Opinions On This Homepage
-
Hi Folks,
I'm pretty new to SEO, I just updated our home page (http://alabu.com) to have some actual content (used to be just product images basically). Anyway, I'm trying to optimize for the term natural skin care products (and some variations on it), as well as goat milk soap a little (actually going to optimize a category page for goat milk soap, but since it's our flagship product I'm putting it on the homepage as well.
Any feedback, opinions, advice, criticism, etc would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Hi Hal,
I like your site! On a quick review here are a couple of things you should consider doing:
-
Your
and
headers don't contain your target keyword and they really should.
-
You don't use alt tag for images and you could. Just add 2-3 keyword targeted words to each.
-
Your logo uses the brand name as the alt tag, you should add the keyword in here as well.
-
Build quality links to your website from relevant websites.

Hello,
A couple items just by taking a fast look:
-Free shipping should be a smaller graphic in the header (as currently pushes content below the fold)
-Would probably have a slideshow highlighting each of the photos where a customer could click to find more info (Passionate about skin, natural & customer service). Just seems to wordy for home page.Good luck!

How to fix duplicate content for homepage and index.html
Hello, I know this probably gets asked quite a lot but I haven't found a recent post about this in 2018 on Moz Q&A, so I thought I would check in and see what the best route/solution for this issue might be. I'm always really worried about making any (potentially bad/wrong) changes to the site, as it's my livelihood, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Moz, SEMRush and several other SEO tools are all reporting that I have duplicate content for my homepage and index.html (same identical page). According to Moz, my homepage (without index.html) has PA 29 and index.html has PA 15. They are both showing Status 200. I read that you can either do a 301 redirect or add rel=canonical I currently have a 301 setup for my http to https page and don't have any rel=canonical added to the site/page. What is the best and safest way to get rid of duplicate content and merge the my non index and index.html homepages together these days? I read that both 301 and canonical pass on link juice but I don't know what the best route for me is given what I said above. Thank you for reading, any input is greatly appreciated!

Does redoing a homepage impact search rankings?
Hello, all! Does anyone know if redesigning a website's homepage affects search rankings? I'm considering redoing my website's homepage - including rewriting the copy, and perhaps in Leadpages - but I don't want to compromise search. I gather that SEO is a bit of a black box, but am curious to hear others' perspectives before moving ahead. Thanks in advance for sharing your time and thoughts!

Is it OK to 301 redirect 1000s of duplicate random URLs to homepag?
Hello, We found a critical error in our site internal link structure and the way Google indexes it. Website has 1000s of URLs that are basically 50% match to homepage. They all start the same example.com/category/random/random I can do a redirect match and 301 them to homepage. This way 1000s of bogus url are not indexed and no value given. Is it OK to redirect so many URLs to homepage? Platform is creating these URLs because of search query, where it adds all site content to one page. Currently this search page /category / has own canonical and all those duplicate content URLs have canonical to that /category /. To fix my plan is to a. Remove canonical from /category / that way all those duplicate URLs don't have it either. B. Redirect match all URLs that have /category / in them to homepage. (this is most important page where 50% of that content is and should be the main page). Is this plan ok?

Should homepage contain microdata?
If a homepage lists several items, changing frequently, is it advisable to add microdata and therefore tell Google as much as possible about the items there, or should microdata be added only to an item/news/video/post detail page?

It looks like there are several title tags on my homepage. This was done presumably to embed titles for pop up windows. This is causing an error report in DMOZ. Do the engines also veiw this negatively?
My homepage has a normal title tag, but when I look in the code I find the developer also added title tags for pop ups within the homepage code. Is this causing an issue with the search engines?

Large block of several thousand words on homepage of Ecommerce site - opinions?
I work for a local SEO company who are continually adding content to the home page of clients websites. While i do agree that it is a good idea to add content to the home page and to link to inner pages, the home page of several clients exceeds 6,000 or more words. Every month, an article based on a brand or category (which already has its own page which is optimised with an article) is added to the home page with links to inner pages. I have stressed that it is not a good idea to have so much content on the home page, and even more so that it shouldn't target all the same keywords. I have pointed out that many of the brand and category pages do not rank well for their keywords, whereas in most cases it is the home page which is ranking instead, which i have suggested this is because the home page is too well optimised for those keywords. What are your opinions on this? Are you for or against continually adding content (which already has its own designated page) to the home page of an Ecommerce website? I should also add that this content is within a drop down div box at the footer on some sites and just above the footer on other sites. The category and brand pages also have drop down divs with an article just below the header.
