Reviving a (very) old blog - is it worth shifting the content onto a new blog?
-
I look after a few ecommerce sites, one of them doesn't currently have a blog, we are setting up a wordpress blog now for the site. Going way back in time the site did have a blog which was on a separate Typepad domain. What I'm wondering is whether it is worth redirecting this whole blog to the new blog section of the site and copying some of the content over to the new blog as historical posts?
I don't think it will be possible to redirect each individual post to a new one so it will just be a straight redirect of the old blog domain to the new one with the same (most of anyway) content. Do you think it is worth doing this for the value of this content which is relevant but dated (many of the links are now expired)? Doing this will take some time to do so it's not 'free' content we'd be getting
We have a lot of new content planned out so we won't be short of content, just would be nice to have some historical content on there too
Thanks

Hi there
I would do a quick content audit and see what content from your old blog could be removed, consolidated, or updated. People love in-depth articles and posts so this could be a great opportunity to see what content is worth expanding on or leaving alone.
Whatever you, do make sure that you properly URL map your old blog so that old posts are pointing to their new home on the new blog - that way you don't have a bunch of old blog posts pointing directly to the main blog category.
You may also want to do a backlink audit in case some of those old blog URLs have links pointing to them and you want them to updated to the new URL structure, or removed because they are spammy.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Having content is always nice. Creating great conten takes time and efford. Asking people to make content goes better if you already have some content. So please choose some "valuable" or "evergreen" conten of the old blog and post it on your new one.
Creating 301 redirects from the old domain is a good way to rescue some of the old link value. Even if you do not see it in moz and majestic, it still could be there. It is not to much efford if you know what you are doing. So go for it.
If redirecting each post is to much work redirect all posts to your /blog/ directory. LInk value and visitors will get what they want!
go for it!

Blog Posts
I have a blog as part of my business website...when I make a blog post, should I ALWAYS include a link in that post back to another page on my website? So every blog post has a link back to the site..or should I be intermittent on backlinks? Just wondering what the best practice is to help the site's SEO...

Where to add content
Hello, In looking at GA for a client, his top 100 landing pages are all category pages with only a slight amount of articles and product pages. We haven't added content to the product pages, we just rewrote descriptions for unique content. They are about 100-200 words per product. Does that mean we should focus on adding content to category pages first? We're thinking of totaling 500 words or so (though less sometimes) of quality content to category pages. Your recommendations?

Promoting blog content
I've created a pinterest board, which kind of serves as a blog also as it tells people how they can save money on their heating bills this winter. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to promote it as a backlinking opportunity? Would it be good to also feature the content on our website? Guest blogging? Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you.

Blog Categories
I am working on redoing my blog and there are many posts that fit into two categories. Should I keep them in only one? or place them in both? For example- Category 1 - Gucci Category 2 - Shirts Should a post about "Gucci shirts" go in both places or only the "Gucci" category and the "shirts" category would then only include posts about my more minor brands. Thanks!

What is the best way to get around duplicate content when you are advertising exactly the same content on two different sites?
I am currently trying to improve exposure for an online degrees website but the content for the degree program pages is exactly the same as the company's main website. What would you suggest for getting around the duplicate content issue as a lot of the curriculum content will obviously be the same for each module, etc? Thanks

Sourcing content and images for Office Interior Design Blog
Im currently building a blog on Wordpress, and I will be blogging about Office Interior Designs. When I look at my competition they have some great blog posts about office interior designs and I have no idea about how they get: a) The ideas to blog about, how do they find out about these office interior designs b) how they get the content for them, how do they know what to write about each one, do they need permission etc, c) if i am interested in doing a blog on the same office interior design as them, how can I get information )and permission from the company that done the office interior design) on the office interior design so i can blog about it and also how do i get the images and stuff. an example is http://www.officedesignblog.com/invensys-rail-office-concept/726/ I would like to cover this aswell, as i think my future readers would like to know about this. how did they get the images, and the information about the project so they could write a blog post about it? And how would I go about doing the same thing?

Remove Scraped Content?
There is a site I work for that has content that, when you search in Google a snippet of text from, they are not the top result for. I believe what has happened is that they had written blogs and articles and added them to their site and article directories at the same time and the article directories got cached first. If we're not coming up first for our article, that means we are not believed to be the original author, correct? Should I remove all content from our site where this is happening, even though we actually did create these articles?
