Why does Moz Analytics drop my Google Analytics connection every time I login?
-
I get the following message every time I check the Moz Analytics dashboard on any of the sites I manage. It seems like a bug in the system. Does anyone know how to fix it?
"We lost connection with your Google Analytics account. Don't worry — you won't lose any data. Please reauthorize now."
-
Thank you guys for your help! I disconnected by Google Analytics accounts and reconnected them. Now, everything works as it should. Thanks again!

As a side note, we now have http://health.moz.com/ where we list trending issues like this, and in the case of the GA connection, the solution. We hope this will make it easier in the future when events like this happen.

Hey Chad,
I'm really sorry that you are running into this issue with Google Analytics. Unfortunately, the problem is that Google is serving us an invalid authorization token for the connection, so I'm afraid you will need to completely disconnect from GA and then reconnect. If you just reauthorize without fully disconnecting from the account, Google just feeds us the same authorization token, which is no longer valid. I apologize that the error message isn't more clear! We are working on updating that to explain the process more clearly in the future, but the only way for us to get a valid token would be to completely disconnect and the reconnect to your GA account.
I hope this helps. Please let us know if this still does not work for you.

Unfortunately, Moz hasn't done a very good job of proactively notifying users about this bug and its fix, Chad.
The trick is, you have to complete disconnect the GA account form your campaign, then reconnect it from scratch (as opposed to just reauthorizing it.)
There's a note in the Trending Bugs post (3rd entry down) that explains it.
http://moz.com/community/q/trending-bugs-in-moz-analyticsNote that it may take 24 hrs for the newly-connected data to start to show up again.
Hope that helps?

Interestingly, I can't get my Google Analytics to work at all. Once I'm notified that my connection has been dropped, I manually reconnect it and it shows that it has connected, but it again says that my connection has been dropped as soon as I refresh the page or navigate to a different page in the Moz dashboard. It has rendered my Google Analytics data completely useless.
Thanks for your help, Ruben!

I've seen this question pop up at least 20 times in the past 6 months, and the answer that I have always seen given is: they're working on it. And, the only solution at this time is to just manually reconnect it. I hope you get a better answer this time, but I'd think they'd make an announcement, if and when they finally get it perfected.
Best,
Ruben

How do you use Moz to research related topics?
Like most of the folks here I'm a pretty big fan of the content that comes out through Whiteboard Fridays, and I try to apply the things I learn, but one of the WBF videos that I'm following along with does not do a stellar job of detailing execution using Moz KW Explorer. https://moz.com/blog/related-topics-in-seo-whiteboard-friday Now granted, this came out in 2016, but I still feel the core principle and strategy results in a higher quality piece of content and is still relevant to discovering and understanding searcher task completion requirements, and drafting content that fulfills those requirements. Towards the end Rand sort of mentions that you'll be able to do this with KW explorer, but I'm not really seeing the functionality. The steps I followed were to enter in the keyword in kw explorer, went to keyword suggestions, and selected "based on closely related topics" and ran it, but received no suggestions - came up blank. I then selected "based on broadly related topics" and the same thing happened. I tried this out with the keyword r22, keeping it very broad to start but that didn't seem to work. So what do you all do to perform this sort of research within Moz? Or do you even feel it's relevant in today's Rank Brain driven world?

Moz Crawl only crawling the top level page (1 page)
For the past few mounts my weekly site crawl has been inconsistent. One week works fine, it crawls all of my 500 or so pages. The following week it only crawls 1 page (http://mydomain.com) and nothing else. A few weekly scan go by and the crawl is back up the the 500 or so pages.I went ahead and created several campaigns with duplicate settings and crawled the site. Most times but not all the new campaign's crawl works fine crawling all pages. But within a week or two the weekly crawl will fail again. (crawling 1 page). Currently i have four campaign's all with the same settings running weekly crawls. 2 campaign's crawled the 500 pages and two crawled only the single page. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Moz Content --- for SEO or simply user engagement?
What is the primary function of Moz Content? It looks like it is most useful for managing content as a user engagement tool. Our content strategy is centered on boosting organic placement - with user engagement as a nice but unessential side product. Besides providing general descriptive details of a site's content / authorship - how can Moz Content help with SEO?

MOZ Staff: Timeline for supporting SNI?
We have moved our blog to Amazon Web Services, and our website is soon to follow. For better or worse, AWS uses SNI, which MOZ doesn't currently support. Here are some recent forum posts about it: https://moz.com/community/q/804-server-error-crawling-https https://moz.com/community/q/804-https-ssl-error This makes MOZ much, much less useful to me. MOZ staff, you have a timeline for when you'll implement support for SNI?

Why'd Moz stop showing the list of users?
Curious to know if anyone else noticed that Moz stopped showing most of the active community users http://moz.com/community/users. It was nice to see who's who from visiting profiles and try to connect with them via email or see their websites, etc. There used to be pagination at the bottom. Why did they stop?

When Moz provides an on-page grade report card, what tells Moz which keyword to grade for?
I just started working with the on-page grader and of couse am particularly interested in fixing my pages with not so stellar grades. Can someone tell me how SEO Moz decides what keyword to grade a page for? I receive a report each week that tells me how many pages I have with A's, B's etc. But what tells Moz to grade a page for a particular keyword? Is it the first keyword listed in the meta description?

Given that I am currently using a bot sniffer...How can I identify the MOZ bot in order to whitelist it?
MOZ is currently blocked from crawling my sites because I use a bot sniffer. Does anyone know how I can properly identify the MOZ bot in order to whitelist it? MOZ is using Amazon web services and thus employs thousands of dynamic IPs to crawl.
