Can we ignore "broken links" without redirecting to "new pages"?
-
Let's say we have reaplced www.website.com/page1 with www.website.com/page2.
Do we need to redirect page1 to page2 even page1 doesn't have any back-links?
If it's not a replacement, can we ignore a "lost page"?
Many websites loose hundreds of pages periodically. What's Google's stand on this. If a website has replaced or lost hundreds of links without reclaiming old links by redirection, will that hurts?
-
I highly recommend putting a 301 redirect in place for any links like the one you mentioned above.
Google wants the ensure that users have a great experience when in your website, and if there's even a slight chance that their visit could be interrupted by a broken link, you could be dinger. To stay safe, I recommend redirects.

Hi Patrick,
Will there be any issue if we do redirection for hundreds of pages in the process of link reclamation?
-
It is recommended you redirect page1 to page 2, don't worry about if there is any back link or not, Google already crawled the page1 and now if it turns to 404 you'll loose google rank given to that page. Let's say you go to your favorite restaurant and when you get there you found that the store is closed permanently, what you'll do you'll start looking for new restaurant, same issue with SEO here.
Hope this helps.

Hi there
I would redirect the page to it's new URL because if this page ranked for any keywords or queries, the new page can stand to gain that visibility. I would also do it from a user experience standpoint. If a customer or user bookmarked that page, then they will be able to be redirected to the correct URL. So, my two cents, go ahead and redirect, especially if it's a few pages, and also make sure your internal links / sitemap XML are updated to the new URL.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

But how come we retain the reputation at Google? Page1 is familiar for Google. Page2 is new and cannot rank in Google for weeks and months. In this case, if we redirect page1 to page2....it must help somewhere right; even without back-links. We have noticed our new page was not ranking in Google for "same keyword" for weeks, but it would've made if we redirected it.

Hi,
We do use 301 redirect to pass link juice from one page to another page. If your webpage not ranking in top 10 or 20 and there is no backlink then you can ignore.
Thanks

Does Google considers the direct traffic on the pages with rel canonical tags?
Hi community, Let's say there is a duplicate page (A) pointing to original page (B) using rel canonical tag. Pagerank will be passed from Page A to B as the content is very similar and Google honours it hopefully. I wonder how Google treats the direct traffic on the duplicate Page A. We know that direct traffic is also an important ranking factor (correct me if I'm wrong). If the direct traffic is high on the duplicate page A, then how Google considers it? Will there be any score given to original page B? Thanks

Spam Back Link Removal Problem.
I have just paid a lot of money to have spam back links removed from directories owned by the same person, the links were on pages that were set up for me without me knowing, at the end of each url is my domain name, the links have been removed on the page leaving a directory page with no other links on however the url is still there with my domain name at the end of the url and in each search box is my domain name, I have asked for the pages to be removed altogether as I did say before I paid the money I did not want my domain name on any of his directories, he has come back and said leaving my domain name in the urls is not a problem as far as Google is concerned, can anyone please advise, I can ask for a refund from PayPal, there are over 768 links on different sections of a number of directories. Thank you inadvance.

Website dropping from page 1google uk
Hi all, Firstly let me stress I am not really SEO minded, I know the very basics and that is about it. I am a driving instructor in the UK and have had my website (Wordpress) on page 1 for about 3 years now round the position 3 mark but for the last few months it has been dropping and is now right at the bottom of page 1 so no doubt a few more days and it will vanish completely from page 1 of google.co.uk . I was wondering if someone could just have a quick look at the page to see if they can see anything obvious that wouldn't be seen by me! The search term is " Driving Lessons Worcester " and the page that has always show on page 1 of google is .. http://www.passlee.com/driving-lessons-worcester.html I also had another site on page 1 for about 2 years which was www.drivinglessonsworcester.com this has also vanished to page 5 over the last 3 to 4 months. What really hurts is I made a website for another local instructor using WP and with similar setup to mine and that is now showing as No.1 on page 1 of google.co.uk!! So how is it the website I did for him is doing amazing yet mine is dieing a death when they are setup the same way but obviously different content! As I said I barely know the basics , I am sure a lot of you are thinking " Just go research " which I know I should and no doubt will, but I just wanted someone to have a very quick look to see if there was anything obvious! Kind Regards Lee Francis

Sitewide links - nofollow or delete?
Hi, I've just come across a website with 3 sitewide links. I was thinking of adding nofollow but then thought, well, is that the best option? From an SEO perspective is it better to actually delete those links? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

How can Chrome rankings vary wildly from Mozilla and IE8?
Our website (www.theideapeople.com) has generally ranked on page 4 on Google search for the phrase "charlotte web design" for the past year...regardless of which browser I used. Oh, and my browser location is always set to Charlotte, NC. I also have the Moz toolbar installed and logged-in. Today, I Googled the same keyword using Chrome and we were on page 1 in 4th position! The other browsers still showed us on page 4, as usual. Has anybody else noticed this wild variance with Chrome? Is Chrome learning that I work at The Idea People?!!
