Javascript search results & Pagination for SEO
-
Hi
On this page http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches we have javascript on the paginated pages to sort the results, the URL displayed and the URL linked to are different. e.g.
The paginated pages link to for example: page2 http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches#productBeginIndex:30&orderBy:5&pageView:list&
The list is then sorted by javascript.
Then the arrows either side of pagination link to e.g. http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 - this is where the rel/prev details are - done for SEO
But when clicking on this arrow, the URL loaded is different again - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches#productBeginIndex:60&orderBy:5&pageView:list&
I did not set this up, but I am concerned that the URL http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 never actually loads, but it's linked to Google can crawl it.
Is this a problem?
I am looking to implement a view all option.
Thank you

Hi Jake
Thank you for your input.
I've looked in what might be blocked & I still have a couple of .js files blocked, they're AJAX e.g.
http://www.key.co.uk/wcsstore/dojo18/dijit/nls/loading.js
http://www.key.co.uk/wcsstore/dojo18/dojo/fx/easing.js
These aren't in the robots.txt files - do you think it's worth finding & unblocking them?
Thank you

Hi Becky,
You don't need "product listing" schema.. you just simply markup each product on the page using the product schema - https://schema.org/Product...
I don't see any glaring issues with your pagination.
I do however, see the issue with displaying the products on the page continues.. Google most recently cached this page on 9/30 - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches - and it still is only displaying a single product in the cache. You might be able to get some insight into any JS that is being blocked by looking in GSC... Using Google's mobile testing tool, it indicates there is some en-gb.js file that is being blocked, but I couldn't find it in the source.. so it must be referenced elsewhere. I'm not sure if this is the issue, but It's a decent starting point.
Best,

Hi Jake
Thanks so much for your reply, I had something in the Robots.txt file blocking css so this has been removed.
I've just checked and all products now seem to be showing.
I'll look into product schema, I had looked before but couldn't see any schema for product listing pages?
So you don't think anything is wrong with the pagination?
Thank you

Hi Becky,
Great question!
For the page - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches - Google's cache is showing they are only able to load/see a single product on the page.
The same is happening on the cached versions of your paginated pages like http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 ...
Google is able to find these paginated versions because you are properly implementing the rel=next and rel=prev in the source of the pages. I wouldn't worry too much at this point about the jscript loading creating the "anchor" urls with sorting, etc.. though you could consider using pushstate to force the correct canonical URL in the browser.
I would focus on making sure the content is indexable by Google so they can find the links to all of your product pages, etc. You might want to consider a pre-render service for those pages, or as you mentioned, having a page listing all products so they can easily be crawled. You should double check this by fetching the pages in GSC and seeing how they render.
On a side note, you might want to look into some product schema options for your content
Cheers,
Jake Bohall

Pagination & SEO
Hi In one of my other Q&A's someone mentioned I may need to look at pagination. For instance, are these pages counted as 'new' pages in Google's eyes when clicking on pagination? http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/plastic-storage-boxes http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/plastic-storage-boxes#productBeginIndex:30&orderBy:5&pageView:list& Does anyone have any advice on what I could do? It's not something I have had much experience with. Thank you Becky

Woocommerce SEO & Duplicate content?
Hi Moz fellows, I'm new to Woocommerce and couldn't find help on Google about certain SEO-related things. All my past projects were simple 5 pages websites + a blog, so I would just no-index categories, tags and archives to eliminate duplicate content errors. But with Woocommerce Product categories and tags, I've noticed that many e-Commerce websites with a high domain authority actually rank for certain keywords just by having their category/tags indexed. For example keyword 'hippie clothes' = etsy.com/category/hippie-clothes (fictional example) The problem is that if I have 100 products and 10 categories & tags on my site it creates THOUSANDS of duplicate content errors, but If I 'non index' categories and tags they will never rank well once my domain authority rises... Anyone has experience/comments about this? I use SEO by Yoast plugin. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. -Marc

SEO Experts: Where did you start?
Hi all! I'm beginning to travel down the road of becoming an SEO expert! I've attended the latest few webinars on Moz, and have started watching the White Board Fridays. However I'm wondering, for the current SEO Experts, how did you get to where you are today? I.e. What books did you read? Did you pay for classes or just learn everything from Moz? Where is a good place to get an SEO Expert Certification/Is it necessary? How long did it take you to become an expert? (Stuff like that) I suppose I'm looking to make a list for myself, organizing what I should learn first, and then create a timeline moving forward. Thanks for your help Mozzers! - Briana B.

Search box within search results question
I work for a Theater news website. We have two sister sites, theatermania.com in the US and whatsonstage.com in London. Both sites have largely the same codebase and page layouts. We've implemented markup that allows google to show a search box for our site in its results page. For some reason, the search box is showing for one site but not the other: http://screencast.com/t/CSA62NT8 We're scratching our heads. Does anyone have any ideas?

Applied 301 redirects on all pages, submitted 'change of address' to google but we still see site:coedmagazine.com fetching 130K results on google as opposed to site:coed.com fetches 40K results. Can anybody here throw some light on what might be going wrong? [ Site runs on wordpress, hosted with wordpress as well ] thank you

Alexa site title shows as "302 Found" on search result pages
If you search for the site "ixl.com" in Alexa, for some reason, it's showing the site as "302 Found" instead of showing the website name, IXL. If you drill into that, it shows the site as ixl.com, but underneath that, it says "302 Found" again. Every other site I search for seems to show the site's name properly. I have no idea where it's getting this "302 Found" from. Does anyone know how to fix this? Here's a link directly to the search results page: http://www.alexa.com/search?q=ixl.com
