My competitor sells the same thing as our company but is getting lots more clicks/revenue. What do I need to look at on this site to figure out how they are getting all of the business?

Thanks for your quick response. I've actually been tracking this company for the past few years...checking their prices/shipping, etc which all seems very comparable to ours (in the clothing business). Can I find on here what their top key words are that's driving their traffic? We also appear to come up on the 1st or 2nd page for most of our key words, but when I've looked at compete I noticed that they are receiving several more thousand clicks a month. We run adwords frequently (it seems to be even more than they do from our observations), so I don't believe their extra clicks are coming from there. Any help would be appreciated. We are a small business, just as our competitors are, so any help in advice for obtaining more clicks is appreciated!!

I like to answer questions here and respond to lots of them.
However, in this situation, I think that you are in a lot better position to come up with answers than anyone else. Plus, if you are really excited about this business you should be thinking about it all of the time, know your products incredibly well, have a constant eye on your competitors and be researching these answers yourself.
I am not trying to be a wise guy... just challenging you to come back with some ideas that you think might be possible answers. We don't even know what industry you are in so guessing is not a very good use of our time.
Now... just to let you know that you need to expand your thinking... the answer to your question might not be on this person's website. It might be were her ads are running and how much she is spending.
Plus, even if this competitor has the same amount of traffic that you do she might sell an awful lot more because of an excellent on-site presentation that converts more visitors into buyers, has more effective advertising, better prices, free shipping or some other value proposition that is missing from your business.

Competitor Keywords
Is there any way to find out what keywords my competitors are ranking for? I would like ideas for blogs, website content, etc. to drive traffic and am curious as to what topics my competitors are focusing on. I am able to see my competitors' rankings for keywords which I am currently tracking but I would like to see keywords they are ranking for that I am not tracking if possible. Any suggestions? Josh

Can deceptive ads help sites to rank? Pogosticking effect involved...

I have a question for you. I have noticed that many music sites that appear in the first top results for keywords our users search for, include all the same ads that deceive people by inviting them to "Download" or get the "Full Album" of what people may be search for. Look at the following websites that are often displayed at the first spots for keywords like "Christmas Sheet Music" (just an example): [....] They all have, most of the times, the same ads. http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/storage/google/Shot2.jpg Those deceptive ads could engage users more than legitimate websites not showing those ads or not showing ads at all, making Google think that people are more engaged on those website showing those deceptive ads. If it is quality that Google is looking for, shouldn't they do something to avoid having sites ranking well just because of some deceptive ads that take users into action, but without any useful result? How can stale, poor quality sites rank above fresh, high quality sites?
Dear Community, How is it that a Google search for temperature sensors shows the second result as site **A **(http://goo.gl/zRS1L) in a higher positionthan site B (http://goo.gl/3Xy2O) which is on the 2nd page of the SERPs. Site A blatantly does not follow Google's webmaster guidelines and recommendations for design, content or code. Site B scores an 'A' for on page analysis using SEOmoz, it also has a much higher number of root domains in and Moz rank, we have checked that site B has only quality inbound links, and anchor text is natural, it follows Google's guidelines for content and code diligently, and it is on an older domain. We are satisfied that site B has not been penalised by Google, e.g Penguin algorithm updates. We have also done a website verification with Google. Site B has fresher content compared to site A. Site B also has a sitemap yet site A doesn't. We're satisfied that we can rule out the following Algorithm Factors: Penguin algorithm updates Google Notified penalties Dodgy Inbound links Dodgy Anchor text Website verification with Google Fresh vs. static content Sitemap present Server Speed Server location Domain age and about 170 other algorithm factors Does anyone have any ideas as to why site A is ranking higher than site B in Google.co.uk? Alt image or allow /image in robot.txt
Howdy, Me and my co-workers had a discussion at lunch time. We wonder if we should allow /image in our robot.txt. We arent sure what rank best. Image whit keyword in it or simply had a Alt at each image and hide the /image in the robot.txt... or have a allow /image AND a alt source. P.S.
