The Best Way to Market a Blog Post?
-
So . . . I've written a beautiful blog (or video or podcast or whatever . . . just take my word for it that it will be nominated for an Oscar, Webby, or Pulitzer very soon).
What's the best way to get the word out about it?
Let me rephrase that. I know I should tweet, post on Facebook, social networks etc cetera. My real question is, should I link to the home page (which is where my blog is located . . . it would show up there) or should I link to the specific page of the full blog post?
Seems to me, linking to the blog post directly gives me a better chance at tracking the success of the article in generating interest and traffic, but I was assuming linking to the home page helped pump up the importance of my overall site?
I still consider myself an SEO Noob so be sure to speak slowly and not use big words. Consider drawing pictures.

I agree with the above response. Linking to the article directly is the best method. In addition, consider what keywords people may use to search for it and link to the article using those keywords (called the anchor text).
You can link to it not only from your site but get other blogs to link to it. You can also create unique articles and submit those to article sites with your anchor text embedded in them, pointing back to our great blog post.
The word on the block is that Google loves unique content and that is true.
-
You are correct. Linking to the blog post directly is best. More people will see your excellent work that way. If you link to the homepage you are not delivering them to what you want them to see or what you have pitched to the visitor.
Linking to any page on your site will pump up the importance of your entire site - however the most power will go to the page that the link connects to.
Now... for marketing the blog post off site. It is best to target bloggers, facebookers, webmasters and others who will have a high interest in your post and market directly to them. But, the next time you are ready to create something go out first and decide where you want your links to come from and create content that is better than what they are already linking to. That will give you the highest probability of obtaining a link or a like or tweet or whatever.

Unsolved What should I do with WordPress Blog homepage
Hi, I have a large WordPress blog with thousands of posts. By default, the blog homepage contains the excerpt of each posts. As there are so many posts, the homepage is paginated(Totally 1341 pages) I use siteliner to check and find a lot of duplicate contents on the blog homepage. So, what should I do with it? Should I noindex the homepage and all the paginated pages accordingly? Thank you

Best way to optimize a website for local search today?
A real estate agent client has had a website for years, which he optimized to position himself as a national real estate expert (to get more TV and media exposure). Now he wants to be found for a more local real estate term, such as Westchester ny real estate. Should he add a page to his site that's focused on Westchester real estate, or would Google view that as spammy? Should he update older blog posts with relevant, useful content about Westchester? Any best practices and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thousands of 404's showing up from Wordpress Blog!?!?
Hey guys, Have recently seen thousands of 404 errors thrown up from my wordpress blog in Google Search Console. These are URL's trying to link (i'm not sure where from) to other parts of my site, but they are not relative to the site root... infact they are a mix of random folders/subfolders and pages on my site. E.g: http://www.MYSITE.co.uk/blog/how-to/driving-to-the-alps/attachment/2013-land-rover-range-rover-evoque-front-snow-1/st-martin-de-belleville/chalet-st-martin-de-belleville/ski-holidays/ski-holidays/summer/st-martin-de-belleville/summer/your-stay-st-martin-de-belleville.html This is a link to a picture on the blog: http://www.MYSITE.co.uk/blog/how-to/driving-to-the-alps/attachment/2013-land-rover-range-rover-evoque-front-snow-1/ And the rest of it is finding it's own way there! Any ideas? This is Wordpress by the way. Cheers, Paul. p.s. I got no help from the Wordpress community so am posting here! p.p.s I forgot to mention that MOZ is reporting these issues too, but running Screaming Frog does NOT show any 404's at all on my site...

Have you been outranked by a page that is inferior in every way imaginable?
Has this ever happened to you? You create an amazing piece of content to rank for a keyword phrase that you are targeting. The content is way better than your competitor's page but they are outranking you. You have a higher domain authority.

Your page has a higher page authority.
Your page and site has higher toolbar Page Rank.
Your page has more inbound links.
Your page has higher quality links.
You have more Twitter, Facebook, and Google plus shares.
etc., etc. But still you are being unranked and you can't find a single factor where your competitor is better. What can you do?0 -
What's the best way to handle crawling of photo gallery?
When you have a photo gallery with many search filters and loads and loads of pages, is it best to block all the filters and use google's pagination code? Ex: http://photo.net/gallery/photocritique/filter This site has pages for many different queries. While the page titles are unique, the pages are showing duplicated content.

Tags on blog post
I have just ran a report on SEOMOZ and it's came back saying I have over 1000 pages on my website with duplicate content, I thought wow that's not good, however when I looked at the report it was counting duplicate content because I have used more than one tag on a blog post, for example the blog post: www.example.com/blog-post/ Has the tags example 1 example 2 example 3 Meaning I have these URLs www.example.com/blog/tag/example-1 www.example.com/blog/tag/example-2 www.example.com/blog/tag/example-3 All 3 URLs above have the same content as www.example.com/blog-post/ because of the tags, is this a problem? Thanks

What is the Best Landing Page setup?
I have seen a few different types of landing pages. I am trying to figure out which style works best from a SEO perspective. 1. The cram everything possible onto the page approach ala nyt.com? 2. The fill your home page with a ton of links approach like cnn.com? 3. The put just a small sample of your content approach like seomoz? I see 4 blog snippets, a "Go To My Campaign" call to action and that's it. 4. Pages like Groupon.com which have 100% focus on a call to action. I also notice many focused pages like Groupon remove the header and footer on their landing page. Does that help the page retain it's PR better?
