Partner outranking main site in local
-
I've been working on local for a client, and it looks like the partner's name and one review is outranking the firm name and it's 20 reviews. The firm's GMB profile is better, but they're still buried.
Any advice?

I really like this response. I was thinking, fully with my SEO-head, but from a business POV this answer is right on the money

Hi Julie!
So sorry to hear of the trouble you're having with that. It's not an uncommon scenario. There are basically two steps to take to try to resolve this:
- Do a competitive audit between the business and the partner. Set up a spreadsheet so that you can compare the metrics of the two entities you're investigating. Look at keywords in business title, DA, PA of the GMB landing page on the website, review count, rating and sentiment, possible duplicate listings, citation accuracy/spread for each, etc. Once you have those metrics, you may be able to spot some specific reason why Google is favoring the partner over the firm. If not, move on to step 2.
2) If the client judges that the partner outranking the firm is harming a critical metric like conversions or revenue, you can decide to minimize the partner listing to try to demote it, if the client agrees. Remove photos, remove hours of operation if you can, point the listing to a low PA page on the site (typically a partner page rather than the home page, unless your partner has a strong landing page?), remove any keywords from the partner's title, etc. At the same time, try to earn a few good new links for the landing page of the firm, and showing a bit of extra love to the firm's listing can't hurt. Add new photos, maybe start scheduling some Google posts, do some Q&A. Hopefully the combination of minimizing the partner and maximizing the firm will generate the desired results.
This won't be the right solution for every scenario, but if it's deemed that the partner outranking the firm is negatively impacting the business to a degree that the partner's listing prominence needs to be sacrifice for the sake of the brand, hopefully my instructions will help!

They're positive for both. I don't think he's well known.
There may be a few more searches for the partner's name because there are other attorneys, in other states, with the same name but according to ahrefs it's not a huge number.
If a person searched for the partner, it would be nice if they saw his one box, but our main goal is to get the firm on the map.
-
Ah that's pretty interesting. Is it a positive or a negative review? Negative reviews tend to have prominence over positive ones (which is why people often engage in reputation management attempts). If both sets of reviews (partner vs firm) are positive then it could just be, they're such a big name that they disrupt the SERPs (as people search more for them than for the firm, yet both are intrinsically connected)

A Senior, named partner of the firm.

What do you mean by partner?
A business partner commercially (another company?)
A partner of your business (like a General Practitioner, a partner of the practice in a medical profession - a person?)
An affiliate partner? A stockist?
There are so many types of business partnership that I believe we need just a smidge more info here, to help properly

Right hand side Google Local profile image pulling from 3rd party site
Hello! When googling our company's name, the Google Local profile comes up on the right hand side with the reviews, address, phone number, etc. Those are all fine but the main photo being used is not the one specified in the Google My Business profile but it seems to be pulling from a 3rd party site that recently added a link and an image to our website. Why is this happening and can we specify the image that shows up? Your help will be very much appreciated!!!

Once you start fixing Local citations with correct NAP, is it normal for your rankings to plunge at first?
I strongly believe that I have received the most solid Local advice I could from these forums and have started (in just a few days) to make the needed corrections. At the same time I'm somewhat excited and optimistic that it will be a long journey but that it's a learning process. About 5 days ago, I set my website up with "City landing pages" and I started plundering through google, fixing and claiming and correcting as many citations as I could with correct NAP. The journey still continues today as I just got my Bing Local card in the mail and verified. I went to check my rankings on Google Maps, just to see if anything had changed and sure enough it had. My listing had been holding strong at page 10 (which drives me nuts) and now after 5 days of solid work its on page 18. I have to assume that because I'm stirring the dust perhaps Google is confused and maybe in a month or so things might start moving the other way? Thoughts?

Local Really?
I've asked this question before and got some strong advice ( I think ) but the results have been not so strong. I'm looking for advice on local. I have this profile: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114370561649922317296/about That I need to rank for "austin wedding photographers" and I have yet to figure out a way to get it to move on the map results. I understand these things take time, but its been a couple of months, and as far as I can tell, its still ranking on page 10 of the "local results" (meaning you search for austin wedding photographers, then click under the map listings to see Google Maps with the listings to the left.) Furthermore, all my organic competition for the most part is now on the local results and the map is ranking higher than all but one organic. Suggestions would be a huge plus. Last time some folks analyzed the google plus local page and gave some tips. Since then a few things have happened. 1. I notice most of the Google Local listings that come up on page 1 in the map have a similar page when clicking "more info." They mostly have a map as their cover photo on their listing. 2. Google has merged my Google Places and Google Plus Local account so that when you click "more info" on the listing (on page 10) it takes you too the branded Google Plus Local page. I like this, but it worries me that most of the high ranking pages don't have this. 3. I have added a Geo Sitemap to Google Webmaster tools but it doesn't show as indexed yet. I understand this can take up to 6 weeks? Does this help? It came when I bought Yoast SEO Local and generated KML files. 4. The address for Google Plus local is real address of a home, so Google doesn't show the specific address. I used to have a mailbox center as the address but was advised to fix that. I have sense changed the address on as many sites as I could (Yelp, YP, Superpages, etc.) 5. Do I need an address on the website? The client does not want her home address listed anywhere for privacy reasons. Hope this is enough information for someone with knowledge to help. The website is ranking first page (3 or 4 organically) for the terms I need for the most part but Local seems to be stronger. Thanks in advance.

How do you know if you are listed in google+ local?
OK This Google+ local and Google places merge is confusing. My first question is how do you know if your company is listed in Google+ local? I've done a search in Google Plus (logged in with another gmail account) but couldn't find my company on the results. Second question is that I am also not able to be found in maps.google.com, is this related? Thanks

Should I be submitting to Google Places AND Google + Local?
I hear there is a merging between Google Places and Google + but I still see a sign up page for Google Places is live? Could anyone tell me if I should be submitting to both Google + Local and Places please?

Old location in Google Places/Google Local
So I started at my company around six months ago. I claimed the company's Google+ page, and have been actively updating it. I also took the step of claiming the company's location in Google Places as well (yes, I know Google is shutting down Google Places in favor of Google+, but I figured it was a logical step to take anyway). Here's my dilemma: the company moved locations 2-3 years ago. That old location is still appearing in Google Places, and it also has its own Google+ page. Is there a recommended way to redirect that old location to our new office in Google Places and Google+?

[local seo] How to compete against e.g. yellowpages on Google Rank 1 - 4?
Hi Folks, How to compete against the big SEO-powered pages like Yellowpages in the SERPs? I mean, they have thousands of Rd -> Rd Links as well as super Page and Domain Authority. How has a let's say Dentist or Electrician a decent chance to compete against those? Does Google give credit to them because of the Content they have on their page? These yellowpages totally take the fun out of it for my clients. Answeres would really much appreciated. Thank you. For me it feels like Don Quijote.
