How Fast Can You Rank a New Domain?
-
How long would it take to get a 1 page ranking for a new site after Penguin?
Thinking about starting fresh.
New site would have fresh content and keyword in the domain.
-
Thanks @Nakul for your useful input to this question.
Yes, agreed. -
Would starting a new site with sport tickets news and linking off that help?
-
Well for example there is Stubhub.com
How do sites get ranked for E-Com?
Putting out good content rather than posting on your own site?
-
When you said long tail keywords -
I have recently begun with my content and keyword selections.
I used the Adword's keyword tool and for eg: got a few keywords like
laser skin treatment
dermatology
dermatologists
cosmetic laser surgery
The competition for these are low and medium. Now what I understand is. If I wish to use them in my articles on content generation I can have them as medium and long tail keywords to write around.
So for eg: laser skin treatment = " Benefits of a laser skin treatment in India" and the url for this article could be /laser-skin-treatment
For dermatology = "best dermatology practices" url could be** /dermatology-practices**
Do the above happen to be the medium and long tail keywords? Am I going in the correct direction. How do I judge and come out with medium and long tail keywords. Please suggest
Thanks

My guess is that is going to be a tough one to start with nothing unless you've got something really great to add that is not already out there. Look at your keywords and look at the competition, then look at your content. Is your content better than what is already on the first page?
Do people looking for tickets care about current news and analysis, or do they care about tickets? Does your content match what your buyer wants to find?
-
The industry is tickets - sports tickets mainly - nfl so they would be team related websites.
Content would basically be blogs about the current news and analysis of players/games.

hello,
my website ranked in one month for "web design" in google.gr. It depends on quality and fresh content, content is king!
-
So simply put based on the amazing responses here, I would suggest to build your site (whatever your niche is) with long tail keywords, continue to build great content, and then over a certain period of time, once you have established a certain trust and domain authority, you could start ranking for a little bit better keywords and the cycle continues. It's simply a continuous process building a site and it's rankings. You would not want a brand new site with 5/10/50 articles ranking for Mortgage or Lamps or Cars or Loans.
I hope that helps and makes sense.
-
Seeing that there are only ten positions on the first page of google, your chances are not good.
-
We wrote freakishly similar responses at the exact same time. High five!
-
It completely depends on your site and the competition.
For example, if you're trying to complete for "super duper elephant lamp" then you can be on page 1 within a week. Frankly, you could probably have the #1 result in a week.
However, for a keyword like "lamp" you'd have a lot more trouble getting on that first page.
Basically, without looking into your specific niche, there's no way to give an educated answer.
-Phil
PS If anyone reading this happens to go into the "super duper elephant lamp" business then I expect to be paid royalties :).
-
No time at all if you want to rank for a 12 word phrase that nobody searches for, or if you use a search engine that is easily gamed. Eons if you are trying to rank on the first page of Google in the US for a generic one word keyword like "cars" or "loans".

Buying domains for the backlink profile: Still a white hat strategy?
There's a DR 51 domain we'd like to buy, with a quality backlink profile. We'd like to 301 redirect this domain to our DR 46 domain, and possibly setup something to make the user experience smooth for people expecting the old domain. Is this still a white hat strategy? How would you calculate the value/what kind of offer to make?

How do I get more video reviews on a new site?
Hi, I'm working on a site that has video reviews of various places. It's general information/experience that most people possess and production-wise they are selfies. These videos are then transcribed and, voila... searchable content. My problem is this... how do I get large numbers of people to go to the trouble to make a 2 minute selfie? I thought about HARO, since one could work in a plug for something, but they have a site traffic threshold that this new site isn't at. Any and all ideas on how to efficiently generate this content for a new site with very little traffic would be appreciated. Thanks!

New Service/Product SEO and rankings
Hello, fellow MOZers. We are a web design company, and we had SEO as secondary service for years. Due to changes in the company we started pushing SEO as one of our main services about 6 monhs ago. We have separate page , targeting that service, as well as case studies, supportive information pages, even SEO Center, which is like a blog about SEO only. We are not using black hat SEO, doing honest link earning and building, don't use keyword stuffing, everything is by the book. I understand that SEO takes time, especially for a company which has a footprint as web design company, not as SEO company. We are ranking very good for web design related keyphrases, however, we don't see any improvements for SEO related keywords. It always was and is between 25-30 SERP. At the same time, competitors, who are ranking on first page for SEO related phrases are pretty bad looking. Design-wise as well as blackhat-SEO-wise. Everything is keyword stuffed, UX is horrible, prices are ridiculous. So, do you guys have any thought/advise on how we can see results / why we are not seeing results. 301 redirects for 3 top level domains using WP SEO Yoast
Hey Guys I have a custom built website - and a wp blog attached to this - problem is there are 3 top level domains: zenory.co.nz, zenory.com and zenory.com.au **The issue is when I enter the domain to 301 redirect I only have to enter one domain usually i enter redirect from zenory.com/blog/oldpage to zenory.com.newpage ** For eg: I have just move Phone Psychic Readings from the blog - over to the main site. However there seems to be an issue that I'm still having and trying to clean up. I'm finding backlinks there are linking to each other of my 3 domains that end up backlinking across domains, which I was told this can look as spammy to google. For eg: co.nz links many pages to com.au. I'm currently trying to clean this up at the moment - however while im in the process of this - I find myself question when I'm creating the 301 redirects from the blog - but lets say I'm on the blog for zenoy.co.nz/blog/oldblogpost and when I click on a blog post - it redirects me to zenory.com/newarticlepost - because I have redirected it to .com - how can I redirect and make sure is going back to the right domain name to save myself from having to show this cross backlinks? Would gratefully appreciate any assistance on this tricky situation. Cheers Just

Change domains and start over?
We have a fairly new client who has taken part in many questionable SEO technique over the past few years (mainly buying links and directory web pages). In an effort to fix this they hired three separate SEO’s – we are the fourth. Over the past 3 months we have spent lots of time following best practice techniques to clean up and improve their rankings (including link removal requests but not yet disavow), and after some initially positive results, things are looking down again. Given Google’s apparent rolling algorithm updates and the mess we have found, we are wondering if the best option is to change domains and start over (downside is that they are in a highly competitive industry)? My other question pertains to a domain change and if we were to change from a plural to a singular, would that be enough for Google? (e.g from www.domains.com to www.domain.com). The idea is that we start the link building process again – but keep their brand intact. Really appreciate any feedback.
