Acquired Premium Domain, question about Brand name change related to SEO
-
We recently acquired a premium domain name
The domain we were operating on before had a lot of SEO done on it, as well as branding campaigns.
Now that we have the premium domain, would it be wise to start doing SEO on the premium domain and discontinue old domain promotions if we plan on changing the brand name?
to clear up any confusion, we own for example AAAFurnitureStore.com
we acquired the premium domain: AAAFurniture.com
should we redirect AAAFurnitureStore.com -> AAAFurniture.com
or since we already have established presence/brand do opposite and redirect
AAAFurniture.com -> AAAFurnitureStore.com
and keep the brand name same as "AAA Furniture Store"?

Yes... all of these are true... Good thinking!

Greetings Champions!
Couldn't the content or specific Niche the sites deal with also come into play, with the age of the domains? Considering some types of products require Age of the domain to be popular sellers? Also wouldn't the abandonment of the old site be a loss of resources since it is optimized? Just my brief thoughts.

Does AAAFurniture.com have any existing content, traffic, links, likes, youtube channel or other assets?
If it does not you can redirect AAAFurnitureStore.com to it if you want to simplify the name of your brand (and you are willing to sacrifice some of the effectiveness of your existing links and anchor text.
If AAAFurnitue.com has existing content, traffic, links, likes, etc then you must study carefully to take maximum advantage of these assets. Not a simple question.

How does the background on my product photos impact SEO - step and repeat vs. plain background
I have a new e-commerce site and I'm focused on optimizing it for SEO. If I am taking product photos, will having a step-and-repeat (background with our logo repeated) in the background of the product impact how the images are scanned by Google? In other words, would I benefit from having a plain background behind my item shots vs. a backdrop with our logos all across it? I don't want Google to think I'm spamming my logo across all our items, but also want our photos to be recognized as ours. I want to gain SEO from my effort and definitely not hurt it! Thanks!

No Domain Link In Press Release, What About Yelp?
Hi Moz, I understand that using a PR for SEO benefit is old-school, black hat, and largely outlawed by Google. We are simply trying to get our name pushed further into the local market, i.e., using a press release for it's natural intention. Our company offers free quotes through our site and the scheduling of jobs with new clients is largely done online. I think it seems silly NOT to have a link to our URL in the press release, but rather than poke Google, we're fine omitting it. However, would linking our Yelp near the end be a big deal? Yelp no-follows their URLs back to the company site so there isn't a risk with pumping up a support link through PR and we can provide SOME clickable link to our information. Thoughts?

Anybody else seeing branded organic traffic decreasing and direct traffic increasing? Anything to do with Google auto-filling URLs?
If so, what could the reasons for this be? Maybe because of Google auto-filling URLs? Thanks for reading!

1 Website, 2 Business Names, 2 Locations
I took on a dentist office as an SEO client. They have 1 website, 2 business names and 2 locations. Each location has it's own business name. They are both within the same city as well. I'm not exactly sure where to start with them since they have 2 different business names. If it were 1 name with multiple locations I would just create a Contact Us page for each one, but is that the best thing to do when the location names are different? Should I create a different website for each location or is that smart because then they are competing against each other? Any help from the community on the direction I should take would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How do can I compete with 60-80 Domain Authority?
As the title says, how can I compete with competitors that have a domain authority of 60-80? (Only around 2-3 major competitors) However I would like to compete with them. Is anyone else in this situation? What did you do? I've read a lot about building backlinks etc etc but surely theres more to it. I've got to rank 1500+ subcategories for my niche and it's nearly impossible to do so. Thanks to all who reply!

Business Acquisition: Balancing SEO and Customer Awareness
I'm looking for opinions on the following scenario: SuperWidgets buys GreatWidgets. That business acquisition involves the purchase of GreatWidgets.com, a standard but well-established website with some nice backlinks. The business acquisition is communicated to previous customers of GreatWidgets through the normal channels. What should be done with GreatWidgets.com. Re-direct to a splash page informing visitors of the acquisition? 301 page-to-page for directly relevant content? If a splash page, how long would you keep it up? Also, any opinions on how to handle any non-claimed local listings for the now-acquired business? Claimed ones will of course be handled, but what about the non-claimed and unclaimable?
