Two Google My Business accounts for two companies at same address
-
I have a client (flat roofing) with two registered businesses both of which are based from the same address, upon trying to create a new GMB account for the second business, it was immediately suspended by Google. So somewhat unsurprisingly one address one business, but is there a way around this?

My pleasure, Simon! So glad I could help.

Thanks Miriam, amazing answer, yes I tend to agree. But i think yours is the definitive answer here. Thanks very much for taking the time to help.

Good morning, Simon!
Thank you so much for providing these key details. So, on the face of it, yes, Google has likely acted with suspension because the two listings share the same general category, address and phone number. They likely believe this is a single business attempting to create spam listings for its different services, which is not allowed. In other words, they think your client is one business which offers both flat and thatched roofs, and while the roofing types are quite different, the business has signaled to Google that it really may just be one entity offering a variety of roofing.
The only surefire way to resolve this would be for the company to operate out of separate staffed offices with separate phone numbers, as well as separate websites. I would not be confident that you can convince Google to reconsider the suspension without this. This is actually a very interesting case, because roof thatching IS such a specialty business. Google could well have let this slide had the phone numbers been unique, but, given that the business didn't take this approach, they are in a pickle now.
So, your path at this point, as a marketer, is to see if the business has the resources to open a second, totally distinct business. If so, then you can start over again with the citation building process for them. If not, you may be better off telling them to combine the two websites into one, representing a single business with multiple roofing styles represented by a single Google Business Profile with multiple categories and good service menus.

- yes both roof related one is flat roofing one is thatched roofs, but very similar.
- same phone number I believe
- separate websites...
- both legitimate separate registered businesses
- just a suspension, but have asked for a review.
-
Hi Simon!
Some questions:
-
Are both of the businesses that the client is running in the same business category? Are they both roofers? If not, what is the model of the second business?
-
Are they both using the same phone number, or unique phone numbers?
-
Do they have separate websites or the same website?
-
Are they legally registered as unique businesses with county/state/fed credentials?
-
Did Google provide any messaging regarding the suspension?
-
-
No Im pretty sure not, interesting though I hadn"t even noticed the GMB shortname yet...
-
Could it be related to this?

Thanks Tim thats good too know, from what I had seen so far it seemed to be assumed that Google will not allow two GMBs at the same address, when my client set up the second listing, it was instantly suspended by Google, its god to know that its possible, nearly everything Id read had said Google is set against it.

Where I work we currently have two profiles for the same address and we have not been penalised. Have you made sure the account content is totally different and also verified the listings?

Trading As Business Name
Some businesses are set us with a company name but trade under another name (or numerous other names). What's the best way to handle this when it comes to Knowledge Graph & Schema.org and what about NAP consistency? Am assuming the only way to handle this is to do something like this: Blue Widgets Ltd trading as Cars UK Or is there a better way?

How to verify Google My Business (GMB) account in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Hi folks, I know the majority of you are based in the US, so won't be experiencing the same problem as me. I have set up a Google My Business account for a company here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The only problem is that I can't verify it using the normal methods like a postcard being sent out as the UAE doesn't have a postal service, so there are no postcodes to target an address. Basically I go through the process of creating a GMB account, setting the address details and map marker, then try to verify the account by postcard (this is the only way). I wait 14+ days but still no postcard arrives for obvious reasons - no postal address! So - my question is, how do we get round this problem? I know it can be done as there are plenty of businesses out there in Dubai that are verified on Google maps and GMB. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is Google + really being quietly shut down? What does this mean for SEO?
I've recently seen & read more and more articles about Google +'s imminent shut down. How likely is that to happen and how will this affect Google Pages for Business, and overall SEO strategies? Like this article right here.

Google Reviews From Around The Web Feature Gone
Hey All My Favorite Local Community Members! I think we might start having questions come up about this, so I thought I'd do a quick post. Google has just confirmed that they have removed the 'Reviews from Around the Web' feature that has so long been a part of their local SERPs display. Mike Blumenthal confirms that this is official, here: http://localu.org/blog/google-more-reviews-links-removed-from-knowledge-panel/ Apparently, you can still see your reviews from around the web in your Google My Business dashboard, but they are gone from knowledge panels, etc. This may not be a feature greatly missed by many, as the business owner had so little control over what was displayed in this section. So ... upshot is: if you've just noticed that this feature is gone, it's official - it's gone.

NPA. Adding two new locations. What phone numbers to use?
Hi everyone, Our client wants to add two new locations. Not sure what phone number to use.
Local Listings | | Ryan_V
We have main phone 800 number, with no adders associated, and local phone numbers for locations which we do SEO for. New two locations are not for SEO purposes. Client just want them to be listed on website and on major directories for now. Understanding NPA importance:
Should we use main 800 for both locations?
Should we get new phone numbers for each one? Thanks0 -
One Location - Multiple Businesses
We have a client that has multiple businesses running out of the same address with no difference in suite number - what's the best way to work with this considering NAP? The owner runs several different service businesses and a few online businesses (all legit) out of the same large office space and we want to try to figure out how to get him listed locally with the obvious NAP issue. We can get new phone numbers, but not sure of the best way to handle the duplicate address issue. Thoughs?
