Is there any negative SEO effect when using Wordpress for your Blog?

I have a site entirely done in html, no CMS used. The blog page however, is wordpress. Wondering if this will effect us negatively in terms of SEO, having the blog that is linked to our site, a wordpress site. My gut is absolutely not, but the questions was asked....what do you think?

Yes, the blog is just built with wordpress, the site is not built with wordpress. It's straight html, so....www.businessname.com/blog.....

To answer your question I am using a few assumptions. If you have a html website and a wordpress blog I am guessing that your blog is a subdomain or a wordpress.com domain. Using either of these scenarios the simple answer if yes it will affect your rankings.
Both a sub domain and a wordpress.com blog are treated as separate websites to your main website. To really take advantage of any blog activity, deep backlinks, SEO etc etc you should be trying to post your blogs to your main website i.e www.yourdomain.com/blog. All roads lead to "ROME", this gives you the best opportunity to increase your domain and social internet standing. Hope this makes sense and helps.

Based on this sentence, I am not sure if your blog is using Wordpress software to publish content on your site (e.g. www.yoursite.com/blog/) or if your blog is hosted on Wordpress.com (e.g. www.yourblog.wordpress.com). If it is hosted on Wordpress.com there are some issues because your blog is on the Wordpress.com domain instead of your domain. This means that if your blog earns any links that Wordpress.com receives credit for those links instead of your site and your efforts are diluted. If you are using the Wordpress software to run your blog on your own domain, that is a great way to go and there are a lot of SEO benefits (such super easy implementation of title tags and SEO friendly URLs).

WordPress if done the right way is as good if not better then just HTML everyone will have a option and I think you will find Wordpress is a outstanding choice with many benefits over coding when Google wants fresh content it will make your life eazyer I would make sure you have a great web host (Wordpress or not) some good picks if you are on godaddy are Firehost , Pair, bluebox.net, iweb for Wordpress only WPEngine, Zippykid, websynthesis, Pagely & PressLabs are great hope this helps,

I have three sites with wordpress blogs. if you have them set up correctly and do proper SEO they can perform great.

Using a CMS like WordPress is not a problem to organic search engine rankings as long as you maintain unique and related meta descriptions and titles to all of the pages of the blog. Below two articles will be useful for you to start with.

I run my site like that. / (magento) and /blog (wordpress) and /froum (vbulletin). You have NOTHING to worry about.

Responsive image plugins and seo / crawlability
Note : For the background of this question please read the preface below. Ive been researching responsive image options the main issue i can see with them is that they are not semantic html so bots may not index them correctly. For instance many of the responsive image plugins use data-src for an image rather than src. Does any one have any experience with this and if it impacts on SEO ? Does any one know of a client side responsive image soltion that uses a normal img tag with the image stored in the src and with the option to set an alt attribute ? **Preface : ** Ive got a site we are currently developing, the site has a large full width responsive image slider. To serve images that wont be pixilated we are making the width of the images 1800px wide (which should cover most screens, but isn't actually big enough if the site was viewed on a 27" imac) these 1800px wide images weight about 350kb - 500kb per image and our image slider has about 20 of them. As you can see this would be a problem for anyone with a connection slower than c.10 mbps. This is especially true for mobile devices that will be downloading an image 1800px wide although only require a much smaller one, this coupled with a 3g connection will make the site really slow.

Does IE9 use doucument mode IE9 Standards or Quirks???
Trying to set up the styling on a new Shopping Cart, and having trouble with Internet Explorer (IE) When I view it in IE, I click on F12 to identify the code viewer (like FireBug) and it lets me choose to view it using the browser IE9 or earlier. So far, so good... But right next to the browser selector is the "Document Mode" selector and sometimes it says "Quirks Mode" and sometimes it says "IE9 Standards" (when using IE9 browser) - and parts of the page styling goes crazy when I switch back and forth from Quirks to Standards. Help! Which does IE9 and IE8 actually use? Does it have to work for both? Is there a way to force it to one or the other? Any guidance or tips is appreciated. Thanks, Greg

Parallax websites - good for SEO?
A client of mine is redesigning their site using a vertical Parallax & upon doing some research I've stumbled across Drew Barrymore's site: http://flowerbeauty.com/ - which also uses Parallax. What I like in particular is that the site changes URLs as you scroll down. If you go direct to one of those URLs you'll notice unique meta data (albeit poorly optimised). All pages are indexed fine in Google (https://www.google.com/#bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=f8873f78dfbb8c5e&q=site:flowerbeauty.com) I'm just wondering if this is considered ok as the user experience is good and they're not doing anything manipulative, however, there's duplicate content and a potential case of cloaking at hand. I think this approach may be ok for my client for a product features page or a global office locations page since I can break up the sections nicely and split a really long page featuring a lot of content into separate URLs. Whereas Flower Beauty have done it across the whole site... i.e. one page of HTML = the whole site. What do you guys think?

Rand made the following post in 2009. In July of 2013 I question whether this is still best practice. Obviously, much has changed in our industry in four-and-a-half years! "...if you're seeking to maximize your ranking ability for a given piece of content, it's my personal belief that you should, most of the time, keep it on 1 subdomain under 1 root domain (but feel free to use subfolders as it makes sense). ‘80-90% of SEO already done for you in Wordpress’ Am I missing something?
Hi there, I’m looking for some feedback on a statement made on my Facebook Page re Wordpress and SEO. Please understand I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but I am competent and achieve satisfactory results for clients, more so since becoming a SEOmoz Pro user, I’ve just had some great results for a client using SEOmoz guidelines in ‘On Page SEO Reports’ thank you very much! A comment however made on my FB page has got my interest…. “as you (kn)no(w) google loves WP and will get listed quicker as 80 to 90% of your SEO is already done” Does Wordpress (or Joomla for that matter mentioned in the same conversation) have some SEO advantages that Google loves as the poster would have me believe, can I save time and effort working in word press from an SEO point of view? I use the age old techniques of targeting key phrases and words and distributing them accordingly. Creating internal link structures with ‘key worded anchor text’ etc before embarking on any off page SEO. Do any of you vastly experienced (in comparison to me) SEO folk have any insight into what this statement refers to? I did not gather any references to SEO advantages in Wordpress or Joomla in the Enge and Fishkin et al book The Art of SEO, or any of the other books I’ve read, to develop my knowledge on SEO for the benefit of my clients and of course my pocket. Should the primary navigation use keyword rich menu items?
There doesn't seem to be a definitive (or even authoritative) answer to this. The quandry is primary top navigation - the client wants to use 2-3 keyword length nav items, and I'm politely forcing him to use single word nav. The problem is that I have nothing to back up that assertion other than "this way looks better". Examples - Site is www.buybluewidgets.com. The client wants: About Our Blue Widgets Buy a Blue Widget Azure Widget Information Sell Your Blue Thingamajig My suggestion is: About Us Buy Learn Sell

Having your blog on an external domain, is this ok?
We have our website / ecomm cart with network solutions and they do not allow you to have a internal blog like www.islesurfboards.com/blog . So the only solution is to have the blog on a external domain www.islesurfboardsblog.com which we set up. Is this ok for seo purposes or are we gonna miss out on alot by doing this. Any help?
