How Fast Can You Rank a New Domain?
-
How long would it take to get a 1 page ranking for a new site after Penguin?
Thinking about starting fresh.
New site would have fresh content and keyword in the domain.
-
Thanks @Nakul for your useful input to this question.
Yes, agreed. -
Would starting a new site with sport tickets news and linking off that help?
-
Well for example there is Stubhub.com
How do sites get ranked for E-Com?
Putting out good content rather than posting on your own site?
-
When you said long tail keywords -
I have recently begun with my content and keyword selections.
I used the Adword's keyword tool and for eg: got a few keywords like
laser skin treatment
dermatology
dermatologists
cosmetic laser surgery
The competition for these are low and medium. Now what I understand is. If I wish to use them in my articles on content generation I can have them as medium and long tail keywords to write around.
So for eg: laser skin treatment = " Benefits of a laser skin treatment in India" and the url for this article could be /laser-skin-treatment
For dermatology = "best dermatology practices" url could be** /dermatology-practices**
Do the above happen to be the medium and long tail keywords? Am I going in the correct direction. How do I judge and come out with medium and long tail keywords. Please suggest
Thanks

My guess is that is going to be a tough one to start with nothing unless you've got something really great to add that is not already out there. Look at your keywords and look at the competition, then look at your content. Is your content better than what is already on the first page?
Do people looking for tickets care about current news and analysis, or do they care about tickets? Does your content match what your buyer wants to find?
-
The industry is tickets - sports tickets mainly - nfl so they would be team related websites.
Content would basically be blogs about the current news and analysis of players/games.

hello,
my website ranked in one month for "web design" in google.gr. It depends on quality and fresh content, content is king!
-
So simply put based on the amazing responses here, I would suggest to build your site (whatever your niche is) with long tail keywords, continue to build great content, and then over a certain period of time, once you have established a certain trust and domain authority, you could start ranking for a little bit better keywords and the cycle continues. It's simply a continuous process building a site and it's rankings. You would not want a brand new site with 5/10/50 articles ranking for Mortgage or Lamps or Cars or Loans.
I hope that helps and makes sense.
-
Seeing that there are only ten positions on the first page of google, your chances are not good.
-
We wrote freakishly similar responses at the exact same time. High five!
-
It completely depends on your site and the competition.
For example, if you're trying to complete for "super duper elephant lamp" then you can be on page 1 within a week. Frankly, you could probably have the #1 result in a week.
However, for a keyword like "lamp" you'd have a lot more trouble getting on that first page.
Basically, without looking into your specific niche, there's no way to give an educated answer.
-Phil
PS If anyone reading this happens to go into the "super duper elephant lamp" business then I expect to be paid royalties :).
-
No time at all if you want to rank for a 12 word phrase that nobody searches for, or if you use a search engine that is easily gamed. Eons if you are trying to rank on the first page of Google in the US for a generic one word keyword like "cars" or "loans".

Why would a blank page rank? What am I missing about this page?
In terms of content, this page is blank. Yes, there's a sidebar and footer, but no content. I've seen a page like this rank before. I'm curious if they're implementing something on the back-end I don't realize or if this is just a fluke? Etc. Also, the DA of the site is only a 15, so I don't think that's the reason. http://www.thenurselawyer.com/component/tags/tag/20-pasco-county-personal-injury-lawyers.html Thanks, Ruben

Sudden Drop in Keyword Ranking - No Idea Why
Hi Mozzers, I am in charge of everything Web Optimization for the company I work for. I keep active track of our SEO/SEM practices, especially our keyword rankings. Prior to my arrival at the company, in January of this year, we had a consultant handling the SEO work and though they did a decent job on maintaining our rankings for a hefty set of keywords, they were unable to get a particular competitive keyword ranking. This is odd because other derivations of that keyword which are equally competitive are all still ranking on page one. Also, full disclosure, they were not engaging in any questionable linking. In fact, they didn't do much of any link building whatsoever. I also haven't been engaging in any questionable content creation or spammy linking. We put out content regularly as we are a publicly traded company - nothing spammy at all. Anyway, one thing I tried since February was engaging in a social media sharing campaign among friends and coworkers to share the respective page and keyword on their Facebook and Google+ pages. To my surprise, this tactic worked just like natural search usually does - slowly and through the months I saw the keyword rank from completely invisible, to page 6, to page 3, to page 2, and finally onto position 6 page one as of just last week. Today, unfortunately, the keyword is invisible again :(. I am perplexed. It's tough to build links for our company as we are in the public and everything we do has to be approved by someone higher up. I also checked our webmaster tools and haven't seen any notifications that can give me clue as to what's going on. I am aware that there was a Penguin update recently and there are monthly Panda updates, but I'm skeptical as to whether or not those updates would be correlated to this because, at initial glance, our traffic and rankings for other keywords and pages don't seem to be affected. Suggestions? Advice? Answers? Thanks!

Article pages not ranking as well as they should
Hello, Our articles here are not ranking as strongly as they should. Could you take a look and tell me why? When I search for the exact article title we do not come up. We used to. Note our sitewide footer links to some articles in case that's the problem, but even articles not in the footer links aren't performing.

Do shady backlinks actually damage ranking?
That is, it looks like a whole bunch of sites got smacked around the penguin/panda updates, but is this by virtue of actually being hurt by google's algorithms, or by virtue of simply not being helped "as much"? That is, was it a matter of the sites just not having any 'quality' backlinks, having relied on things google no longer liked, which would result in not having as much to push them to the top? That is, they would have been in the same position had they not had those shoddy practices? Or was google actively punishing those sites? That is, are they worse off for having those shoddy practices? I guess the reason I ask is I'm somewhat terrified of going "out there" to get backlinks -- worst case scenario: would it just not do much to help, or would it actually hurt? Thanks!

Black Hat? Is it really possible my new client paid someone to SEO the word "here"?
I just took on a client and first thing I saw in Webmaster Tools was the dreaded "Unnatural Link Patterns" message dated Apr 7th, 2012. MajesticSEO is reporting 212 backlinks, OSE is reporting 251. Nothing out of the ordinary, in fact they only anchor text is their brand. However, we then ran an SEO PowerSuite Crawl and found 429 backlinks with 78.1% of links use the anchor text "here" and 77.9% of all links point to the same URL. If this is indeed true I can see why they got the message from Google. The company has admitted they hired a service to do SEO for $299/mo for several months but when they saw no results they quit. Could this company really have gone after "here". It not, I can't find anything that would give them the message they got from Google Webmaster Tools.

Can you set up a Google Local account under a PO Box?
I have a client that wants a Google local listing in a town he serves but does not have a physical location. Is it an issue to share an address with an existing company? Is is it better to use a P.O. Box? or is there a forwarding address company? Is this considered a black hat Local SEO tactic?
