Moz authority. Should this be taken as just a guideline.
-
Hi Guys.
We have an opportunity to get a back link from a charity site...the site of "Friends of Richmond park'.
I've just checked it out in open site explorer and Moz grades it's domain authority as 25/100. However, looking in more detail the site has gained quite a few high authority links, both in terms of DA and PA. Many of these links are reciprocal i.e) Friends of Richmond park have links to sites which also link back to them.
So i'm wondering... should the 25/100 DA be taken as a basic guideline? Or is this quite a sophisticated measure that has taken into consideration the reciprocal links and 'downgraded' them as Google might?
Isaac.

**this didn't really answer my question about OSE. I'm curious about how sophisticated the tool is. Does it take into consideration reciprocal links for example? **
A lot of people worship the numbers out of OSE. I do not.
I don't use them for any decisions, although if I hear that a site is 25, I think that it is probably a lightweight.
I beleve that almost everyone who uses it sees lightweights ranking above heavyweights on a regular basis. In fact, one of the most common posts in Q&A is something like this.. ... "Wah! my site has a DA of 32 and a spammer with a DA of 26 is beating it. I am getting screwed by Google." These posters have high levels of consternation and distress.
So, it is a service that a lot of people are using to "bet their fortunes" but it is not accurate at what people perceive as its primary job at worst, or is widely missunderstood at best.
That's my honest opinion.

Hi there thank you for your answer, very much appreciated. This is great food for thought about establishing links going forward and creating some content off the back of it. We're going ahead and offering a discount on their purchase from us for a 'News piece' on their website.
However, I should have asked 2 different questions though, as this didn't really answer my question about OSE. I'm curious about how sophisticated the tool is. Does it take into consideration reciprocal links for example?
Many thanks.
Isaac.

I think that too much thought is often put into these situations. If the charity is a good one with an agreeable mission and money is available then support them. Head-to-toe SEO evaluation and pedigree sniffing transforms a donation into a conditional decision and a that makes the link purely manipulative. If these types of analyses move upstream then charities will start doing tricks to manipulate DA so that they are more attractive to donors who are trying to game Google.
Looking for the win-win situation..... we can be 100% confident that Google is not probing the DA of websites and using that information to calibrate the power of outlinks on charity sites. So, the course of action that is best for all is to donate the money and spend the research and decision-making time preparing to write a new article for your website. That gives you two good deeds.

Why are there less backlink domains in Moz vs. Semrush?
For our domain studyville.com, Semrush is reporting 46 linking domains, and Moz is reporting 7. Does anyone know where there is such a large discrepancy?

Redirects affect on page and domain authority
Hi - excuse me if this is stupid question but I'm rather new to this. Currently the PA for the home page is 16 and the DA 28 and I have some concerns that my efforts are being diluted. When I use OSE on www.sassandgrace.co.uk I get different link results to sassandgrace.co.uk but there is a redirect in place to sassandgrace.co.uk and cannot run a crawl report, for example, on www.sassandgrace.co.uk. The PA and DA are identical for each but the number of links different With a smallish number of links pointing to each but with a redirect in place, am I losing some of the effect or is having the redirect in place giving me all the credit for links to both addresses? Thanks

Sponsored posts against Google guidelines?
I'm a bit confused. Every blog I try to outreach on always give me a quote for a sponsored post. Isn't this against Google guidelines because you paying for a link technically even though your paying for a post? Do you guys buy sponsored posts? Should this be avoided? How do you outreach to a blog that offers sponsored posts? They can smell that you want a link from a mile away and give you a nice fat quote.

What Domain should I use? - Domain authority question
Hi all, I created a website www.bruadair.com approximately 2 months ago, the website is for a luxury villa. Prior to creating this site the villa website was www.bruadair.co.uk , this website had been live for around 4 years. Now after developing the site and creating optimised content etc, I started my link building strategy to try and increase both the page and domain authority of the site. I used MOZ's open site explorer tool to examine my site and compared it with the old domain (www.bruadair.co.uk), this is was where my question arose. The old site has a domain authority of 16/100 and the home page has a page authority of 26/100. The old domain also had 468 inbound links ( the quality of these are most likely questionable, nofollows etc ). The new site in comparison has 1/100 domain authority and 1/100 page authority with no apparent inbound links. Before I noticed this I had generated a few inbound links to the new site, but Moz had not indexed websites since I had done this therefore it probably wouldn't have shown it in the open site explorer. Basically I have cloned the new site to the old web address and am thinking of using the .co.uk version just due to its existing domain and page authority. Would it be beneficial to swap over to the old site to benefit from the domain authority?? Thanks for any help given! 🙂
