Link-building remains a crucial part of SEO, but with Google's algorithms constantly evolving, many traditional techniques are becoming less effective. I'm interested in learning about the latest link-building strategies that are expected to be successful in 2024. What approaches or tools should we focus on to ensure our efforts align with Google's current best practices and avoid potential penalties?

Very interesting. We have to consider that Google is always changing and doing improvements.
-
For 2024, focusing on high-quality, relevant backlinks is key. Consider guest posting, partnerships with brands (like Starbucks does with its seasonal menus), https://starbucksmenuprice.net/ and engaging in forums where your site’s expertise shines. Building local citations and utilizing social platforms can also help. I’ve applied this approach myself to boost my site, and it’s working well. If you run a blog, it’s a strategy worth exploring for sustainable growth!
-
In 2024, effective link-building strategies should focus on high-quality content creation, building relationships within your niche, and leveraging user-generated content. Consider guest posting on reputable sites, engaging in industry forums, and collaborating with influencers for organic link opportunities. Prioritize outreach to authoritative websites for backlinks, and utilize data-driven content that offers unique insights. Additionally, optimize for local SEO by securing links from local businesses and organizations. Always ensure that your strategies align with Google's emphasis on quality and relevance, avoiding manipulative tactics that could lead to penalties.

In 2024, link-building strategies need to be more focused on quality, relevance, and organic growth due to Google’s evolving algorithms, which emphasize user experience and authority. Here are some of the best link-building strategies for 2024:
1. Content-Driven Link Building
High-quality, original content is still a powerful magnet for earning backlinks. By producing in-depth, unique, and well-researched articles, case studies, infographics, or videos, websites naturally attract authoritative links. The key here is content that solves a problem, offers unique insights, or is interactive and highly shareable.Long-form content like ultimate guides and whitepapers can attract editorial backlinks.
Data-driven content and infographics that visualize new insights often gain attention from media outlets and bloggers.2. Digital PR for Link Acquisition
Digital PR involves creating compelling news or content that’s likely to get picked up by authoritative websites. Rather than traditional press releases, this strategy focuses on building relationships with journalists and influencers to create content or stories that naturally include links back to your site.Collaborating with journalists through platforms like HARO (Help A Reporter Out) can generate high-quality backlinks from media outlets.
Creating buzz with unique studies, insights, or events (e.g., product launches) can encourage mentions and links from popular media.3. Expert Roundups and Interviews
Featuring industry experts or collaborating with influencers can generate backlinks, as the experts are likely to share your content. By showcasing their insights or hosting interviews, you create shareable, authoritative content.Reach out to thought leaders for quotes on trending industry topics and compile them into a roundup.
Interview key influencers in your niche and encourage them to share the link to their audience.
4. Broken Link Building
This strategy involves finding broken links on authoritative sites within your niche and offering your content as a replacement. Tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush can help identify broken links. You can then reach out to the website owners and suggest your content as a suitable alternative.Use broken link checking tools to find broken external links on high-authority websites.
Offer replacement content that’s highly relevant and valuable to the audience of the target site.5. Guest Posting on High-Authority Websites
Although guest posting has evolved, it remains a viable strategy if done thoughtfully. It’s essential to prioritize quality over quantity by contributing to highly authoritative, relevant websites that have engaged audiences.Target niche-relevant blogs with a strong authority and audience engagement.
Focus on providing value and original insights in guest posts rather than purely aiming for backlinks.6. Building Links Through Thought Leadership
Establishing yourself or your brand as a thought leader can lead to organic link-building opportunities. When you are seen as an expert in your field, other websites and blogs will naturally reference and link to your content.Contribute articles to authoritative publications in your industry.
Speak at conferences or on podcasts, where you may earn backlinks from promotional materials.7. Link Reclamation
This involves reclaiming unlinked brand mentions or content references. If someone mentions your brand or uses your content without linking back, you can reach out and ask for a link.Use tools like Google Alerts or Mention to track brand or content mentions.
Politely reach out to webmasters to request a proper link attribution.8. Leverage Local SEO and Niche Directories
With Google’s focus on local search, earning backlinks from local business directories, chambers of commerce, or relevant niche directories can strengthen your authority, especially for local businesses.List your website on authoritative local and industry directories (but avoid spammy directories).
Ensure your listings are up-to-date and include relevant keywords.9. Content Repurposing for Linkable Assets
Repurpose existing high-performing content into different formats (e.g., turn blog posts into videos, podcasts, or infographics) and distribute them on platforms where backlinks are easier to acquire.Convert blog content into videos or infographics and share them on external platforms (like YouTube, Medium).
Promote shareable content (e.g., checklists, tools) that other sites would want to link back to.10. Collaboration and Partnerships
Building strategic partnerships with businesses or influencers can create natural opportunities for mutual linking. Partnering on events, webinars, or product collaborations often leads to co-promotional backlinks.Work on co-branded content with relevant businesses or influencers.
Organize joint webinars or workshops, ensuring both partners share the event through their networks, earning backlinks.11. User-Generated Content (UGC) Campaigns
Encourage your audience to create content for you, which they’ll then share on their own platforms, leading to natural backlinks.Create contests or campaigns that incentivize users to create and share content related to your brand, increasing the chances of getting organic links.
Leverage social proof and product reviews that encourage external blogs to link to your content.12. Skyscraper Technique
The Skyscraper Technique involves finding high-performing content within your niche and creating an even better version of it. You then reach out to websites linking to the original content, offering your superior version as a replacement.Analyze competitors' top content to find linkable assets you can improve.
Outreach to websites linking to older, less detailed versions, offering your improved content as a better resource.
13. Community Engagement and Forums
While not directly a backlinking strategy, engaging in relevant forums, online communities, and Q&A websites can create organic link-building opportunities. Websites like Reddit, Quora, and niche-specific communities often allow for contextual backlinks when answering relevant questions.Provide value-driven answers in forums or discussion threads with genuine contributions.
Link back to valuable content when appropriate, without coming across as spammy.Key Takeaway: In 2024, link-building success hinges on creating authoritative, valuable content and building genuine relationships within your industry. Google's focus on relevance, user experience, and content quality makes natural, editorial links far more valuable than traditional bulk link-building methods.
-
In 2024, the best link-building strategies focus on quality over quantity. Prioritize creating valuable content that attracts natural backlinks, guest posting on authoritative sites, and leveraging digital PR. For platforms like Samehadaku, obtaining backlinks from niche-relevant sites and engaging with anime communities can boost SEO.

In 2024, focus on quality content, influencer partnerships, and targeted guest posting for link-building.
-
Link building has become more challenging after recent algorithm updates, but the fundamentals remain the same. The key is to obtain links from sites within the same industry. If you're working with a new website, targeting low-authority sites with your content is a good starting point. As your website grows and gains credibility, you can begin aiming for higher-authority sites.
In my opinion, outreach is the core of link-building. Whether you're sharing your website's content, pitching a guest post, or offering to write content for pages with broken links, it all revolves around effective outreach.

As Google’s algorithms continue to evolve, 2024 will require more sophisticated and sustainable link-building strategies that align with the search engine’s focus on user experience and content quality. Here are the best strategies to consider:
-
Create High-Quality, Linkable Content: Focus on developing valuable, in-depth content that naturally attracts backlinks. This could be comprehensive guides, original research, case studies, or infographics that provide unique insights. The higher the value of the content, the more likely other websites will link to it.
-
Digital PR and Thought Leadership: Collaborating with media outlets, journalists, or influencers to create newsworthy content can lead to high-authority backlinks. Pitching unique data, trends, or expert opinions to relevant publications helps position your brand as a thought leader, increasing the chances of organic mentions and links.
-
Collaborative Content and Partnerships: Building relationships with other websites in your niche for guest blogging, joint research, or co-created content is a great way to earn backlinks. Partnering on podcasts, webinars, or interviews also opens opportunities for natural link generation.
-
Leverage HARO (Help a Reporter Out): By responding to journalists and bloggers looking for expert quotes or sources, you can get featured on high-authority websites, which usually includes a backlink to your site.
-
Local Citations and Sponsorships: If you have a local presence, list your business on high-authority local directories and engage in community events, sponsorships, or partnerships that can lead to relevant backlinks from trusted local sources.
-
Broken Link Building: Identify broken links on websites in your niche and offer your relevant content as a replacement. This helps webmasters fix broken pages while earning you a high-quality backlink.
-
Brand Mentions: Use tools like Google Alerts to track unlinked brand mentions and reach out to those websites to request a link back to your site. Since they’re already mentioning your brand, it’s often an easy win.
-
Content Repurposing: Turn your existing content into new formats—like videos, infographics, or podcasts—and promote them on various platforms. This can attract backlinks from sites that prefer linking to multimedia content.
-
Internal Linking Optimization: While external backlinks are crucial, don't overlook internal linking. Strategically placing links to important pages within your site can help distribute page authority more effectively and improve rankings.
-
Focus on E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness): Google increasingly prioritizes websites that demonstrate expertise and trustworthiness. Ensuring that your content reflects these values—by showcasing expert authors, referencing credible sources, and maintaining transparency—can indirectly boost the chances of earning organic links from other reputable sites.
By focusing on these strategies, you’ll build a sustainable, white-hat link profile that aligns with Google's evolving emphasis on user experience and authoritative content.

You should concentrate on writing "evergreen content marketing" that's so good that other businesses and bloggers will want to link to you because the work is of such top quality. Does this help?

For 2024, link-building strategies need to adapt to Google's evolving algorithms, which place a strong emphasis on quality and relevance. Here are some of the best approaches:
-
Digital PR and Data-Driven Content: Craft content that's valuable and newsworthy, like infographics or original research. This kind of data-driven material often attracts links naturally from reputable websites, especially if it offers something unique or insightful.
-
Guest Blogging: While guest posting remains an effective tactic, it's essential to target high-authority sites and provide content that genuinely adds value to their audience. This isn't about link-stuffing but about quality contributions that are relevant to your industry.
-
Reclaim Unlinked Mentions: Keep an eye on instances where your brand or website is mentioned without a backlink. Politely reaching out and asking for the link to be added can be a quick win.
-
Building Relationships: Networking with influencers, thought leaders, and other industry players through social media or collaborations can lead to organic backlinks. This strategy is more about building relationships that lead to natural mentions over time.
-
Creating Linkable Assets: Invest in producing content that others want to link to, like comprehensive guides, case studies, or valuable tools. Focus on filling content gaps in your niche to make your resources more attractive for linking.
-
Alumni and Career Networks: If you've recently hired graduates, tap into their alma maters' networks for features or alumni success stories. These often result in backlinks from educational domains, which can be incredibly valuable.
-
Outreach Campaigns: Personalized outreach to websites that would benefit from linking to your content can still be highly effective. Just ensure your emails are targeted and focused on mutually beneficial partnerships.
-
Link Roundups: Some websites regularly post content roundups. Pitch your high-quality content to these sites for an opportunity to be featured and earn a backlink.
By focusing on these approaches, you're staying aligned with Google’s increasing focus on content relevance, user intent, and quality signals—making your site more competitive in the SEO landscape of 2024.

Understanding Redirects and Canonical Tags in SEO: A Complex Case
Hi everyone, nothing serious here, i'm just playing around doing my experiments 🙂
Technical SEO | | chueneke
but if any1 of you guys understand this chaos and what was the issue here, i'd appreciate if you try to explain it to me. I had a page "Linkaufbau" on my website at https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau. My .htaccess file contains only basic SEO stuff: # removed ".html" using htaccess RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ (.*)\.html\ HTTP RewriteRule (.*)\.html$ $1 [R=301,L] # internally added .html if necessary RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.html -f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$ RewriteRule (.*) $1\.html [L] # removed "index" from directory index pages RewriteRule (.*)/index$ $1/ [R=301,L] # removed trailing "/" if not a directory RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /$ RewriteRule (.*)/ $1 [R=301,L] # Here’s the first redirect: RedirectPermanent /index / My first three questions: Why do I need this rule? Why must this rule be at the top? Why isn't this handled by mod_rewrite? Now to the interesting part: I moved the Linkaufbau page to the SEO folder: https://chriseo.de/seo/linkaufbau and set up the redirect accordingly: RedirectPermanent /linkaufbau /seo/linkaufbau.html I deleted the old /linkaufbau page. I requested indexing for /seo/linkaufbau in the Google Search Console. Once the page was indexed, I set a canonical to the old URL: <link rel="canonical" href="https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau"> Then I resubmitted the sitemap and requested indexing for /seo/linkaufbau again, even though it was already indexed. Due to the canonical tag, the page quickly disappeared. I then requested indexing for /linkaufbau and /linkaufbau.html in GSC (the old, deleted page). After two days, both URLs were back in the serps:: https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau.html this is the new page /seo/linkaufbau
b14ee095-5c03-40d5-b7fc-57d47cf66e3b-grafik.png This is the old page /linkaufbau
242d5bfd-af7c-4bed-9887-c12a29837d77-grafik.png Both URLs are now in the search results and all rankings are significantly better than before for keywords like: organic linkbuilding linkaufbau kosten linkaufbau service natürlicher linkaufbau hochwertiger linkaufbau organische backlinks linkaufbau strategie linkaufbau agentur Interestingly, both URLs (with and without .html) redirect to the new URL https://chriseo.de/seo/linkaufbau, which in turn has a canonical pointing to https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau (without .html). In the SERPs, when https://chriseo.de/linkaufbau is shown, my new, updated snippet is displayed. When /linkaufbau.html is shown, it displays the old, deleted page that had already disappeared from the index. I have now removed the canonical tag. I don't fully understand the process of what happened and why. If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful. Best regards,
Chris0 -

Unsolved Inbound Links Sudden Decline
Hi,
Link Explorer | | Jane090987
There is a question of my site that the number of linking domains has experienced a sudden decline - lost inbound links for around 100k in several days.
We are wondering the reason of this sudden decline, is it a common fluctation or is there some problems in our site? Thanks for your answers in advance!0 -
Do links from International SEO counterpart site carry weight?
Hi everyone! One of our clients has a competitor who has an international reach with their website. Their hreflang goes from Brazil, German, US, China, etc. We found that the Chinese site (.cn) sends over 900,000+ backlinks to the main US site (.com). The hreflang for the site has the .com US version of the site as the canonical. So my question is - does our competitor get any link equity from the 900,000 links they are getting from their Chinese (.cn) version of the site? My initial thought is that because they are marked up with hreflang and canonical tags, those 900,000+ links wouldn't' have any equity? Would love some thoughts/guidance on what others think.

What Makes A 'Natural Link Profile'?
I find it hard to recognize unnatural link patterns when the links to my site are so familiar. It can be hard to see the wood for the trees! How many links from one site is too many? Does it depend on the size of the site? Thanks for your advice on this.

Link Building - Post Penguin
Hi, We have an eCommerce site that has recently been hit for some unnatural linking, resulting in a warning in our Google Webmaster Tools account. We weren't doing anything particularly underhand (and indeed before Penguin there wasn't a cause for concern) but nevertheless Google has picked up and penalised us. We've instantly removed the worst offending links and requested a resubmission. If this doesn't result in positive action from Google we're planning on employing the services of an Oracle member on SEOmoz who was kind enough to give us some fantastic free advice in order to go through and remove any further links that may be seen as questionable. Moving forward however I'm a little bit overwhelmed as to exactly what we should be doing in order to create a positive, natural link portfolio. I understand the emphasis is on ‘natural’ linking but we’ve been online for 8 years and I think it’s fairly safe to say that the number of links we have now is probably representative of about our ‘lot’ when it comes to 100% natural links. It would be nice to give our portfolio a nice gentle push in the right direction. I’ve checked through SEOmoz and the most up to date link building article they have appears to be http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links - This guide however does seem to suggest some things that are potentially frowned upon now (for example, highly optimised anchor text I understand is now a no-no). Obviously, in days gone by I could look at Open Site Explorer to try to emulate my competitors but, to be honest, most of them have what I would describe as a fairly poor link profile and if I'm going to invest real time in to this I want to make sure I'm heading off in the right direction. Does anybody on here know of a really high quality post penguin link building guide, either on SEOmoz or elsewhere that I can use as some bedtime reading? Our website is eCommerce in nature so an article tailored towards online selling would be ideal. Thanks for reading! Chris

Outbound links and their pro's and con's
So I was wondering if there was a general consensis regarding the amount of outbound links you have coming from your domain to other domains and if there is a correlation between the more you have going out, the more (for want of a better word) damage you can do to your domain. EG: is a site with good domain authority better to keep the short leash on handing out links to external sites? Does this make the link juice from the site more valuable?

I want to learn from one of the best how to do real link building. I currently outsource this and just aren't sure if they're that good or not. Can you please let me know if Rand is doing any training or presentations on this in L.A or California this year? And if not him maybe someone else you can recommend who's good. Thanks much.
