Best Social Sharing Platform for B2b sites
-
Guess that title of the question says it all. What is the best social platform for dull b2b sites? The kind of content that you wouldn't want to share with your friends and family.... Not that type of content before anyone gets the wrong idea

Result!

Thanks Mat, you have actually given me a great idea for an article.

I've just watched a stunning video about how to de-rag a pump in 2.5 mins! OK - I'll admit you've got a challenge on your hands.
I'll assume for a moment that a link based piece that focuses on all the innuendo surrounding pump deragging is out of the question. However I can't help think that there is a slightly naughty tumblr to be had here pulling off some meme type images.
The video I just watched seemed to be based entirely on the sales pitch of speed. Is that something that you could do an interesting thing around? Maybe a video of a deragging race? Or one of someone deragging a pump in less time than it takes to boil a kettle (ending with them sitting down for a cup of tea to underline the time saving).
Probably not quite right - but it shows that dull topics don't have to be presented in a dull way.

Thanks Mat. Maybe I was approaching the question the wrong way round. I should make the dull content more interesting rather than trying to promote dull content.
If you're interested Google 'pump de-ragging' this is the kind of $ÂŁ** I have to deal with.
btw: FollowerWonk is a great tool.

I know it's easier said then done, but is there something you can do to make it interesting ? Think some sort of interesting infographics or something that could make it interesting enough to be shared. That reminds me of another seomoz user, who's active here and also written about it - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/a-small-success-story-inspired-by-seomoz-and-its-contributors

Wow - sounds like a fun project! Are people really going to share anything that dull though? Sounds like the content is the issue not the platform.
I'll assume you mean "niche" rather than "dull". If it is interesting to the target audience then you have a chance. If not then you're stuffed whatever platform you use. Â So - interesting, but only if you are the right type of geek.
You just need to find where those geeks are hanging out. I tend to find twitter is good for those smaller niche groups, but that is partly because they are easier to find thanks to tools like followerwonk. It is very dependent on the niche though.

What is the value of having a social media feed displayed on your website?
This is something I asked myself this evening. You see a lot of sites with a Facebook or Twitter feed displayed, but I struggle to understand their value. OK, it shows that you are active on this or that social media channel, but unless you are posting great content consistently on the social media displayed, the impact of your feed could detract from the web page it is displayed on. It could also cause a visitor to that page on your site to click away from your site into the noise and distraction of that social media channel. I don't have an issue with using social media icons to link to your channels, but they are more discreet and the sort of thing people will look for if they are interested enough in your web pages to want to connect with you. Also, social sharing icons are good, but I do not see the value in social media feeds. Do you agree or disagree? I am more than will to be persuaded otherwise. Thanks in advance,

B2B Social Media Creeping
I recently posted an (insightful) comment in a LinkedIn group. I can see that someone from this group has taken a look at my profile, so I'm assuming that they read my comment and they were at least a little intrigued as to who exactly I was. I would regard this person as a prospect. Maybe a slightly unlikely prospect as there's a couple thousand miles that separate us geographically. I'm wondering what sort of etiquette/best practices there are for connecting somehow with this person/company. Initially I thought I'd follow them on Twitter, maybe like them on Facebook, but they have no such presence. I like the idea of connecting with them that way because it's a 'soft' connection - not too aggressive. Doing something like emailing or calling and saying 'Hey, saw that you looked at my LinkedIn profile', seems creepy & desperate. Even sending an invitation to connect seems a little too forward. I feel the only thing to do is to continue to involve myself in this group by posting thoughtful & insightful comments in order to get noticed further that way.

Images on Social Media - Can they be Optimized?
My company has been sharing images on its Facebook and twitter outlets which are getting a lot of shares. It seems to be the only thing really working for us. Is there a way to optimize this or use it to our advantage for our website? Or is this just something that will help me gain some edge rank in Facebook?

Who to aim an on-site blog at?
I've recently joined a web-development and social media company as their SEO; with an onsite blog which we're trying to resurrect. Previously, the blog has been aimed mainly at either clients ('Why is a website important for your business' etc. - I know, I know) or web developers (quick tutorials on css techniques, for example). The owner of the business recently approached me about the blog posts I'd been writing and said they were too technical and aimed at the wrong people. I'm always open to constructive criticism, but I want to know who a web development, social media and SEO company's blog should be aimed at. I was perhaps assuming knowledge of SEO and web techniques that not his previous readers may not have. However, I don't really think the blog had any significant number of readers before. My argument is to aim it at those in the industry of SEO and social media, as this will garner more links and position ourselves as an authority (people learning from our blog, arguing and contributing their opinion on something). Whereas a blog aimed at clients, while it may attract some search traffic, is less likely to be linked to because they're clients who don't know about linking to content on the web.

Social Media Approaches for a Pest Control Company
Hi Everyone, I am working with a pest control company that is looking to branch out into social media. Â Their primary goal is to connect with their existing customers to improve retention. Â The secondary goal is to potentially pick up new clients. With that said, I wanted to see if you all had some ideas on things that they could tweet/facebook about on a regular basis? Â Posting about bugs on a daily basis gets pretty boring. I know Rand has been talking a lot lately about not being so narrow, so maybe we should talk more about general home improvement? Â Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks! EDIT: I should clarify that this is a company that has maintenance plans. Â You don't call them only when you have a problem. You sign up with them, and they treat your property every 3 months, or whenever you call. Â Only about 2% of their customer base is one-off phone calls to fix 1 problem and never come back again. I don't think their existing customer base will have any issues with Liking them on Facebook or following them on Twitter. The initial plan is to incentivize them to do so, but once we get the like/follow, we want to continually be in front of them with interesting content, contests as Jay suggested, etc.
