Nav / Sitemap Question. Using a "services" page vs just linking directly to individual service page?
-
Okay, so our company offers video production, web design, and web marketing services. While we do offer these services individually, our goal is to get our clients to integrate these services together.
Our nav is currently like so :
home - about - video - web design - web marketing - blog - contact
Now I've seen businesses and agencies also use a nav with a "services" button instead of listing out their service offerings (if they have more than 1, like us). The services button usually links to a category page or has a drop down with links to the company's individual services.
I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a main services page like this and linking to the individual pages off of it (video ,web design, marketing, etc).
Or if we should just keep it the way we have it now (since we've already got some page authority on the individual service pages).
I know this may not be the most important aspect of our site and we may be over-thinking it but any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

It depends how many services you offer. Right now you're listing 3 and that fits fine in your navigation, but at some point you may want to add more services.
I think what you're doing now works, but I'd create a services menu if you have other services.
We can only give you opinions on this forum, so you should test both and see what works better.

I think you are probably over-thinking this one. Adding another all-in-one services page isn't likely to move the needle. Instead of thinking about making another page I would focus on the ideas Doug is suggesting in creating link-worthy content ideas that show use cases for your products/services. For example if you do a case study featuring one of your customers and how you helped them you could probably get it picked up on a few relevant industry blogs and also get your customer to share it socially and maybe even link back to it from their blog. I would focus on giving people reasons to link to your content!
Hope this helps!

Hi, I'd take a step back and think about what your customers are looking for.
You've got to find a way to joining the dots between the problems your customers are trying to solve (their goals) and the services you offer.
If they're looking for something that's going to "get them more business" then they won't necessarily jump to the conclusion that they need video, from you!
This is where you need to have additional pages that connect the things that you can do with the goals of your customer.
So as well as creating individual services pages (which explain the things that you do, and the benefits of your services) you also need to create offerings or solutions pages.
Here you can explain your value proposition, the benefits of your approach and how you can utilise the various services that you offer to deliver the goals that your customers are seeking
Do you target specific niches? for example, web marketing for dentists - You can optimise these offering pages for these niches (both keywords and conversion. You can have a much more relevant conversation with the prospect and show that you understand the particular problems/issues that exist in their niche/industry.
Individual service pages are great for targeting those customers who already know what they want - but you're really talking to people further down the conversion funnel...
If you met your customers in person - how would you sell your offerings....
Does that help at all? Probably not!

Infinite Scrolling & "Long Scrolling" same or different??
Can anyone please confirm for me the difference if any, between site design that incorporates Long Scrolling and Infinite Scroll? I was told (by an unnamed source) these were different designs and that "long scrolling" is better for SEO . However, in all my research I am unable to prove there is any difference between the two. I understand Infinite scroll may include Ajax, but does that mean Long Scrolling does not? If anyone has any references or can supply any further education here, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Main page redirect affecting search results?
Question.... A recent change was made to our page www.BGU.edu by a marketing person. So now when you type in www.BGU.edu it actually redirects to a different page www.BGU.edu/inquiry This is a really bad idea isn't it? I do not know enough about SEO to know a lot, and just joined SEOmoz but do I need to tell the admin to change it back?

Best Practice issue: Modx vs Wordpress
Lately I've been working a lot with Modx to create a new site for our own firm as well for other projects. But so far I haven't seen the advantages for SEO purposes other then the fact that with ModX you can manage almost everything yourself including snippets etc without to much effort. Wordpress is a known factor for blogging and since the last 2 years or so for websites. My question is: Which platform is better suited for SEO purposes? Which should I invest my time in? ModX or Wordpress? Hope to hear your thought on the matter

Sites went from page 1 to page 40 + in results
Hello all We are looking for any insight we can get as to why all (except 1) of our sites were effected very badly in the rankings by Google since the Panda updates. Several of our sites londonescape.com dublinescape.com and prague, paris, florence, delhi, dubai and a few others (all escape.com urls) have had major drop in their rankings. LondonEscape.net (now.com (changed after rank drop) ), was ranked between 4th & 6th but is now down around 400th and DelhiEscape.net and MunichEscape.com were both number 1 for several years for our main key words We also had two Stay sites number 1 , AmsterdamStay and NewYorkstay both .com ranked number 1 for years , NewYork has dropped to 10th place so far the Amsterdam site has not been effected. We are not really sure what we did wrong. MunichEscape and DelhiEcape should never have been page 1 sites ) just 5 pages and a click thru to main site WorldEscape) but we never did anything to make them number 1. London, NewYork and Amsterdam sites have had regular new content added, all is checked to make sure its original. **Since the rankings drop ** LondonEscape.com site We have redirected the.net to the .com url Added a mountain of new articles and content Redesigned the site / script Got a fair few links removed from sites, any with multiple links to us. A few I have not managed yet to get taken down. So far no result in increased rankings. We contacted Google but they informed us we have NOT had a manual ban imposed on us, we received NO mails from Google informing us we had done anything wrong. We were hoping it would be a 6 month ban but we are way past that now. Anyone any ideas ?

Question about web site structure
Is there an SEO advantage for individual pages to be in sub folders vs not being in a folder? Of course site managemnt is easier with folders if you have 100;s of pages...clearly a shorter URL is easier for humans to naviagte. store.com/gadgets store.com/lasers vs. store.com/gadgets/lasers
