Lawyers or Solicitors when Key word research feels like splitting hairs
-
Buongiorno from 16 Degrees C wetherby UK
What if a client wants to rank for commercial solcitors & commercial lawyers regardless of the best argument you could present. Isee this as a problem as semanticall lawyers & solicitors semantically mean the same thing like ATM & cashpoint, cab & taxi
So your left stuck with two phrases both menaing the same thing and you have to create physical web pages.
Do you A
Create pages just about commerciual solicitors
& Create Pages just about commercial lawyers
Do you B
Create & blended page with copy focused on Laywers & solicitorsHelp my head hurts http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/confused.jpg

If you plan to attack with a five page website then it is going to be pretty hard to cover these keywords. However, if you are attacking with a blog and lots of diverse content in this niche then you just mix up the terms but strongly favor the one that produces volume and conversions.

If the client is so hard headed that even after you've explained to them how hard headed they are--and that they may not get the ROI they're hoping for out of this tactic, they still insist, then I'd focus you efforts on a single page. I'm guessing there is a geo term associated with your search and I'd pull out the stops as far as creativity of the content on the page, getting local citations, as well as getting internal and external links to the page with anchor text that includes both terms.
I'd say it might be a toss up as to whether or not to use both term in the title but if you used one, then I'd go heavier on the link anchor text for the other. Examine the real differences in the words--are they exactly synonymous or are their some slight differences in their meanings? If there are differences use each of the words in the first couple of sentences that distinguish their differences--in fact, I might just make the whole page about what is the history of the two words, how are they different, when should you correctly use one vs. the other, who might be using them correctly or incorrectly, which one might apply best to your hard headed client... that kind of thing.
I'm sure it can be done but it is going to boil down to creatively building authority and relevance for the page. Good luck. I love lawyers.

US UK KW research regional variations
Hi What words phrases do you think one should research to see what US searchers would use if they want to get an artefact valued such as old jewelry to furniture to sporting memorabilia or just want to get that work of art on the wall valued that they have had in the family for years. Obviously i will be carrying out kw research (& have been) but just interested in asking some real life Americans what they would search for ? In the UK its mainly 'Valuations' orientated keywords but in the US its looking like 'Appraisals' related are used much more. Any local knowledge suggestions appreciated 🙂 All Best Dan

The best way to do keyword research in different languages
Could anyone give me a little advice about the best way to do keyword research in different languages? French and Spanish specifically (unsurprisingly). Are there any tools or systems available that will give local language keyword variants on English keywords so that I can have a look at real world searches in local languages - rather than what I take to be the best translation (if that makes any sense). Many thanks, Iain

What do you consider a good Global Exact Match for a key word?
The following article implies that 2,400 isn’t bad……Quote from second to last paragraph of #2: “The real problem comes when you choose to target a keyword like 'ladies leather handbags' which has a broad match search volume of 2,400 but an exact match search volume of only 260” http://www.seomoz.org/blog/6-keyword-research-mistakes-you-might-be-making I like to keep mine under 50% competitive. For one site which is in high competition market (as far I can see) has SEO irrelevant brand name domain, a primary key word at 51% with 2900 Global EM for page name with a secondary keyword at 44% and 590 GEM. Another site with primary domain and keyword at 50% and 1000 GEM with other keywords between 40% and 50% and GEM’s of 1300 (also a page title), 1900 (also page title), 1000 (also a page title), 2400, 5400, 14800 (niche I might work on later), 1000, 1900, 4400, 3600, 5400, 1600, 3600 (also a page title), 1300, 1000, 2900, 1300. SEO won’t be my only approach but within my competitive capability I think that’s the best I can get. So, wondering what your thoughts where on a good Global Exact Match?

Best Keyword Research Tool
Can anyone please recommend the best keyword research tools available, we specialise in the travel industry and struggle to find new keywords as the more niche ones always show no traffic searches in the google keyword tool so it is really difficult to make a judgement. We know from google analytics that some niche keywords really are useless and while they are no. 1 they generate no traffic. I hope you can help Thanks! Andy

Unusual Words - How to Check what Google Recognises
I want to check which words Google is aware of, I remember Danny Dover talking about "SeoMoz.org" and theorising that Google couldn't understand that SEO was in the URL because it didn't understand that "Moz" was a word and therefore couldn't seperate the 2 words "SEO and "Moz" out. Any ideas, I thought about using Google Instant but as it comes up with "seomoz" when i type in "seom" so am assuming that this detail is taken from a diffrent source. Justin
