog so you have all the benefits of knowing exactly what your link structure was.
This URL on giving you will only be good for 5 clicks and the last one week so other people can not download your site. I should tell you that when I say your site I mean your blog that's the only thing that I crawled. Please be certain to put this in a safe place all to the MajesticSEO pack links which I could not find any of however the majestic SCO bucket I set up is here too.
https://blueprintseo.sharefile.com/d/s67080b684264c5c9
we are going to have to redirect the old URLs to the new URLs please read this article about architecture problems caught early we do want to redirect old URLs to point to the new URLs
http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/architecture-issues-caught-early
because redirects are so easy I would also use one of the best Permalink redirect tools
https://yoast.com/wp-content/permalink-helper.php
Here is the main redirect page where that tool is found a little tip you can use the URL above to go directly to the tool or you can simply right-click on it and have it open in a new tab if you're using chrome otherwise it will show up as a white window. I checked it on other browsers
https://yoast.com/change-wordpress-permalink-structure/
you can put in your old URL and as the example shows that in your new URL at way Google will not give you 404 problems, and they will be happy please understand your new links will be 200's they will just have additional links pointing to them from where they were before this is the best way to do it.
sincerely,
Thomas
If you feel that they belong in the FAQ and as an individual blog post that you're going to add your own unique content for People using the blog and would like to use your FAQ answers in order to enhance the blog. I can tell you the only thing that would be confusing is to go to a site and try to find something then find it twice. However if you believe in yourself and the visitors shoes you would prefer to have a layout like that then yes it's okay. Google will only give you credit for the content in your FAQ once that's it after that it's not worth anything to Google. So it will index your blog and give credit to your FAQ therefore your added information could benefit the blog of your and you're saying well even though it's already on the website it would benefit the end user if I had into places on my website I would say yes do it
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty.html
I noticed you are already using Wistia, and I would suggest using "speech pad" to have your Wistia videos become even more viable by pasting the content spoken about in the video below the video.
I agree it looks like your developer had yet to add the text the feedthebot.com tool is very good at figuring out rather not it can be read by Google and from what it tells me it will deftly be read and indexed by Google.
I want to say that I think you should 301 redirect just because if you're blog has been indexed by Google it will be a hard 404 meaning it will show up in your Webmaster tools, and it only makes sense 301 redirect the old link to your new link. It will not take away from the value in any way it will only add to it. And if you keep track of your links which you should do then you can set up the redirects very easily.
can I ask you if you are doing most of the work on the site?
the reason I ask is if you are there is a fantastic tool you should probably be using right now screaming frog SEO spider has a free version it will index 500 pages and a paid version which in US dollars is about $160 that will index your, entire site all the links will be there for you to have, and you will not worry about site architecture issues when you make the change to the new structure.
here is an example of what you can do and if you do download it which I recommend you get the free one no matter what use this guide with it
http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/screaming-frog-guide
you can download it for Mac, PC and Linux free here
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/screaming-frog-guide#How_to_rewrite_the_crawled_URLs
If you like I have the paid version I can crawl your site and send you the entire link profile?
lastly can I ask would it make sense to simply have a brief description under the FAQ with a link to the blog for the full text?
I realize it sounds like you're going to be adding to this FAQ and you want to be very easy for people to use. Clicking on the accordion like drop-down is not much harder than clicking on something that takes you to a new page and answers the question there. Then put a large call to action allowing them to return to the FAQ that's what I would do however if you would like to have your blog on their it will not destroy your site because you will be creating a lot of unique high-quality relevant content that will be for one part of the site only right?
if that's the case then do it. Do not bother with the no index no follow Google will simply only give you credit for one copy of the 7000 words.
Does that answer your question?
also please don't be alarmed about the penguin stuff in the other links there just relevant to duplicate content so I hope you will find them helpful in this case.
Long story short as long as you're not going to continue to create duplicate content you will be fine.
If you feel that they belong in the FAQ and as an individual blog post that you're going to add your own unique content for People using the blog and would like to use your FAQ answers in order to enhance the blog. I agree 100% with Erica
that's what I was trying to explain to my 1st post. That is going to have to come up with a different domain regardless of whether or not you shorten it or simply choose a different TLD
it should be noted though that only bit.ly enterprise & AWE.SM are capable of allowing a person to create a unique short domain and creating a name after the/of your choice there may be another tool out there that can do it however to the best of my knowledge.
Bit.ly's Personal Edition will allow you To create a unique extension only if no one else on all of bit.ly has chosen that ending. Chances are they have though, and it's wise to go with tool that will create a short domain that is capable of making your brand look good.
the 1st answer does still answer your question. It's what I would do and what I have done that's why referenced the bseo.co link because I can to exactly what Erica stated save space on social networks and create my own short domain that redirects to my homepage if it does not have a unique URL it needs to 301 redirect
I hope this clears everything up.
Thomas
Hi Bob,
I want to apologize for the misinformation I gave you. I misread your question and apologize for that.
Paul,
I apologize if I miss led Bob. I misread it, and all I can do at this point is apologize.
I put the work in because I read the question I thought they were speaking of something else. So that's why I spent the time to Try and answer it. I've spoken to Keri privately and while I can't say I will never misinterpret something again ever I am definitely doing things to prevent that from happening.
All the best,
Thomas
I'm happy I could help you.
many times people have these issues when their site is a year or two old, and they have hundreds or thousands of links pointing at it. So it's always nice to speak to somebody when their site is brand-new and has the freedom to make changes before they're would be traffic loss or other things like that.
Please let me know if I can be of any more help you at all.
sincerely,
Thomas
Hi Jim,
Yes you actually have to do quite a bit to keep your site from losing its traction. You will most likely see a drop in rank regardless of how well you do it. The amount of time could be a day to a week if you do it right if you do it wrong it could be until you fix it or regain the links
It is not wise to lose that amount of links it will be like your site is committing suicide. Simply 301 redirect them using the information below if you cannot get the original owner of the site who links to you to link to your new domain.
When done properly you must use all the tools at your disposal to find your back links
Moz open site Explorer
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/
MajesticSEO

if I were you I would subscribe to the other 2 for one month in order to get the data I needed. Some people use Raven tools because it incorporates MajesticSEO for back links however I do not believe it is as good as actually using MajesticSEO
http://raventools.com/marketing-tools/seo-software/
Sost of what you need is answered in this question below.
http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-keep-old-url-juice-during-site-switch
here is a bigger version of the and photograph if it cannot be seen very well.

I strongly recommend buying the tool called screaming frog SEO spider if you're going to be the one doing this
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
combine that with the SEER interactive guide on screaming frog and the information in the URL above and you will be in good shape.

I am just telling you that I think Anthony's answer is one of the best ones out there.
Load time matters a lot you should look into what your visitors are seen by using RUM speed testing you can see exactly what any visitor had to deal with speed wise for free up to 20,000 hits a month
remember to add the RUM code to your site if you want to measure this.
that data can tell you if you need to switch hosting companies optimize your website code or if you're having no trouble at all.
Social signals from Google + tend to be more powerful than those from twitter and Facebook however definitely do not leave out twitter or Facebook or LinkedIn for that matter. All social traffic is a positive.
Have a good strong look at your analytics using a product like kiss metrics or mixed panel ( kiss metrics & mix panel is able to do track individuals) mixed panel has a free tier
looking at where people click on your website when it's visiting is extremely valuable. Crazy Egg is a fantastic tool to find out whether or not for UX for site layout is what's best for the visitor you can then use A/B testing with a tool like
Visual Website Optimizer to find the perfect layout to have your customers convert or sign-up do it ever does he want them to do.
You can save money on these tools using http://moz.com/perks
I hope this helps,
Thomas
Hi John,
I'm very happy to hear that was able to help you. Please let me know if I can be of more assistance in any way. The forum is awesome the entire company is awesome.
I'm sure you'll like it here quite a bit.
All the best,
Thomas
trust on this one but I encourage you if you have the slightest doubt and it is wise to get a 2nd opinion. But I do know that currently Google will give a penalty to a www. and not to another subdomain that means they're treated differently. Not to mention the fact that all of the incoming links are split if you're in a get any going to one part they're not going to go to the other. The video was old please start a new question saying I have a brand-new site I would like anyone's opinion on this.
"Should I make my blog in this format www.example.com/blog or blog.example.com ?"
I guarantee you will get a lot of people with a lot of knowledge telling you to use the subdirectory.
If you are interested in ranking with video Wistia is the way to get people to actually come back to your site. It ranks like YouTube unlike YouTube it will not help you get people to convert on your site. The reasons why are explained right here
http://wistia.com/learning/advanced-seo-with-distilled
something I would strongly recommend doing is signing up for Distilled U
I have been on there since the beginning here is what I have learned it is constantly updating
http://www.distilled.net/user/blueprint/
I don't want you to think I misled you so please get a 2nd opinion from everyone at Moz you will get a lot of answers very quickly during the daytime. If you want to learn more about why this would be the best way to go I suggest Moz Academy along with Distilled U
Wistia the video host that will give you 5 free videos then you pay reasonable prices which you can save on by using Moz.com/perks in addition you can save on distilled U with Moz.com/perks
Sincerely,
Thomas
Google treats them as 2 separate sites now the Google sites treats them as 2 separate video you referenced is 2 years old. You can get a penalty on a subdomain and not on another subdomain meaning blog or www
It does not work like that anymore. it is very strange to see subdomain blog because it makes no sense to use one In almost all cases.
Please read this and then I encourage you to ask the question to everyone should I make my blog a subdomain or should I make it a subdirectory?
http://contentlead.com/blog/whats-your-seo-ally-the-subdomain-or-the-subdirectory
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/subdomains-and-subdirectories/
well I don't know what was there when the site was indexed
for instance I know the actual URL has been indexed by Google
you can use the this inside the Google search box " site:http://www.honoluluhi5.com/faq/ "
in order to find out if your site has been indexed or not. However I'm getting the same info as you according to Google this is what content they show is on your site's FAQ
then click on the site link in the top right you will see an arrow come d show cached
the easy way to tell is if you would remember if the content was there on Jan 31, 2014 08:18:33 GMT
if it was then Google is having trouble reading through all the JavaScript enabled to make the folding occur.
rather not Google can read it I would stick to making that a directory to the blog posts instead of a part of your website that simply is duplicate content that way it will serve as a FAQ and point people to the right answer in the blog just be certain to interlink and allow people to go back to the FAQ when needed.
Okay after looking at your http://www.honoluluhi5.com/faq/ you have over 7000 words visible to Google. Simply use the
Text the spider sees
Text seems long enough. - (spiders see 7696 words)
Google can see text on your page and there is likely enough text to help users understand your page.
To check out Google sees your site use this tool with the crawl spider it also has many additional excellent tools.
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/
I would simply use the canonical tag to let Google know that your telling them where it was found originally. However it's not a good practice to continue creating duplicate content on one site.
Here is Google's Matt Cutts on the subject but don't take it too far I think you'll be safe however I would create unique content from now on out
Sincerely,
Thomas
It is a beautiful layout that you have. You would be best not duplicating content however I would be interested to see how search engines view your FAQ is being seen by the search engines because it is collapsible it's possible it's not being seen by me have a look at it with a tool I'll answer you and 2 seconds
Thank you that is very kind of you. When you change the site make sure you submit it to Google webmaster tools and that both the www. & non-www are entered into Google Webmaster tools. Then select your preferred site in this case www
after which you can submit the xml site map along with asking Google to index your website using this link
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1352276?hl=en
You're very kind. I really appreciate that.
I really enjoyed speaking with you and I hope that this is helped.
I'm happy that you're off to the right start. Remember you're always welcome to contact me if you get stuck on anything my information is in my profile.
Sincerely,
Thomas
PS you can thumbs up any response you wish. for instance every time someone replies you can have the option of getting a thumbs up or a thumbs down were non at all. Please don't think I'm asking you to do that just telling you what you were able to do.
from what I can see looking at your back links or lack of back links it most likely will not hurt you if you do not 301 redirect. I would normally tell you to 301 redirect but because of the circumstances of having to call in extra people and there being no added value in 301 redirecting something that Google does not Have any Moz or page rank plus that Google does not equated with the current site now you would not be losing anything.
Yoast Has a spectacular free plug-in. That makes it much easier for you to post your site title ( one of the most powerful things in search) your descriptions which do not count in the search engines but do matter to individuals reading them. Along with just having one simple plug-in giving you authorship, the ability to index or no index anything you want the touch of a button and many more valuable features for somebody running WordPress it is a very wise decision in my opinion to use it.
You are correct Google is excellent at finding quality however with Yoast you can make it so people can more easily find your site/blog, and the golden rule is if people our happy Google is happy. It's a free plug-in I would put it in right away when you move the blog to the subfolder. it really does a lot and will not slow you down.
The ability to show authorship, the ability to have the right settings automatically in place most of the time like canonical really cuts down on your FTP time.
If your site is shared on Facebook or twitter Open graph gives you the ability to show a quick summary of the shared link along with a photograph. Twitter Cards let you do the same on twitter without Yoast you will need other plug-ins to do this work this doesn't all free.
Sincerely,
Thomas
how old is the website?
I would create the site so that blog information is 301 redirected to the new subfolder.
If the site has been crawled by Google you will want to be 01 redirect everything exactly where it came from. Then you will want to get rid of the blog subdomain anyway because once it's crawled by Google the links and structure will already be understood. If there are literally no links at all to blog I would say it is very safe to start fresh. And move the content to the subfolder. I would use open site Explorer to make sure you don't have any back links that might matter Pointing to the blog.
it will never hurt you to 301 redirect from the subdomain to your new spot if there are any domains linking to your old blog then you will want to keep the link juice either by asking the person to please link to your new spot if you know them or you can read this post that I think is fairly valuable.
http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-keep-old-url-juice-during-site-switch
I am very happy to hear you're just starting out because now you can start out the right way. You should also consider installing a SEO plug-in for WordPress like Yoast WordPress SEO on you blog when its moved
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/
Slincerely,
Thomas
just another tip you can name your categories or not use them at all. It seems like you may want to use them in this case.
When insider blog you have it set up so the URL reads "category" you could use that URL to actually describe the category therefore making it necessary to have a category. For instance
http://blog.honoluluhi5.com/category/honolulu-real-estate/
becomes http://blog.honoluluhi5.com/real-estate/honolulu/ you do not have to change the anchor text or ending like I did I just was showing you that option. Because underneath that category real estate you could list everything that has to do with real estate in your blog a simple way to get rid of the category in this 2nd link would be to keep the name from above as the category instead of the word " category"
http://blog.honoluluhi5.com/category/good-to-know-non-real-estate/
if you can use a flat site structure
if you look at perm link structure in this URL it will describe what I'm talking about
http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/10-steps-to-creating-a-wordpress-blog
https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/why-you-should-map-out-your-sites-information-architecture/
https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/site-navigation-for-seo/
I hope this makes sense because you can tell even the best sites use a subcategory and in place of a subdomain for a blog
https://www.distilled.net/blog
needs to become
http://www.honoluluhi5.com/blog/
sincerely,
Thomas
what I would do in this case is take your blog and not use a subdomain but use this setup.
Becomes http://www.honoluluhi5.com/blog/
that way you're not look that as 2 separate websites by Google.
Using a subdomain does not give you all the benefits of your wonderful website that you have created. So when I link to your subdomain www. the site is given the link juice and site structure is going to benefit you dramatically.
If you want to know more about how to set up the blog without creating duplicate content
you will be interlinking between your blog subdomain and your www.subdomain so I understand why you asked which one it should be on because it's like you built to websites.
I would strongly consider making the site into a single subdomain main site.
You have a beautiful website however I will have to tell you that using a subdomain is not search engine friendly using a subdirectory
as spoken about here
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-install-wordpress-in-subdirectory
http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development
&
http://moz.com/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world
if you have any questions about integrating WordPress into the site using a subdirectory etc. the subdomain so /blog verse http://blog. always choose subdirectory in less there is a very good reason.
I like your site quite a bit did you talk to your developer about search engine optimization when they were building it?
Sincerely,
Thomas
I would make your FAQ section contains links that go to your website's answers.
the best way to deal with duplicate content would be to put a no index no follow tag in the header of the blog posts you are making. This would not help you gain extra search traffic however it would allow you to put it in the format you would like that creating a duplicate content issue for you.
However
I would then add a part to the website where it allows the user to return to the original answers post blog tend to do post they were on.
It seems that if you were to duplicate your content in your blog you would just be hurting yourself. However it is your content.
Long blog posts with a simple table of contents that will take you to the frequently asked question. Would be ideal.
If you already have done a long blog on this exact information and you want to break it up into separate parts than do that. If not definitely use a canonical tag on your posts in order to tell Google where it came from. However it does not seem like it would be the best idea if was not a thorough and very long answer.
If your answers are under 500 words I would keep them in the same post.
Simply create a table of contents in your new setup however you're going to build these additional FAQs and by using a table of contents you can direct the visitor to your answer correctly.
If it represents such a small part of what you're doing and your idea is to create a blog post per an answer I would stick to one of the 2 formats. Remember the length of content does matter.
Honestly it's best to put your time and energy into creating fresh content or putting this content in the easiest to find manner for the end-user. Think of it this way would you as a person searching the web for this information want it in the format it's in now or would you like it duplicated and made into separate blog posts?
that's what Google is going to care about therefore that's what you should care about.
Do not do this with the idea of I will just go grab some traffic do it to make your site a better website overall.
Having not seen the site I don't know what to tell you would be the most user-friendly but trust me on this you want it to be for the people not for the search engines. Google understands this stuff well enough that time on site, pogo sticking, click through rate etc. will determine your rank and traffic just make the best site you can.
If it's because you're trying to help people access the data it more easily do it if not don't do it.
Sincerely,
Thomas
Hi John,
Frist off welcome to Moz!
check out some of the links below here I think Moz Academy, learning SEO & distilled U sound like what you're looking for. Distilled is a partner of Moz however they are very close when it comes to the way companies operate. Their friends literally. Here are the links below.
the http://moz.com/learn/seo along with everything included like http://moz.com/academy
along with much more if you want another exceptional way of learning search I suggest
creating synergy you can sign up for Distilled U https://www.distilled.net/u/
Distilled University is an amazing place to learn search engine optimization and marketing. You can even save money by using moz.com/perks I believe you get 20% off don't quote me on that though.
Having used it myself it is extremely thorough, and you can go at your own pace. You can get into very simple things or extremely technical things I would strongly recommend it.
try it I love it.
case studies if you Google "case studies moz" you get a lot of great stuff for instance all the wonderful blogs http://moz.com/blog/an-evergreen-content-case-study
http://moz.com/blog/case-study-whitehat-link-building-in-the-gambling-industry
http://moz.com/blog/9000-uniques-viral-marketing-case-study
are just a very few
I hope this answers your question please let me know if there's anything I have left out that I can help you with.
Remember if you ever get stuck or have a question about anything search related you can always ask it here.
Sincerely,
Thomas
What tools did you use to backup your site prior to doing this?
Did you do a complete index of the site using screaming frog or something similar?
have a look at this
http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-keep-old-url-juice-during-site-switch
&
this is a bigger version of the photo I have attached.
http://www.aleydasolis.com/images/seo-website-domain-migration.gif
most of the time you want to create links with out any capitalization.
http://www.nobelcom.com/Angola-Cell-phone-cards/from-Canada-55-407.html
Once you have found out what the problem is by using a crawler like screaming frog or Moz crawler
Try using Google's changed domain tool it will begin to index your site rapidly.
sincerely,
Thomas
the best thing to do right now is have a look at
Prior to building or finishing the site it would be a good idea to look at how Google is crawling the Ajax version of your planned directory or category I would use
the spider tool as well as the image tool
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/spider/
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/alt/
All tools
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/
After your certain that the Ajax start causing any issues for Google bot I believe the best way to move forward is summed up in 2 links below very well.
https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/case-study-determining-site-architecture-from-keyword-research/
https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/why-you-should-map-out-your-sites-information-architecture/
I have not seen your website so I can't tell you if the user would prefer the Ajax However Google bot does not do well with Ajax vs text
"Problem 5: AJAX and URLs"
check out problem 5 in this link as well
https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/fixing-seo-problems-with-html5/
Sincerely,
You can do that using http://totally.awe.sm/ , bit.ly pro or Bilty free if you don't mind not having control of what appears after the / you will need different TLD and the same name for your domain. if example.com is your brand domain then example.co is your shared domain.
I would recommend against using your websites domain name to create a lot of shared links that will not be part of your website. Even if they will look like example.com/fbshare or example.com/679a43054
You will need a new domain of your choice of course.
Sorry if I was not as clear in the beginning.
I misread your question.
Sincerely,
Thomas
Mike
try this as well.
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/linkcount/
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/spider/
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/
read this
http://www.zemanta.com/blog/technical-seo-audit-for-publishers/
All the best,
Thomas
Hi Mike,
if the source code still shows no follow & no index then unfortunately Google bot will not change that.
the easiest way to tell is to use the Moz bar if you use Google Chrome or Firefox you can download it for free here
http://moz.com/tools/seo-toolbar
whenever you're on the page you think is blocked simply click the tool and it will tell you.
However if you have the no follow and no index removed then you have to wait for Google bot to index your site prior to any changes in Google.
Try running your site through one of the 3 tools here.
The Moz crawl test is pretty awesome it sometimes can take a while for the results come in. If your site is very large I would use it because the other free tools below will not go over a set amount of pages for instance Internet marketing ninjas 1000 pages is the max in the case of screaming frog 500 pages is the max.
https://moz.com/researchtools/crawl-test
One thing I would do is download this tool it is free to crawl your site up to 500 pages and works on Mac, PC and Linux
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
It will show you very clearly if you have any pages that are no follow , no index
if you run that tool then export all the no follow no index pages or export the crawl report I can use the Pro version and I will change your tags to no longer say no follow no index
I'd also be interested in seeing what your robots.txt file says by putting a URL of mine into this tool below I was able to get this information
http://www.internetmarketingninjas.com/seo-tools/robots-txt-generator/
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-content/plugins/
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/
Sitemap: http://app.wistia.com/sitemaps/23283.xml
I can now see that as long as anything that says Disallow with the / is going to be blocked
its a very simple way to check for things that could be causing problems that would replicate identical symptoms.
The same company that makes that robots.txt tool makes another tool that could help you quite a bit. Similar to screaming frog however this one will crawl your site up to 1000 pages at no cost.
http://www.internetmarketingninjas.com/seo-tools/google-sitemap-generator/
I know it says site map generator however in addition to doing that it will show you every single blocked page and for what reason it's blocked. In addition you don't have to download software it's right on the web. After which it will e-mail you the results or you can watch them come in.
Here's some more information that might be of help to you
Kristina Kledzik works for distilled however she wrote this great quick audit guide right here.
http://www.zemanta.com/blog/technical-seo-audit-for-publishers/
https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/7-technical-seo-wins-for-web-developers/
If you don't feel comfortable sharing your URL for more than welcome to private message me here.
Sincerely,
Thomas
Hi Joni,
What Vadim has said is true. You can use it for either platform really any platform that shortens links.
Use this tool to build the URL I am a huge fan of Kiss Metrics however that does not mean that you have to use them in order to find this article useful.
http://blog.kissmetrics.com/how-to-use-utm-parameters/
&
Then run whatever you build through the http://totally.awe.sm/ shortener or URL shortener of your choice.
Sincerely,
Thomas
I agree with everything Chris has said it's right on the money.
"Would it help to remove the meta tag for update time of the review, such that Google does not down rank for not being recent?"
Absolutely not it will make no difference whatsoever. Like Chris is explained Google is taking signals from many places however they are not going to be influenced or tricked by metadata tags.
It is possible because of your affiliation with gambling that Google is cracking down on that sort of site. However I could be wrong on that last one.
Sincerely,
Thomas
in order to see what I was referencing before you can simply no index no follow from this part of the admin panel as well
https://yoast.com/wordpress-seo-1-2/
I think your problem is going to be in here
have you reversed everything that you've done inside the Yoast plug-in?
You say that you keep creating new blog posts, and they are all no follow, no index. is this correct?
have you looked at the main rules in
Robots Meta configuration
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/
you could also have no index selected for categories, tags, etc. whatever you could've easily just click the button, and no indexed your entire blog if it is a category.
How familiar are you with this plug-in?
I should Have started with this 1st however have you pulled your robots.txt file?
in this tool it will tell you to put "Existing robots.txt URL (optional)" _______________________
put your URL in their and then hit upload it will show you everything in your robots.txt file rather you have one or 4. It's possible because of plug-ins I'm not saying that's the issue but check it.
http://www.internetmarketingninjas.com/seo-tools/robots-txt-generator/
If you need more help with it sending your URL I will figured out.
Sincerely,
Thomas
Local Search ROI = ((Lead Value X Campaign Value) – Cost of Campaign) / Cost of Campaign
http://streetfightmag.com/2013/09/18/calculating-the-roi-of-local-search-campaigns/
Hope this helps,
Tom
Yes use http://totally.awe.sm/
They are by far the best in my opinion. Bitly Does offer a enterprise version that I believe starts at $900 a month
http://blog.awe.sm/2013/07/16/now-everyone-can-be-awe-sm
http://totally.awe.sm/platform/
you're looking to shorten a URL so it represents your brand and allow for you to control what comes after the / along with having a generally good looking URL.?
Check out this custom short URL of mine running on AWE.SM I created it so it should bring you right back to this page
so you are aware you can create a custom short domain for free using Bitly however your ability to track along with your ability to create a URL with less than 7 characters after the / or a custom name after the / would be taken away completely.
If I can make a recommendation as to how to find the perfect short URL check out https://domai.nr/
also remember certain registrars are not going to allow you to use certain TLD's for instance Italy has .it
they do not allow anyone that is not a citizen of the EU to registrar that domain. So my strongest recommendation is to use a .co if available obviously you may find something that works perfectly for you. However check out the TLD as some are under different regulations that will make your stomach turn.
I purchased a 3 letter domain that ended in.TK unaware that .TK is a TLD that is given away for free in certain circumstances, but only for a certain amount of clicks. So you can either purchase it for an extremely high amount or you can build your links be ruined.
name.com It is a good choice so is http://www.enom.com/
Namecheap.com is excellent as well and you can get a very good discount using Moz.com/perks
I hope this is been of help,
Thomas
You must wait for Google Bot
you can ask Google to crawl it.
Useing
before I could tell you the best way to get your ranking backup I would have to look at your site.
I Would bet you that because you have bad back links that you try to remove you might've missed a few.
"There are 2 other paid links from two PR4 sites that look editorial. There are other links on the sites to other websites that are paid. All links for these 2 sites look editorial."
Google it is a $40 billion a year company that has the resources and ability to figure out if it's a paid link or looks like a paid link. They will find out from other sites using similar services paid links are one of the worst things you can have in my opinion.
Do a title tag like this is spamming
running shoes | walking shoes | cross-training shoes
using something like Shoes - Walking - Running - Cross-training
would be a better title tag
"Google changes the way the title tag is displayed sometimes in the search engines."
This is normal for Google will change your title tag to suit the queried keywords. It is supposed to help you.
"We may have many 404 errors (due to some mistakes we made with the URLs in our cart) - if Google hasn't deindexed them all then we could have dozens of 404s on important category pages. But nothing is showing up in GWT."
Are you only using Google Webmaster tools to try to figure out if you have for 404's?
when you say blogs I'm assuming your meaning posts?
when you delete blog posts and other parts of the website you're essentially deleting interlinking, back links that you may not know about, your changing your website structure.
If you have not corrected all possible 404's or at least most this will hurt you quite a bit.
For instance when people redesign their site and do not 301 redirect properly even sometimes when they do 301 redirect properly they go down drastically in the SERPS
this is because Google does not trust change immediately.
if you scroll down you'll see my answer in this post and its relevancy to changing parts of the website and Actually trying to keep your site rank.
http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-keep-old-url-juice-during-site-switch
" We have a lot of subcategory pages that rel=cononical to main categories in the menu."
That might not be the wisest idea.
I would strongly recommend a site audit.
if you give me your URL I will run it through some tools for you and give you my opinion.
Sincerely,
Thomas
I was able to use open Web Explorer easily on your site
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.livinghouse.co.uk
your robots.txt file is right here
User-agent: *
Disallow: /acatalog/callmeback.html
Sitemap: http://www.livinghouse.co.uk/sitemap.xml
I would let the Moz help team know.
Sincerely,
Thomas
Hi Keri,
Thank you for bringing that my attention
OP,
In terms of numbers of how many people actually have it disabled on their browser I think that's extremely hard to find out. I linked to buildwith.com which can tell you how many of the top million sites need JavaScript to operate correctly.
http://trends.builtwith.com/javascript
I looked around for a number, and I really don't know I believe because chrome is the biggest browser right now on the web, and it is recommended to be on that many people are using active JavaScript.
http://mashable.com/2012/05/21/chrome-is-tops/
While without a doubt there is a risk by using active JavaScript you open up your computer to attacks rather it's Mac PC, Linux whatever.
Here's some information on why you might want to turn it off.
http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2012/08/30/how-turn-off-java-browser/
this link as well as information even though it says enabling on the dangers.
http://www.alanwood.net/demos/enabling-javascript.html
One thing if you're worried about this I would recommend is installing either a tool that blocks sites known to exploit malware rather be from JavaScript or in other forms.
I personally use http://dyn.com/labs/dyn-internet-guide/
You can use
http://www.neustar.biz/enterprise/dns-services/recursive-dns-faqs
it is simply a matter of changing your reclusive DNS name servers while
They use their algorithms along with barracuda's malware technology to show you a this is a Site that is known for malware/spyware screen if you go to a bad site or a site tries to redirect you it will stop them.
I would use name bench a Google product that will tell you which reclusive name servers are the quickest for whatever region of the world you're in.
After which I would choose a service that blocks these types of attacks for instance Google's DNS will not be of any assistance in this manner so you might have the fastest download speed using them, but you do not want to change your DNS servers over to them because you will not get the benefit of blocking malware/spyware.
he only 2 that I can tell you I have used with success are OpenDNS & Dyn
a better explanation for exactly how to set up on your computer is contained in this link from OpenDNS
http://use.opendns.com/ Better instructions in the URL before this word.
http://dyn.com/labs/dyn-internet-guide/
However, rather you use Dyn or OpenDNS the set up is identical so follow those instructions in the link above to set your computer up that way. You can also of course set up through the router that's what I prefer that way everything is protected on your network.
Replace your current DNS resolvers with the following:
resolver1.dyndnsinternetguide.com – 216.146.35.35 resolver2.dyndnsinternetguide.com – 216.146.36.36
the URL for open DNS and the instructions on how to set it up are here
another excellent system that does the same things as the others and has a very good way of showing you how to implement reclusive DNS is
http://www.neustar.biz/enterprise/dns-services/free-recursive-dns
Neustar DNS Advantage addresses,
156.154.70.1
156.154.71.1
I would always recommend that no matter what system you run on your use an antivirus program. For instance I use Macs some people say that there wasting time and money using an antivirus I do not agree with that and would recommend a standard antivirus program for your computer no matter what type of computer you're running. However to prevent most of the JavaScript errors you can do a lot on the network side with DNS setups like the ones I've talked about.
one last thing Akamai CDN has an issue with any cast reclusive DNS servers meaning it's slightly slower on some websites that use the highest version of Akamai's content delivery network. You can get by without noticing it if you have at least a cable connection. I just thought I would let you know.
Sincerely,
Thomas
