For pages that already exist on my site, I can submit the URL to SEMrush and it will give me a list of keywords that the page already ranking for in the SERPs. It also gives the ranking for each keyword.
If you don't have a page for a keyword, then go out and grab a competitor's page and do the same thing.
Also, if you have a short article, do the above. Then improve the 200 word article to 2000 words, then do same thing in a couple of months. You will be surprised and the increase in rankings and breath of keywords.

There are a bunch of tools out there. Longtail Pro comes to mind. All of them share a problem, however – noise! That is, the useful sliver of their output often requires such a lengthy period of manual disinterment, you might as well do it the old fashioned way. No keyword tool I know of can be easily told what's pertinent to the context in which you wish to use it.
The best advice I can give you – assuming this is for content creation – is to use the SERPs themselves.
If you Google the short tail, you'll find some if not all of the long tail stuff in the H2s and H3s within the content you're presented with.
Hope that helps.

I'm finding it difficult to make a decision on keywords to select to target for new site?
Hi, I'm doing keyword research for a small site and followed the standard keyword process of using Ahrefs and Google's keyword planner tools to see what keywords are being searched for my service. There are keywords that have a higher avg monthly search volume but they are aren't as relevant as ones that include the word cheap or affordable for example but those ones are only 300 monthly searches per month which seems very small for the main page of the site. Any advice what I should do in this scenario? Do I choose a more relevant keyword with lower search volume or go for one with much higher avg monthly search volume which is much more competitive?

Target Search Terms Changed - does this affect traffic?
We spent the last 12 months targeting a particular search term (mortgage broker) and have been ranking well for it consistently for about 6 months now. We have decided to change the target search term to something else (insurance broker) but noticed that our traffic has started to decline since we started doing this. We are still ranking well for the initial search term, and our ranking is slowly improving for the new targeted search term in SERPs but traffic is down about 60% from January. Is it normal/expected for this to happen?

Very relevant (perhaps only) original content disappears/doing very bad on google search
Hi I know this is a general question and there multiple like it. I've read a lot over the years, but can't figure it out. 1. The site in question is https://www.glj.io which had the above problem for years. I've recently revamped it and ready to try again. 2. The specific page is this one which is a review for laptop model G3 3579 from Dell. It was posted about two weeks ago, and it's still the only in-depth review in English, it seems. However, beyond the first 1-3 days, it's been lowered in rank and finally disappeared. That happened with other articles as well, over the years. 3. When searching, for example, for "Dell G3 3579 Review", another post of mine shows up in the 1/2 places - just a general short one mentioning the "G3" (this one), instead the full in-depth review. That it make no sense. 4. Currently, the review itself doesn't show up at all, not at page 2/3 (which is bad anyway) Can anyone shed some light on the situation? or offer pro services for it? It's very frustrating, basically making all my efforts go down in the dunk.. Much appreciated!

Does it make sense to pursue long-tail keywords with low search volume
Hi Moz community, I need your insight into what would ensure better rankings. Some of the pages that I am optimizing are dedicated to niche products targeting specific verticals and the main keywords have really low average search volume (below 50). I'll give you an example (these are not the exact keywords, just an example to illustrate my dilemma): if my long-tail keyword is "student information management software" with search volume of 20, when do I stand better chances to gain search visibility: by optimizing the page for this long-tail keyword and incorporating it in the title tag, or by pursuing more generic keywords with higher search volume: "student" and "information management software"? If I am targeting short-tail keywords, will the page also rank for long-tail searches that are a combination of these keywords? In other words, which scenario gives better chances to rank higher: 1) pursuing short-tail keywords with high search volume in the title-tag 2) pursuing fewer long-tail keywords with lower search volume that are a combination of those in scenario 1? Thanks in advance for your help!

Most efficiënt way to retrieve search volume for thousands of keyword
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how I can efficiently get search volumes for large quantities of keywords. Unfortunately Keyword Planner has reduced their limit of keywords:
Keyword Research | | CB0001
"You entered too many keywords. Please limit the number of keywords to 1,000. You can also upload a file with up to 800 keywords." Weirdly, the file upload's limit is now even lower than the normal limit. A 1000 keywords a time will be a real chore when you want to retrieve search volume for 50.000 keywords. I tried SEMrush, but it does not suffice due to the fact that a lot of keywords in my language (Dutch) are not in the database. I also looked into the Adwords API, but this does not yet seem to have any implementation in Google sheets? Ideas are welcome!1 -

Google changes my title in search results randomly, any idea why?
hi all, i recently noticed google changing the title tag of one of my pages in search results for certain keywords... I've done a bit of a search and see its not uncommon, however from what i can tell they usually change the title if it is too long, or they seem to change the branding location etc... In my case they are litterally adding key words to it... Example - See Image 1 - This is my main keyword - the title displays correctly See Image 2 - Another keyword - see how google has added "irrelevant" keywords to the title Any ideas why this happens? fr0PIK7.jpg sv6zWOu.jpg

Invisible Long Tail Keywords
I've been doing some research on SEOmoz and have seen some posts relating to invisible long tail keywords. I have a couple of questions relating to this: Am I correct to understand that an invisible long tail keyword won't show any search in a tool like the Google Keyword Tool? If not, how do you define it? If an invisible long tail keyword has almost no search (or search that can be proven by an SEO researcher), how can you be confident that it will produce results?
