Post Pinguin Onpage Optimisation - How Do I Build the Perfectly Optimized Page?
-
Hello,
So far I always follow the recomendations of the chocolate donuts example of Rand Fishkin on the Blogpost: How Do I Build the Perfectly Optimized Page?
I also think that the onpage grades follow this rules.
Do you think this is still all true after pinguin?
Personally none of my websites have been afected by the update and I have an A grade on all my landing page.
What do you think about the image alt text. Is it still a good idea to use the keyword?
Are there any newer resources here on SEOMOZ (I didn't find any with my search)?
Thanks for sharing your experiences..
Regards

Thank you very much.
As I said I use this guide for several years and for me it apears to work well but for SEO it's always important to stay on the top of things.

AI agree with alice, I also like to add that the reasons for these updates is to fight search engine manipulation. SEOmoz is pro natural looking sites. These are guidelines however they are not rules.
If you look at a site like Zappos you can see that they do not follow the best practices for the report card however they are branded well and they built their site for users not bots.

Hi Daria, in my opinion Rand's guide is still one of the best around. It may be three years old, but like most good white hat advice it has proved itself to have a fairly long shelf life. Good luck!

Duplicate page content
These two URLs are being flagged as 98% similar in the code. We're a large ecommerce site, and while it would be ideal to have unique product descriptions on each page we currently don't have the bandwith. Thoughts on what else might be triggering this duplicate content? https://www.etundra.com/restaurant-parts/cooking-equipment-parts/fryers/scoops-skimmers/fmp-175-1081-fryer-crumb-scoop/ https://www.etundra.com/restaurant-equipment/concession-equipment/condiment-pumps/tablecraft-664-wide-mouth-condiment-pump/ Thanks, Natalie

Updated page not ranking.
Hi Guys. Bit flummoxed by this. I've recently updated our Mid year diaries page to be this years mid year products. i.e) Diaries that go from 2015-16 not 2014-15. Last year we rank really well for the search term 'mid year diaries 14-15'. All i've done is update the page to be focused on 2015-16 diaries, but when i type in 'mid year diaries 15-16' it's no where to be seen in the SERP. Even our home page is ranking higher! I'm really puzzled about this, nothings changed apart from the year! The only reason I can think of is that Google is reading the file name of the images which are related to lasts years products? For example the file name might say mid year diary 2014-15. Do you think this is what's effecting us? Very puzzling 😕 I've submitted it through Webmaster tool btw 🙂 Isaac.

Keyword Optimisation
In terms of on page optimization for Key words, should I be trying to optimise the page for all the keywords in my adwords campaign, which is approximately 200… or just the words that generate the most click throughs, etc

Local search optimisation
One of the major keywords in our industry “fireplaces” is now viewed as a local search phrase & Google seems to be displaying website results that it views to be local businesses. We have 2 stores, and for some reason they do not appear high on the rankings despite us having a physical location near by... can anyone help? Also, we have a verified location on Google place, but even that doesn’t appear.

How far back do you need to optimize your blog posts?
We are going through a clients blog history as they are entering a redesign phase for the blogs. We are trying to determine how far back we need to optimize past blog posts so that they can be found easier on search engines. Is it better to optimize the past years? 2 years? 6 months? only the top posts? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Danger of over optimizing
We have all read about the dangers of over optimizing our sites. Specially in regards to the latest google update. Every time we created a new landing-page we typically made sure that the page get an A-grade using the SEOmoz On-Page Optimization tool. Does this mean its not a good idea to do this? Maybe aim for a less perfect score? Hope to hear from you Fredrik

Hi Guys, I was listening to the over optimization penalty Matt Cutts was talking about at SXSW over at Search Engine Land. http://searchengineland.com/too-much-seo-google%E2%80%99s-working-on-an-%E2%80%9Cover-optimization%E2%80%9D-penalty-for-that-115627# Looking at my on-page reports through SEOMOZ I have A report cards for each page, will we be OK or do we need to take a look? Thanks, Scott

Page titles and descriptions
A website has several wigets to show Each wiget with its own page The wigets mostly just vary in size How would you suggest titles be done? Example: Wiget 1ft Wiget 2ft Wiget 3 ft an so on........ Would this trigger a duplicate content issue given “Wiget” leads in the page title?
