For years in top 3 organic for most popular keyword; now 17th :(
-
For years, my website was in top 3 organic positions for out most popular keyword; now after the latest google algorithm update we are 17th
This is severely affecting our sales and I need ideas on how to improve our position.
What areas do I need to look at to help correct this drop in organic ranking?
My website is **r a d i a n t g u a r d . c o m **
Thanks, Rhonda

Something I forgot to mention --- I tried going to your site from your profile and the link was broken. Might wanna fix that. It goes to http//www.---- (colon is missing)
Good luck!

Seriously. It will honestly be incredibly beneficial and may in itself get your rankings improved.
When I joined my current company they were hesitant to change their website for the same reasons. I rebuilt the site and launched it a few months ago and we have seen drastic improvements in ranking and conversion ever since.
Go for it! My money says you'll see a marked improvement.

We've been hesitant to change much for fear of losing rankings.
Glad you are looking into a new design.
Instead of going into this with a feeling of fear, try to change your mentality to a "we are going to make major improvements in the design, major improvements in the SEO and major improvements in the conversion rate."
Start thinking Win, Win, Win as you do this and bring in expertise if you feel that you need help in one or more areas. Invest one time and reap the benefits for years.
(I strongly agree with Jesse about the design. It is really labor-intensive to look at your products. I can imagine visitors landing and leaving immediately. I would.
Keep in mind that you are selling a techie product and techie people are probably the buyers. You don't want to look like a noob.

Thanks guys! It's been a couple of years since we've updated our website. We've been hesitant to change much for fear of losing rankings. Guess that's not a problem now. I'll look into a face-lift.

Hi Rhonda,
Have to agree with Jesse, even if you complete the SEO, it's not too much point having a website at the top of Google with lots of traffic that can't convert based on the design.
Fix up internally, while you build and expand externally. It will require a sustained commitment to SEO and online marketing as your competition will continue working also.

Well it sounds like you have competition now. Time to start a link building campaign, grow some strong original content via blogs/youtube/social media and get people to organically link to your site. IE - SEO-it-up!
Slightly unrelated - When was the last time your site had a face lift? Not to be critical, but I'd suggest perhaps looking into modernizing the layout a bit better. It looks old and dated and a bit clunky. For a brief moment I thought you were using frames... it's like that. The big banner in the middle at the bottom is full of horribly pixelated images and the layout is worn.. Again, not trying to be mean I'm just saying UX is everything.

Exact keyword vs connecting words.
Hi guys, I'm wondering if there's a huge difference between exact keywords vs connecting words. i.e. "limo service chicago" vs " limo service in chicago" or something similar. It's tough to have 4+ keywords on a page sound great without using some form of connecting word. Will google still rank the page as high if I use connection words in a few instances of the keyword? Or should I just leave the exact keyword fir all instances. Thanks in advance. Aron

Positioning the keyword in two pages
Hi there! I've decided to use four criteria (keywords) for my website. The "problem" is that I have to use the same keyword (criteria) in two different pages. Is there a problem If I do this? On the other side, there are two sections of the web that (I assume) must have title and description tag as well as a keyword/criteria (Contact and Registration)....any advice?¿should they have a ttile and a description?¿Should they have a keyword associated? Thanks in advance for the answer.

Are plural & singular versions of keywords considered repeats ?
Hi Are plural and singular versions of keywords if used in same page element such as a title tag considered as a keyword repeat ? How naughty are keyword repeats in title tags ? I personally think that so long as the page content justifies their existence in title then should be fine. I ask because i hear talk that one should avoid kw repeats in title tags, but surely in cases like the below example its ok ? If i were to give this page: www.leisurecentres.com/uk-leisure-centre-guide This title tag: UK Leisure Centre Guide | Leisure Centres Surely thats ok ? Cheers Dan

Can you expound why i have to avoid using meta keywords?
I'm using the on page report card and it tells me that i have to avoid using meta keywords.I'm a little bit confused. I thought that it's important to use it all the time so search engine can better index the site. if I use SEO Quake it will tell me in the diagnostic test that I need to input keywords.

I have two pages ranking for the same keyword.
The index page and the targeted landing page for that keyword. They have different content, title, meta but I am competing with myself for the main keyword in the industry. What is the best way to fix this? 301 the keyword page to the index page?

Top Level Category Pages
On certain sections e.g. Top Level Brand Pages i would like to include history, images of products in use, videos, and possibly even a timeline of the manufacturers history. Being that its a store this would push the products quite a bit lower on the page. Can i still have a great positive effect if its below the product listings?
