Impact of recent On Page Optimisation changes had negative impact !
-
Hi I recently updated some page titles, H1 tags & on page content which overall has seen search results slip down following the first site crawl by google I assume.
My question is, should I try to get back the rankings and test and change one thing at a time to see the impact right now or should i wait for a period of time for it to settle down once goggle has crawled the site a few times or will the subsequent crawls have no impact?
Thanks
Ash

HI Andriy the site is www.over50choices.co.uk the specific page is http://www.over50choices.co.uk/Health/Compare-Health-Insurance.aspx
I have just plugged in the Quake Toolbar and see the KW density remains the same for all pages!
Is this because the site is DNN CMS templated site - is there anything i can do to get the pages analysed as separate pages?
Thanks
Ash

Hi yes, I did change one or two internal anchor texts, so that could be another factor.
I guess i should have changed one thing at a time to test the impact - once it has settled down i will remove one thing at a time to test.
Thanks
Ash

Hi Dan thanks for your advice.
Yes they all have A Grades although one or two of the pages could have too many KWs in the "key" places, which as you say used to work!
I will track and play with over the next few weeks.
Thanks
Ash

It is hard to say without the exact site. Those can be short jumps or you just got overoptimization filter from Google. In addition to the questions from other users tell me please current percentage of keyword density for your targeted keywords. You can check this easily with SEO Quake Toolbar.

There might be other reasons than your on page optimisation that led to your rankings.
Firstly I agree, leave a bit more time to pass by before jumping to conclusions. Some of my clients' keywords dance up and down in serp for few days without any particular reason so give it a week or two until Google decided your page's rank.
BTW from onpage optimisation you mean META (at least that is my understanding) changes. Did you also change url structure? How about your internal anchor link text? Did you change that too or left it with the old keywords? On page is much more than just MoZs report

Hi Ash
Personally i would wait and see since G has been known to drop rankings for recently 'improved' pages just to stop people being able to correlate changes with ranking improvements.
I would give it a couple of weeks and see where you are then, if no improvement then change one thing at a time to undo possible over-optimisation.
Also keep an eye on a couple of competitors (who have similar domain authority to you) rankings too since if they are volatile over same time period then could just be general volatility
Having said that I have noted some of my clients/projects pages achieving an A grade with previous good rankings have recently dropped quite significantly and hence im testing reducing the numbers of keywords on page and using synonyms and plurals/singulars as well as the broadest of broad match combinations.
All Best
Dan

Does Google considers the cached content of a page if it's redirected to new page?
Hi all, If we redirect an old page to some new page, we know that content relevancy between source page and this new page matters at Google. I just wonder if Google is looking at the content relevancy of old page (from cache) and new page too. Thanks

Is it stil a rule that Google will only index pages up to three tiers deep? Or has this changed?
I haven't looked into this in a while, it used to be that you didn't want to bury pages beyond three clicks from the main page. What is the rule now in order to have deep pages indexed?

Home Page not ranking?
Hey guys, I'm working on a relatively new client and have noticed that all the initial rankings that we have point towards a sub page rather than the home page. Only a branded search appears to bring up the home page which seems really strange. Any ideas? Home page; www.geraldmiller.com Sub page (ranking); www.geraldmiller.com/dwi-dui-defense

Have I been Hit by a Penguin? No Warning in Webmaster / Some Pages still Rank
Hi all, I have recently signed up to MOZ as I have seen a large drop in the turnover of a site I work with as well as a slump in visitors. I know part of this slump is the transition from google product search from being free to paid and chewing through our adwords budget quicker. The other part though seems a little more tricky, I have always been under the impression from reading online that an algorithm update would see a site destroyed for most terms and a notification generated in webmaster tools, however the site still seems to still rank for some terms, others however it has fallen off the face of the earth for. As you can see in the attachment webmaster tools is showing much decreased visibility, and MOZ agrees with this. Key terms that have lost rank have done so by around 4-10 positions. The content on the site has all been hand written by myself, however some of the pages are a little "stale" so I am currently running through re-writing every product page on the site (1000 products or so) all my product pages grade a minimum B with 99% A on the Moz page grader. I am keeping my fingers crossed that fresh content should assist in getting google interested again? However my real questions is, Is this Penguin? or is this just stale content? dmDdMr5.jpg pYkzck0.jpg 9f4mgM9.jpg

Website dropping from page 1google uk
Hi all, Firstly let me stress I am not really SEO minded, I know the very basics and that is about it. I am a driving instructor in the UK and have had my website (Wordpress) on page 1 for about 3 years now round the position 3 mark but for the last few months it has been dropping and is now right at the bottom of page 1 so no doubt a few more days and it will vanish completely from page 1 of google.co.uk . I was wondering if someone could just have a quick look at the page to see if they can see anything obvious that wouldn't be seen by me! The search term is " Driving Lessons Worcester " and the page that has always show on page 1 of google is .. http://www.passlee.com/driving-lessons-worcester.html I also had another site on page 1 for about 2 years which was www.drivinglessonsworcester.com this has also vanished to page 5 over the last 3 to 4 months. What really hurts is I made a website for another local instructor using WP and with similar setup to mine and that is now showing as No.1 on page 1 of google.co.uk!! So how is it the website I did for him is doing amazing yet mine is dieing a death when they are setup the same way but obviously different content! As I said I barely know the basics , I am sure a lot of you are thinking " Just go research " which I know I should and no doubt will, but I just wanted someone to have a very quick look to see if there was anything obvious! Kind Regards Lee Francis

Title changed in local pack, unchanged in local plus?!
Google seems to have pulled the title from the homepage and put that as the title in the local pack in the SERP for my targeted keyword. The local plus page title remains unchanged. Any way to influence this back to the way it was? The local plus title looks much better in results (even though it's just the brand name (which is the same as the domain name) and not the city + industry).
