404 errors on page urls that don't even exist
-
I am getting a lot of errors on pages with urls that aren't even legit. Like for example:
/videos/support/index.asp
No such path even exists like this on the site. I have a /videos and /support off root but no place on the site is there any reference or file at location /videos/support/index.asp so I get a lot of 404 duplicate page errors. This is just one example of several. How do I stop this?
-
I think, maybe correct me if I am wrong. It seems like the crawl is getting confused with relative links and I have noticed some issues with this in the iis7 server that GoDaddy provides or maybe it's just a iis7 thing all together. So it's almost like it's taking links from a side menu in one part of the site and trying to apply them to other parts of the site. Sounds crazy right, but absolute links seems to have cleared it up.
Sound like anything you've heard of before?

If you'd like to post the URL/share here, I would love to take a look. Also include what 404 URLs are being found etc. If not here in public, feel free to PM me. Whatever you prefer.
You can email the seomoz team at help@seomoz.org, I am sure they'd be able to help you diagnose the problem.

Then check with SEOMoz directly -their team is great. I know Google will try to make URLs based on your structure as it searches for content; I have no idea if Moz does the same or if one of their tools may be acting wonky.
So either they are and can confirm it (or give you some other insight) or they are on your site and their crawler found them.

They are in campaigns from seo moz. I don't believe for a second the links to these urls are inside the web site cuz there are just far too many of them.

I am guessing these are coming from the Google Webmaster Console ? If that's the case, click on the detail and see where it's linked from. That will help you diagnose how the bots are able to find these pages in the 1st place.
I hope this helps.

AMP Session Stitching - How to deal with Google's Client ID AMP Policy
Hello, I recently attended SMX East and the concept of 'session stitching' for AMP was brought up (https://www.stonetemple.com/amp-tech-guide/). I reached out to my development team and they told me they could do it, but that we would need to agree to the new TOS changes and making users aware of then... https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/7486055 Has anyone here done something like this? And if so how did you deal with the Google's Client ID AMP policy? Thank you all! -Margarita

Setting up Google Analytics default URL
If someone has set: the default url in Google Analytics to a non-www address (http://mysite.com) then placed the UA tracking script from that GA account within the CMS framework of the website... ... and then set the permanent 301 redirect in the htaccess file to redirect to the www address (http://www.mysite.com). How less accurrate will my GA analytics measurements be considering the default url within GA is non-www and the permanent 301 redirect in htacess is to the www-address? Anyone know how reliable GA reports are until the default url in GA analytics is changed to match what is the redirected url in htaccess file? _Cindy

Duplicate page content
I have a website which "houses" five different and completely separate departments, so the content is separated by subfolders. e.g. domain.com/department1 domain.com/department2 etc. and each have their own individual top navigation menus. There is an "About Us" section for each department which has about 6 subpages (Work for us, What we do, Awards etc.) but the problem is that the content for each department is exactly the same. The only difference is the navigation menu and the breadcrumbs. This isn't ideal as a change to one page means having to make the change to all 5 and from an SEO perspective it's duplicate content x5 (apart from the Nav). One solution I can see is to have the "About Us" section moved to the root level (domain.com/about-us) and have a generic nav, possibly with the department names on it. The only problem with this is that it disrupts the user journey if they are forced away from the department that they're chosen. Basically i'm looking for suggestions or examples of other sites that have got around this problem, I need inspiration! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Huge Ranking drop without touching the page
I was ranked #5 for the keyword "Become a Sportscaster" - had been in the top 10 for months, then all of a sudden dropped to #46. I haven't touched this page in a few months, so I don't think I messed anything up. Any thoughts on why such a dramatic drop would happen? Brian Clapp Founder, SportsTVJobs.com

Search within search? Weird google URLs
Good morning afternoon, how are you guys doing today? I'm experiencing a few Panda issues I'm trying to fix, and I was hoping I could get some help here about one of my problems. I used Google analytics to extract pages people land on after a Google search. I'm trying to identify thin pages that potentially harm my website as a whole. It turns out I have a bunch of pages in the likes of the following: /search?cd=15&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&source=www.google .co.uk, and so on for a bunch of countries (.fi, .com, .sg, .pk, and so on, maybe 50 of them) My question is: what are those pages? their stats are awful, usually 1 visitor, 100% bounce rate, and 0 links. Do you think they can explain my dramatic drop in traffic following Panda? If so, what should I do with them? NOINDEX? Deletion? What would you suggest? I also have a lot of links in the likes of the following: /google-search?cx=partner-pub-6553421918056260:armz8yts3ql&cof=FORID:10&ie=ISO-8859-1&sa=Search&siteurl=www.mysite.com/content/article They lead to custom search pages. What should I do with them? Almost two weeks ago, Dr. Pete posted an article untitled Fat Panda and Thin Content in which he deals with "search within search" and how they might be targeted by Panda. Do you think this is the issue I'm facing? Any suggestion/help would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot and have a great day 🙂
