RE: How Do I Get Rel=Author to Work Via Wordpress SEO by Yoast?
It seems to me that you using more than one from of schema or more than one form of Microdata/schema on the website and if that is the case you. Quite a few errors you want to look at your code carefully.
hope that helped,

RE: Can you recommend improvements to my blog?
I would add some more floating share buttons rather it's a bar down the left side or buttons below the actual post.
I would switch from YouTube and Vimeo
to Wistia it is by far the better way to get links. You can allow people to share the video which will point back to you in addition it will rank in Google because of its site map and schema.
You can also send it to ask for an e-mail at the beginning in the middle or the after somebody has watched a video. This is very helpful as you can get quite a large e-mail list from it.

RE: Are my urls too long or spammy?
I would read this blog post
http://moz.com/blog/should-i-change-my-urls-for-seo
then read this afterwards
in my opinion they are way too long. you are being somewhat spammy by repeating words over and over. For instance wedding is said very many times sows the word dress and bridal.
I would look into rewriting your URLs. Read the should I change my URLs for SEO link at the top.
If the URLs are older and ranking extremely well I would leave them alone but only if there ranking where you want them to be.
I want to remind you to remember to 301 redirect your old URL into your new URL when you make the change if you decide to

RE: Expired domains and OSE?
Erica is completely right in the open site Explorer cache will determine how long the site information stays in the tool. If you were to a look at a domain and it expired the next week then 2 weeks later you go check it out it will be ranked accordingly with a level I Moz has the most relevant fresh information of all the 3 big index tools both majestic and arefs.
the best place to look for old sites that are no longer on the web is the way back machine or archive.org

RE: Is there a way MOZ can help me get HQ links?
welcome to Moz
I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions.
yes you can use the mention tracking tool to highlight mentions of your keywords and then look at the blogs or and are websites that are speaking about them. It does not give you an ability to reach out and ask the webmaster for a chance to guest blog. However there are tools buzz tools in moz.com/perks that would allow you to reach out to the webmasters.
I believe you will find a abundance of high authority agencies/webmasters willing to allow you to collaborate with them if you get on their radar. This is a wonderful place to start.
I wish you all the best,

I agree with Frederico everything he said is completely right on the money. If you are removing photographs and things that would not work well on a small screen then that is of course all right. You're removing content is in words even video then that is not okay.
PS Frederico I owe you an apology your right on the 301/https redirect question

RE: Is there a way MOZ can help me get HQ links?
Are you talking about building links one thing Moz can do is give you the back links of any site. If you're talking about doing something like this and this link http://www.clearwebmarketing.com/link_building_packages.html then the answer is no
you can write a YouMoz post which will be featured if it is picked as the best of all the competitive posts. Then you will get a back link and credit however it sounds like you're looking for something where you can build links very easily. I don't know that that's possible today Moz is extremely white hat and Google has made it so there is no easy method of ranking you have to really put a lot of work into it unless you want to rank for words that are extremely rare.
Moz can show you how to do it the correct way

RE: Social Analytics: Service that integrates Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn?
Hi Allie,
If you are not used HubSpot in a while I agree with you it was clunky. HubSpot 3 though is the only tool I know if that will allow you to monitor all the big networks including LinkedIn. Tell you when somebody comes from your site from any of them. Allow you to track all of your engagements rather it's over HubSpots e-mail or any social network. They are coming out with HubSpot 4 in January and I think it might be the best social tool out there here are some good competitors though.
Check out tracker as well as Adobe anything listed below should do all the networks know that I AWE.SM lets you track your posts on LinkedIn and lets you to post to LinkedIn there are 3 levels of that software and I use it to post a link and quite often you can also create your own category for instance if you wanted to use the least expensive version use static and name it static linkedin when you look at the analytics you'll see where it was shared to as the URL is present in the monitoring.
Please have a look at please options as well.

RE: What is the best way to deal with https?
I normally would have agreed with Federico I did some checking and I personally would go with the 301 redirect the other thing I would do when you're doing this is move your server to Nginx it's much faster and uses much less RAM.
My reasons being that you want the site to be consistent. The 301 redirect will do that there is a chance of inconsistency with Canonical tags as the server does not have to obey it.
https://sites.google.com/site/onlyvalidation/page/301-redirect-https-to-http-on-apache-server

RE: Social Analytics: Service that integrates Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn?
I would be happy to recommend my favorite company http://totally.awe.sm his in my opinion the best all-in-one social media tool.
the only other platform I have a lot of familiarity with that is fantastic in this field is http://www.hubspot.com/products/social-inbox
HubSpot gives you a lot more than just social media as well so it may be too expensive as it is a full Inbound marketing platform. starting at $200 a month it is a bargain
there social media ability is incredible.
I have heard decent things about sprout however I can not confirm as I have not used them.
http://sproutsocial.com/features
If you want to be blown away use http://totally.awe.sm/ or the hubspot.com platform each can handle far more than what you've asked for and I'm certain you'll be happy with them. You'll get the analytics you craved along with full integration with other parts of your website. You can try hotspot for free for 30 days at hubspot.com each has full support and you really can't go wrong with either pick. I like to use this with a e-mail mail http://www.getsignals.com/

RE: Link Building: What Can I Reasonably Expect from SEO Firm
Hi Adam,
Search engine optimization is not a practice in which you want to skimp. If the site is your way of making a living. Which I have no idea if it is or not?
Obviously if it's important you I would go ahead with a reputable firm. However
I would inquire to what method they hope to build these links to your site.
What else are they going to do to improve your sites page rank and traffic? If anything
you said the already conducted the audit on your site's this right?
Are you penalized now by Google I'm assuming that you are?
I agree there should be a set time period of a month at least to audit the entire site and then you start to figure out and which method you can earn links, that will benefit your website the most overall.
5 links a month seems like a good amount kind of a high amount of high quality links. I'm talking about extremely relevant in no way spam powerful links pointing towards your site not just your homepage.
There are methods in which people can get lucky for instance I have a client who received almost 1000 links from very relevant and extremely powerful sites GQ, Rolling Stone, Time magazine you get I'm going with this because this was a viral hit that was truly a godsend I do not expect this to be normal. A very unique product and the press loved it so it worked out and now we are going through all the possibly bad links that are not worth anything.
Think link velocity if you are consistently picking up 5 links a month you will want to stay around that rate obviously if good opportunities come your way take them. But never do anything to cause a spike unless it's completely white hat that should go without saying.
I wonder where your site will rank if you actually remove 90% of your links?
I would be very inquisitive to that. Because some are suspicious does not mean that there that having said that I have not looked at the data therefore I really have no way of knowing and if you trust this firm go for it.
I would make sure that they are reputable Google them are they a Moz recommended company?
I would start off by telling you this is going to cost X amount to do the audit. The I would move on from there because only after I do a very thorough time-consuming audit will I know where I stand with your website.
And only after that on it will you know where you stand with your website.
Every firm has different ways it seems like these guys have taken care of you by looking for the bad links and the only question I have is where's your primary traffic coming from? Your 4000 users are they going to kill that source? Or is it very spread out if it's a Google penalty I'm assuming it's a link from a very popular site or 20.
Companies like Distiled, SEER interactive, Evolving SEO, Internet marketing ninjas and Portent's come to mind for this type of work.
If things go the way most companies plan they should you will keep this company on for quite a long time as their ROI will surpass what you are paying them and it will make sense to continue using them for a long time.
I would not worry about the one-month it really is necessary. I just don't know how I would tell you very much about what's going to happen without the one-month audit. I could of course have a idea considering the link on it you told me about.
I think from what I'm reading they are reputable and I totally agree with quality over quantity.
Try to get them involved in every part of your site if you can get the most out of this as you can and enjoy being out from under googles thumb once it**'**s done.
Both parties should have an exit clause if the worst curse. Which I hate to bring up but most reputable firms have a exit clause for themselves as well as the customer. However this does not mean after 3 months if you don't see traffic pickup that they're doing something wrong SEO can be a slow process you must wait and be patient for it to work correctly.
Ask them if you will get more than a link audit as I would be checking your entire site including your hosting how many words you have on every page code structure the list goes on. Ask them to do all of that as well you want to get it right.
Sincerely,
Thomas

RE: Installing Google Analytics tracking code on Landing Pages
I agree stick with what Google says keep it in the header
- Paste your snippet (unaltered, in it’s entirety) into every web page you want to track. Paste it immediately before the closing tag.
If your website uses templates to generate pages, enter it just before the closing tag in the file that contains the the section.

RE: Can someone help me understand Structured Data?
schema is a method that all 3 takes search engines Google Yahoo and Bing use to better understand the content in your site. & make your data "machine readable" to search engines.
HTML 5 incorporates schema into the code natively so it is something that Google and every other search engine is using as part of their algorithm so is important that it is implemented correctly. There are different types of schema
For instance I can use schema to easily tell a search engine that I am a local business and where they can find me this would result in the site that had the correct local schema on it coming up in universal search results for whatever keywords my site was relevant to.
I could use a tool like this Below its website is great as well with a lot of information on schema that's easy to understand.
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/address/
An excellent place to get information about schema and a company that builds the fantastic WordPress plug-in
another excellent places the Google FAQ page
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1211158
want to use rel=author
download Yoast WordPress SEO plug-in then followed the instructions given here
you can use these instructions to do this on other similar plug-ins as well.
http://yoast.com/push-rel-author-head/
& read
http://yoast.com/wordpress-rel-author-rel-me/
If you're authorship is set up correctly and the Google Structured Data test shows it working correctly it should work. However one quick thing you should check is to make sure there is a checkmark next to your home pages URL on your Google + page there could be a number of reasons why a just not showing up I would check the instructions above and make sure that everything is done correctly.
I hope this is not of hope to you sincerely,
Thomas

RE: Can a CMS affect SEO?
I want to say I agree with Tom I focused strictly on your CMS and as Tom said essentially you have been hurt by your lack of relevant root domains pointing to your site.
Unfortunately after penalty given with an excellent cleanup Google is a little more wary of everything you do. So when you try to earn these new links which will need to do to compete for specialist paints an extremely competitive keyword. Be extremely careful that you do not cross any boundaries.
Take a look at the information below as well I did quite a few scans on your site and hopefully that will be of some help to you.
Respectfully,
Thomas
-
RE: Can a CMS affect SEO?
to answer the 1st question. Of course a CMS can affect how website performs. Meaning some are built better than others. If you had a CMS that was to produce all flash content that would be a pretty bad CMS.
I honestly prefer WordPress it works beautifully with search engines as well as people. The important thing though is that you can create a website that is easy for the end user and accomplishes what they want because that's exactly what Google wants.
when I used a tool I use a lot from Internet marketing ninjas in order to scan your site for issues it was giving me a 408 error that error is
- "408 Request Timeout (Couldn't find the user in time)"
- you can see what I mean right here I attempted this 8 times.
I used a another tool screaming frog SEO spider I highly recommend this tool it is free for up to 500 pages though the Pro version gives you the ability to fix a lot of problems instantly.
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
Here the results
https://app.box.com/files/0/f/550482746/1/f_11967719472 crawl overview
https://app.box.com/s/nvyyszluy9mb9rhx1ms6 redirect chain check
https://app.box.com/files/0/f/550482746/1/f_11967725394 all links
I would doubt the CMS has anything to do with your issues. Based on using this tool below called feed the bot
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/spider/test.php
I was able to crawl your site with no problems. That replicates googles ability to crawl a website. If there was an issue with your CMS blocking Google bot I would've picked it up there
It seems your CMS is custom-made I have never heard of this particular one however that does not mean it's bad. I would recommend using WordPress if you you build the site for any reason. It is very search engine friendly and has a extremely large pool of developers.
Use some of the tools found in this link to scan for other issues
aside from that I would guess that your prior penalty may have something to do with a drop or he could be the lack of content one your site. Overall you do not have a lot of content meeting over 200 or 300 words per page I would start by issuing another question regarding whatever you find to be off about your site. Or something more detailed about what exactly you suspect is a problem why you think it's your CMS? I would really love to hear some more info about this I hope the data I've provided is able to tell you that I do not believe it is your CMS that is harming you.
Download screaming frog and use it
sincerely,
Thomas

RE: Do image "lightbox" photo gallery links on a page count as links and dilute PageRank?
That makes complete sense when you put it through the campaign it stated to you that there were some issues with how many internal links you currently have.
I tend to agree with what is said in the tool about having over 300 links per page.
I know there our people that can set up a script for your gallery that could make that change if you want.
Check out GregReindel.com I think you're pretty safe with only 150 links however you really don't want to push it much over that.

RE: Wordpress & SEO Markup
PS
I see that you are in the United Kingdom one nice thing is if you use getflywheel.com they have a data center in London as does WPengine.com , Pagely.com Has a caching server there With Getflywheel.com also you have your own VPS and IP for every single site.
-
RE: Do image "lightbox" photo gallery links on a page count as links and dilute PageRank?
if you have 1000 links in one website page you can deter Google bot crawling your site and unless it has a high page rank. I have seen the same video that you're discussing about when Matt Cutts says that 3 years ago that was a big deal however no longer is Google shackled to that.
Check your Google Webmaster tools account to see how often your site is crawled.
Use screaming frog spider SEO it is a free tool you can find by googling the name and it will give you a ton of information on up to 500 pages for free.
I would worry about the way the site is coded if you need to put 1000 links in one page.
I still agree with Moz if you go over 300 it's not good.
Links to photographs are not considered external or outbound links meaning they do not link to Twitter or another website other than your own. So you will not lose page rank that way. I would put my trust in what is said by Moz it is based on a lot of testing in the real world so you can rest assured that this is not a guess or somebody's opinion.
All the best,
Thomas

RE: Wordpress & SEO Markup
• No icebergs you have complete control of the code. If you know HTML you have 2 choices you can either edit from inside the WordPress site itself on the backend. Or you can do it over FTP whatever your favorite option is. As far as things that it cannot do that are search engine related there's nothing I can think of that is a negative about WordPress aside from the fact that it has a database and in my opinion needs a managed WordPress hosting company After being placed on a managed WordPress host they are able to be faster than 100% HTML website.
Some advice use a managed WordPress host the security, speed and access to incredible free knowledge regarding WordPress is well worth it.
Read this fantastic post by a true WordPress expert Dan Shure of evolving SEO
http://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success
WordPress is ideal for search engines and if you want to see how quick they are use,
Check out any of the links I've given you below their all hosted on an assortment of different hosts however they will run very quickly.
This is worth the extra attention simply put these managed WordPress hosting companies will answer these questions as they are WordPress experts as well as a host.
My advice is to go forward with WordPress is an excellent platform Matt Cutts uses WordPress for his blog.
For creating the
Post titles and meta descriptions
Canonical link
Breadcrumbs
& more use http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/ it is free and the best. If you combine that with powerful hosting along with a good developer & preferably Genesis 2.0 HTML framework you will have one hell the site. The site the plug-in is found on above his made from Genesis 2.0
Check out the feature list:
- Post titles and meta descriptions
- Robots Meta configuration
- Canonical
- Breadcrumbs
- Permalink clean up
- XML Sitemaps
- RSS enhancements
- Edit your robots.txt and .htaccess
- Clean up head section
- API Docs
http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/
I would use the Genesis 2.0 framework it is 100% HTML 5 and will give you the ability to make whatever you want your site to be. I think it is the best framework on the market and well worth it. You can find it along with themes at studiopress.com
Also when you're in the studio press website you can learn quite a bit. If you are commissioning a designer and then a developer to make the design into a site. I would stick to Genesis 2.0 HTML 5 framework. Wootheams is also HTML 5 however if you're making a custom project I would strongly recommend making a Genesis-based website. In fact I have given you information on other WordPress sites below and all of them are built on Genesis 2.0
If you are looking for a developer I can recommend Gregreindel.com you can go to his site and see quite a bit about all aspects of WordPress code itself that he actually was instrumental in building the Genesis 2.0 framework making it available far before anyone else had it and even Yoast.com was built using his own code that was ahead of everyone else.
I strongly recommend him as a developer. He has just started his own agency literally the other day and has not completed the site yet however it is called AuthorityDev http://www.authoritydev.com/
Some other themes and framework companies to look at http://www.woothemes.com/ is a solid company as well. Look at Moz.com/perks for big savings on Woothemes the fact that Moz is such a Word press Pro site especially when it comes to perks 2 of the 3 hosting companies are managed WordPress hosts.
(If you use a Moz.com/perks host for WordPress I would not use any other host than Pagely.com 30% off for life or WPengine.com 4 months free hosting WordPress even though site ground says it is a WordPress hosting company & is a great host it just does not have the same WordPress only centric advice and performance as the other two.)
It has many excellent attributes for search engine optimization.
One thing I would recommend if this is your 1st WordPress site is using a managed WordPress hosting company.
WordPress has a database so it is slightly slower than HTML sites however by using not only will you a managed WordPress host not only will you gather back the speed you lost you will have a company with a tremendous amount of WordPress knowledge when you need it.
I would recommend Pressable (ZippyKid rebranded recently), WP Engine, Get Flywheel, Pagely and web synthesis as everyone of them will help you out with a lot more than just hosting your website.
Cost wise getflywheel.com only is $15 also look at moz.com/perks for discounts from the WP engine as well as Pagely. ZippyKid renamed as Pressable gives you a lot for the money web synthesis gives you free Genesis framework allowing you to buy themes for roughly $30. However you can purchase a theme for $100 that comes with the framework and if you want to buy additional themes you do not have to repurchase framework ever so it is your best fit. I can tell you get flywheel is very eager to help and the least expensive.
If you're worried at all about search engine optimization and WordPress being a bad thing for it I cannot think of anything other than what I've stated that is negative about WordPress. Remember it might be slower on a regular host and it should not in my opinion be hosted on a regular shared hosting platform, however it definitely can be if needed.
You will want to install the Yoast WordPress SEO plug-in it is one of the best on the market if not the best. There are 2 versions the premium and free version. The only differences the premium comes with an automatic 301 redirect ability and support. Other than that the free one is probably your best bet because the premium is $80.
If you would like to learn more about WordPress I would suggest checking out Yoast.com , GregRenidel.com, Webdevstudios.com
If I can help you in any other way with this please let me know. I prefer WordPress over any other platform currently and have tons of sites on many different hosts. So if you want to see what you can do with with WordPress check out a client's site Garrisonbespoke.com this was placed in studiopress.com as one of their top picks for Genesis-based websites. In addition the site stood up to 100,000 visitors last month when we made Time magazine and GQ. It is hosted on http://getflywheel.com/ , however I know that every host I just mentioned host capable of far more than that.
Sincerely,
Thomas

RE: Should I disavow nofollow links?
Honestly the only way I would do that is if you have then hit by a penalty that Google is told you about. And you can check this via the e-mail account attached to Google Webmaster tools.
Without that information, its very hard to understand why you disavow no follows or any links at all unless you have been hit with a penalty. Truthfully you are better off spending your time earning good links there worrying about no follows hurting you.
If you have been contacted by Google then told the you are penalized then they will need to see you've actually tried to contact the webmasters of websites with the offending links pointing to your site and ask the webmasters to remove the links. Rather they do it or not is up to them however if they are a spam directory or something of that nature when you disavow the links during the reconsideration request you must show that you at least tried to get them to remove these offending links.
However to be honest with you without that information I cannot tell you directly what the best method is for you.
However just to be clear if you are not affected by penalty don't waste your time with no follow links they will not harm your site and concentrate on earning links rather than getting rid of no follow links. Of course unless as was said they are erroneous to your business or harming you in any other manner.
Sincerely,
Thomas

RE: Installing Google Analytics tracking code on Landing Pages
You want to place the regular Google analytics JavaScript in right above the body tag.
If it is the new universal Google analytics I believe it must be in the head to work properly. However when you are actually copying the code they give you a you can read the directions and then what I suggest doing is going over whatever part of the site they reference for instance if it states this tag must be in between the
<header>and <header>tags copy the tag, then use the command + F on a Mac or control +F on a PC in order to find the tag that they suggest you place it above or under. It will either be in the header or above the body tag.
Hope this helps,

RE: Toxic Link Removal-Better to Pay an SEO Firm or Can I Do It Myself?
I agree with everything EGOL has said.
I hate to ask you this but did you contact this company because you are having problems or did they contact you?
Just so you know if you got a e-mail saying that your site has It's something wrong with it and they can fix it for X amount of dollars spam it right away. Those people are the bottom of the barrel that make everyone that does white hat search look terrible.
If they're very reputable firm am sure they would not mind being mentioned here. It also makes a big difference if you actually contacted them. And of course how is your site doing overall?
Respectfully,
Thomas

RE: Toxic Link Removal-Better to Pay an SEO Firm or Can I Do It Myself?
I think you have so much good information already stated that the only thing I can recommend is a service called removeem http://www.removeem.com/
They are owned by Virante a company that is recommended by Moz the reason I think their good pic is they have 2 choices one you can have them do the work which I think you might want to lean towards that this is a very serious thing that you're doing. Other than that you can save money and use their system but make the work a little bit easier on you. When you are removing links in this manner you want to be extremely careful that you do not hurt yourself in Google's eyes.
I would wait anymore but everything has already been said.
All the best,
Thomas

RE: URL Structure
you do not want to go crazy with words in the URL. Only use them when appropriate.
For instance I would honestly not start every URL with /lawsuit–example
As has already been said the content should do that. For instance if you have a page regarding a lawsuit you should put at least 2000 words on the page with maybe some video not YouTube see wistia.com/learning/advanced-seo-with-distilled
if you're going to use video.
I do think using a link structure that is clean and to the point. Will help you the most.
So example.com/keyword–keyword/ but do not feel like you have to stuff the link with keywords. After which focus on getting high quality relevant links pointed to that page as well as building high-quality relevant content.

RE: Should I deindex my pages?
I do not know how big your old site was however if you have just done this you may see some overflow as the website cache has yet to die away on the old site.
You can always use the way back machine or archive.com/.org I know it's one of the two
after that follow the guide in Moz along with using a tool like screaming spider frog SEO the free version covers 500 pages for free however the Pro version is required to do redirects but makes it so easy it's well worth it.
That Way you can find your old site the way it was. And what the names of links Used to be. However if you have correctly 301 redirected the old links to the new site. Meaning equivalent pages then this should not be an issue. You have to allow Google time to index your website as well as the index for your old site. Get rid of I would use the tool in Google Webmaster tools and tell Google that you have moved your website this will allow it to be indexed or for quickly. However it may be complicated to have that happen without a new domain.
It does not sound like a crisis to me. However only you know how you conducted the 301 redirects.
Sincerely,
Thomas

RE: Internal linking disaster
According to Google you have over 2000 indexed pages. However your site does not have any Extremely intuitive ways of allowing someone to navigate to those pages. I see the search directory. I would contact the developer and go through your entire site making sure that it will not prevent Google bot from crawling it

RE: Internal linking disaster
You're getting your "Ass kicked" as you It's said because you do not have more than 2 unique domains pointing to your website.
Total linking root domains are a very powerful metric. If you have more and they are from relevant powerful sites. You will do much better than your competitors. Your competitor has more root domains you have only to unfortunately you need to share content on social media and earn some links.
It is best practice to allow someone to link to your homepage or via your logo it's also smart to have your logo on every page.
This is a navigation link not a duplicate of something it only points to one page and that's the homepage. You can interlink all you want what I mean by that is I could link from my blog to my homepage inside the page. The text or as the developer has done correctly allowed people to instantly return to your home page by clicking on your logo.
Don't worry about it all,
Internal links are really about how many links you have that are facing out meaning links pointing out external links if you have over 300 that can drain your page rank and that has to be looked at on a page by page basis. Use the Moz toolbar to check.
It is a good thing the way to set up that the logo links to the homepage.
Lynn is correct http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/ It's is an ideal tool to use for this situation. Especially if you have the Pro version however if your site is under 500 pages the free version will give you all the information you need.
If you want to check the same thing over the web you may use this tool.
