Does anyone use/recommend the use of anchor text links in blog comments (on sites relevant to your sites market)?

I can tell you that the impact from some high-quality blogs will be to delete your comment if you're using your keywords as your name. There was recently an entire post on this at http://ariherzog.com/and-blog-comment-spam-continues/

Thanks for the case study. I wonder how much of the impact was the fact that zillions of posts showed up in 3 days, probably with unnatural anchor text (the same, over and over). Would the impact be the same if one manually entered comments on various relevant sites with varied anchor text?

I agree with Matt. A few weeks ago I would have consider these to be "low value".... Today, I consider them to be both "low value" and "dangerous".

Hi Mark - I don't use blog comments to build links and I wouldn't really recommend this as a way of building links with specific anchor text. The reason for this is that if you can do this then there are likely to be lots of others that are using it for manipulative practice. Your website might be full of great content, but there is a high chance others that have linked from this site aren't so great. Then when Google comes to look at the website that is linking to these bad/spam sites it is likely to either put no weight on the links or even start penalizing the sites that are linked to this site for manipulative linking building practice against the Google Webmaster Guidelines, your site will then most likely be hit as well.

How to deal with Good lost links
Hey, I have a problem with a website of mines. Lately, it has been loosing an imortant number of links (like 20-30 % of the while link profile). Those links are good and coming from relevant blogs with PA/DA >25 and majestic seo CF/TF > 20 . My question is: What's the best way to deal with those lost links ? I have 2 alternatives here: 1. I reach out to those bloggers (whith which i have good relationship) and as them to put the links back. (But i fear this can trigger a signal of bought links; smth like, "I didnt pay so i got my links removed the, and now as i paid again, here i get my links live again") or 2. I forget about those link sources and go search for new, fresh opportunities So, which option do you suggest here ? thanks

Is this a good way to create engaging content?
Hi all, I believe this is my first question in this forum, so be nice 🙂 I am an SEO consultant who has recently gone out and started my own SEO consultancy. Obviously, I now find myself in a place where I am trying to create good content for my website visitors. Maybe it's link bait, or more than likely it's a way to hold myself up as an expert in the industry, while providing visitors to my site some reason to keep on coming back. As I love whiteboard Friday, I did consider - and I'm not ruling it out in the future - creating my own whiteboard Friday videos discussing the SEO issues I was focussing on. In the meantime, I am thinking of posting up SEOmoz's whiteboard Friday videos and then making my own comments and insights for my website visitors. So, what I really wanted to ask - do you guys think this is a good idea, a valid way of creating good content and has merit/credibility? http://www.nustudio.com.au/local-seo-the-basics/ contains an example of what I am talking about. White Hat way to do blog commenting
Do you guys think careful blog commenting is still a valuable day-to-day linkbuilding tactic? If I create a list of relevant unspammed blogs, and spend maybe 30 minutes per day commenting on 3-5 of them per day, while making sure that they're not inundated with spammy comments - is that worth my time?

SEO Virgin - how shall I start ?
Hello everybody, I'm pretty new to this whole SEO world but Im willing to do my best to learn the most crucial things in order to optimize our site for it. I've purchased the pro option and hope to get some insights into areas that need to optimized in order to get a great ranking by google. I've already started with share linking and social media activities, in order to build up links to our sites. Since our community will be a specified media sharing portal, Im not quite sure how I should start the linking process besides posting some relevant articles on digg, delicious, facebook, etc, incl. relevant links and content... I read in some of your forums that you would not recommend to pay for links. So how shall I start with the onpage optimization and link building process ? Appreciate your help! Thanks a ton! M.
