28,000 links - How to analyse sensibly

My client has a large amount of back links. Does anyone have a simple way of analysing these and making sense of such a large dataset.

Hi Neil,
A direct link to download the program mentioned previously can be found here. What the previously user likely meant in regards to your question is to extract the data to a CSV file using Open Site Explorer, and then to use the aforementioned PowerPivot (a data analysis tool for Microsoft Excel) to help sort and gather information for your data. This tool is designed to help organize large datasets, so it would be worth a try.

Sitewide links
Hi there, We operate about a dozen websites that are part of the same parent company. All these websites are in the same vertical, and link among each other in the footer section. The anchor for each link is the brand name, so we are merely doing it to show what other products the parent company has to offer. My question is: do you think this is still advisable, or it might trigger a penalty? Also, what would you choose between: Sitewide footer links from each site to the other sites. A single footer link on the homepage from each site to the other sites. A presentation page on each website, one click away from the homepage, which presents the company's other websites. Thanks.

Phantom spam links
All, Open site explorer is showing a very spammy link profile for one of my clients, however, when I click through to the actual pages I don't see the links or even the anchor text. The client has not hired anyone to do clean up on the site and is not yet aware of the links. Has anyone had similar experiences? John

Strategy When Building Links
When you build links do you keep track of every single link that you put out there? Or do you start and what to see what shows up in OSE? Some of these links take time so you would have to go back and check to see if it stuck. Â Im just trying to put together a procedure to follow. Also spread they out correctly, org, .net ,. com blogs, blog posts. etc Just curious how everyone else does it, so its easier to manage & track. Thanks !!

700,000+ Google Webmaster Messages Sent - unnatural linking Profile. What to do?
Google has confirmed they have sent out of over 700,000 messages through its google webmaster interface in February. Thats more than what they sent in all of 2011. Where does this leave us? What have we done wrong? What works going forward? Im sure many business's will be left in a very bad position over this update, people will lose their jobs. I always considered myself to be very careful with my link building as I am totally reliant on search for my business. I think something so big requires a better explanation from google. Has SEOmoz any more info on such a big update? This really needs input from the big SEO heads.

I think that we as webmasters have to ask ourselves what do we want to achieve with link building. To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0
