Site-wide/Blogroll Anchor Text Linking

I have some blogs that I own with 10,000+ indexed pages of content. I have wondered for sometime if adding anchor text links for my clients on relevant blogs would be helpful or harmful. I realize that having an anchor text link on ONE article page in context is better than 10,000 anchor text links on my blog roll or footer, but I have been reluctant to use this strategy due to the bad press site wide and blogroll links have gotten,
What has been YOUR experience with this method?

I never request links.
I spend 100% of my time on content and links appear as gifts from people who like what I create.
So, I can tell you with great certainty about the anchor text that appears on natural links. The links that I receive do not come from anyone who is thinking about SEO or has received any incentive to link to my site.
Almost all of the links that point to my site have "mydomain.com"...... "here"...... "this"..... "video"..... "photos".... as anchor text.
When the anchor text is a keyword it is usually a single word such as "Chicago" or "diamonds".
So, when I hear google talking about cracking down on "overly SEOed websites"... I am thinking that they could easily do that be removing the credit given for anchor text links. That's what would happen if I was the boss at Google.

Absolutely, when the link is originating as a point of interest, but if you ask for the link then I believe you could arrange it to be a keyword rather than the url.

My blogs are in the blogroll on many other blogs. Every one of those links has my domain as anchor text. None have a keyword as anchor text. From my experience it is really rare to get a keywords as anchor text on blogroll links.

I think it's more of how many links in total you have on the page and what links are they.
External links, if used wisely with the right keywords and not a massive number shouldn't cause any damage, therefore it is pretty important that if you put the link to the external page that specialises in say Pharmacy, then page the link originates from is also covering the same / similar topic. This approach works for me and I'm pretty sure that if you find the good balance between the type of a link and the total number of outgoing links you'll be just fine.

Removing links from rubbishy 'blog' sites

http://womansonlineblog.org I have already tried emailing a hundred or so with a manual link request - with zero outcome. Hardly surprising when you consider the types of sites they are. I've had a quote for a link removal service, but I'm not sure if it's wise to pay someone to do this work - not sure what resources/tools they would have above and beyond what I can access and there could be increased risk. How to handle bad DoFollow links to pages on my site that no longer exist
I briefly had a forum on one of my sites, but after getting inundated with spam I decided to remove it for the time being. During the brief time it was up, most of the spammers were stopped from registering, but a few managed to get through and posted tons of links to their prescription drug sites. These posts were deleted almost instantly, but the spammers also created DoFollow backlinks on high authority community sites like ning. The forum posts they linked to were deleted immediately, so the links never went anywhere and the forum has been deleted entirely for a few months now. When clicked, the spam backlinks now bring someone to a "Sorry, that page doesn’t exist" page on my site. My site suffered a bit in the last Panda update and it made me look through my backlink profile, finding lots of these links - even though the pages on my site are long gone, could these links be hurting my site? Can a DoFollow link to a site help or hurt the main domain, even if the actual page it's linking to is deleted?

Are Links/Resources pages considered spam?
I'm dabbling with link building in a non link-happy industry, traffic safety (IE Traffic cones, barricades, safety vests, etc...). We currently are doing #RCS in terms of giveaways for college students as well as discounts in a wider EDU Outreach campaign as well as legitimate guest posting. I have started to use Link Prospector, and got a list of links/resources pages that we can get info from. I found some great links through here, including ways to get links from higher-profile .gov domains, but was wondering if it is worth it to go after the high(er) quality links/resources pages. By higher quality, I usually set a floor of a DA 25-30 and have a limited amount of external links per page. These would be for branded keywords (IE the company name/domain) and not exact match anchor text. I'd really like to see how other SEOs feel about this. Exact match anchor text is negative signal?
Hi all, I am wondering if the exact match anchor text is 100% negative signal after the penguin. I mean even from relevant sites and natural use. During the last 2 weeks I see negative SERP changes and I start to think that it is because exact match keyword anchor text is used. I also use some other anchor texts along with it all the time.. but now I think of using 100% exact match anchor free links. Does anybody have similar observations? Thank you in advance.

If Google truly penalizes sites for bad linking, could my competitor sabotage me?
I am sure this has been discussed before (I am new). I am very paranoid about upsetting Google with questionable SEO practices. The white hat people sometimes claim that google will penalize you for bad linking, paying for links, buying social bookmarks etc. If this is true, could my competitor do this for my site to lower my rankings? I would never know about it until it was too late. If they can't do this to me, then what's to stop me from doing it to my own site? Maybe I am missing something here. Thanks for your input.

How to know whether linking to a site is valuable or not
Hi Guys, I've been checking for some people to write articles for my site. They are writing articles on their own sites.
